The question is, "How Sacred Is Your County"s Flag To You?"

LillianDulci, I said "like" our vets.

Liking something, and worshiping something... well that is two entirely different things.

To be as clear as possible: our veterans deserve our utmost respect. Our flag deserves nothing but honor and respect.

It is cowardly and disrespectful to dishonor either by making asinine assumptions about what motives someone has for honoring either.

I hope that clears things up.

@elkingo - I can`t speak for madest for why he said that, but I was responding to how you said if we don`t like our vets, we should get out. You and many other people make it seem like we have to worship the ground that vets walk on or else we`re horrible anti-American people. Vets are average people like you and me, some of them are racist, some of them are sexist, some of them are homophobic, some of them are downright horrible people. I`m not going to blindly worship people I don`t even know simply for doing their job, even though I appreciate what they`ve done for our country.

I think madest pulls the race card because he is incapable of presenting a logical argument. Typical lefty B.S.

Maybe Madest can provide some solid evidence the next time he pulls the race card like membership in the black panthers or the kkk.

@LillianDulci

That was targeted at me? I thought you were just making a random statement of bias and ignorance. Okay.

I think 5Cats summed it up best. There is simply no evidence that the vets are racists at all. Madest is making that assumption. I find it absolutely revolting that he does so, and furthermore a utter disrespect to the servicemen who defended our country.

Typically when you start calling someone a racist, it is based on something racist that they did.

BTW -- Defending and loving our country: not a basis for racism.

No one`s giving them a `free pass` on anything! Since they never did or said anything wrong, why jump all over them?

@TDKMaster: read the article or watch the video, it was flown outside of the Democrat HQ in a town.

@LillianDulci: The veterans ASKED politely for it to be taken down as it disrespects the proper American flag. No one (except the Democrat lady) called the cops. No one started fires, smashed windows or threateded bodily harm.

@paddy: "period smack" oh, how intelligent of you!

What a d|ck you are. Calling veterans who only want respect for the country they fought for ignorant racists. That is lower than low. You`re pretty much scum to make that statement. You ought to be ashamed of your self -- have you no scruples at all?

No, I likened getting irrationally upset about someone defacing a piece of a paper to getting irrationally upset about someone defacing a piece of cotton. @GoalieJerry posted the relevant `rules` regarding US Flags, it`s been discussed, did you bother to read this thread before spewing your hatred?

5Cats, Are you retarded? I mean really. You should get yourself checked out. There`s no harm no foul here. You don`t like it? Who cares? I see nothing wrong with this. I called the vets racist because they`ve proven themselves stupid and researchers have determined just recently (what I`ve known for decades) that conservative republicans are more likely to be of low IQ and racist. There is no crime here. If this were the Iranian flag and it took place in Iran? Then perhaps the makers would need to look out. But this is America Land of the (supposed to be) Free!

Well the vets that complained are retarded. Part the whole "fighting for your country" thing doesn`t have a clause about the flag. Barack Obama`s presidency was a watershed event in our country and as such is something a free people would want to celebrate. What`s wrong vets? U MAD?? I would love to see those racist veterans faces when they hear we`re gonna carve Obama`s head onto Mt. Rushmore.

Funny duckboy, I seem to remember something about slavery being prohibited at a certain number of degrees of lat.- longitude long before Lincoln and the South was terrified that most of all the new states would be Free states and not enough would be Slave thereby losing critical representation for slaver`s interests. Oh and don`t forget each of the confederate states own reasons for secession candidly put forth in each of their secession documents- beginning w/ South Carolina.

Crackr, I wouldn`t exactly say John Brown was the exact cause to the Civil War; it certainly didn`t help though.

No it was more about propaganda and lies being spread.
The south thought that the north wanted a total abolition of slavery and to have no slavery in new states at all, when in reality more people wanted a steady decline in slavery.

The north thought that their states` rights would be impeded upon by the Supreme Court, whose members were all from the south. They thought that if a slave was brought to Pennsylvania, for example, the slave should be automatically freed, but the slave owner could bring it before the Supreme Court and they would rule in favor of the slave owner, thusly bringing slavery back into the north unchallenged.

It really was caused by one man trying to negotiate with both parties causing a snowball effect. I can`t for the life of me remember his name but if I remember or find it, I`ll report back.

Am I on here all the time posting on every single page? I`m pretty sure THAT`s the definition of trolling. What I did was simply state my opinion & move on. Perhaps, you should take a page from my book.

Its ridiculous that people with the mentalities of school children should be allowed a say in anything let alone this. All you do is argue about absolutely drat all. Its just a flag, you see people from other nations waving flags with faces of footballers printed on them at every single international match and noone gives a drat. Jerry: While I respect what you said, and I view it as correct, I have to say that it`s not entirely accurate.

You will never see an ACTUAL American flag used as clothing, or drapery, or napkins, or a g-string. You will see a representation of the flag, or the colors of the flag, but never an actual flag.

What you`re talking about, and what is actually illegal, is someone physically taking a properly made flag, of the proper dimensions, and using all of it to make these things. Larry Flynt did it once. He turned an actual flag into a diaper. He spent the night in jail for it too.

In short, having a symbol that represents an American Flag on a shirt, and using an American flag as a shirt, are two different things.

Back on topic, this person (who made the Obama flag) should be tried for treason.

There is no symbol or pattern on the confederate battle flag that is racist, just as there is nothing racist with this flag,

Um, yeah, it does, to Americans.

It’s racist because when people see it they think of slavery and racism. You argue, "it is not the flag`s fault, just those who used it," and you`re right, but it is indelibly, and FOREVER, linked with racism.

It is as if you were to display a Swastika then become incredulous at those who equate it with the holocaust.

"After all," CrakrJak would say, "it is well known that the Swastika has a long history as a symbol of the Sun, representing Lord Surya."

If you fly a confederate flag with pride, you might as well wave a Nazi flag and argue "BUT HINDUS USE IT TO REPRESENT PEACE, and I mean PEACE with it!"

But you would be a dumbf*ck to wave a Nazi flag for peace in western culture, just as people are dumbf*cks to naively wave the confederate flag as a symbol of "s

Yeah, this was a mistake. Wrong, acknowledged as wrong, and the display was ceased.

Americans as a whole do not understand proper flag reverence. Next July fourth, go to Wal-Mart and see how many American flag napkins you see - the flag printed on something meant to wipe mustard from a hot dog off of an obese child.....

Here is the law - advisory (no penalty), but the rule of proper flag treatment nonetheless.

4 U.S.C. Sec. 8(d) - "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. . . ."

4 U.S.C. Sec. 89(i) " . . . It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. . . ."

4 U.S.C. Sec. 8(j) - " . . . The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. . . ."

People die for it. Remember that.

The difference between this and clothes is that everyone knows the clothes are just clothes, and they are being worn as a sign of pride. Altering the flag, and then flying it as our flag, or alongside our flag, is what makes it wrong. If the person who did this had put it on a shirt, it would be perfectly OK.
