Yep, a cartoon about pokemon poking fun at those who don`t get the basics of evolution (An aside- IRL a theory with a LOT more going for it evidence wise then creationism, but that is not relevant here, yet at least.) is totally an indication of a poor education system in real life.

(Are you kidding me?)

I think the fact that she cannot answer the question but can only manage a cliched facepalm instead is an indictment of our poo education system.

"You are being a troll knowing people will disagree with your posts because you are implying the definitions are the same,"

i never once said that the definitions were the same...the only thing i`m trying to state here is that physical growth is a small part of evolution IN MY OPINION...again...i dont understand why it is so hard to understand english...unless YOU GUYS are the ones trolling ME...

If you knew all this then your earlier posts are dishonest. You are being a troll knowing people will disagree with your posts because you are implying the definitions are the same, and then acting indignant when they voice their disagreement. Poor form.

Otto67: i KNOW they arent exactly the same...i KNOW that people dont classify growth as evolution and i KNOW that it is a stretch to do so...im just saying that I DO classify it as evolution...my god why is it so hard to understand english :|

Evolution

1. A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form. See Synonyms at development.
2.
a. The process of developing.
b. Gradual development.
3. Biology
a. Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species.
b. The historical development of a related group of organisms; phylogeny.

You are referring to the general definition (1 and 2), this post and most everyone else is talking about the scientific definition (3), they are 2 different things, don`t get mad when people try and correct you for seemingly saying they are the same.

Also the proposition that all beliefs are equal and therefore should be given equal respect is absolutely absurd.

actually on some standards adaptation to your environment is evolutionary, which can be done on the individual level by some aspects. Also the fundamentals of evolution as based mostly on the similarity between all living thing and progression, which ironically is also the fundamentals of reincarnation

For a good understanding of evolution it would be wise to look up a process called "speciation".

@Collegebound, the problem with that is, like someone else already said, individual beings do not evolve. By definition, growing is not evolution. It`s not a matter of belief. It`s science.

Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anhthing so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see as a final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God. The argument goes like this : "I refuse to prove that I exist", says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."

"But", says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn`t it? it could not have evolved by chance. it proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don`t. QED."

"Oh dear", says God, "I hadn`t thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

"Oh that was easy" says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.

Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has cause

@HolyGod (an especially funny name under the circumstances); Quite right. This is in fact what I have always said was a possibility. It is not to be proven nor dis-proven; at least not by me. I don`t NEED God to be a part of it, but I do believe. You may believe what you like; I`m not trying to convince anyone, though admittedly many Christians do list this higher among their priorities, so I can understand why you might have thought that was my goal.

Also this:
The Babel fish is small, yellow and leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy recieved not from its own carrier but from those around it, It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with. the practical upshot of this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any language.

Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anhthing so mind-bogglingly u

Of the current crop of GOP candidates for POTUS, only one belives in evolution {sort of}, which pisses off his conservative/religious base.

Ron Paul Does Not Believe
Rick Santorum Does Not Believe
Newt Gingrich Does Not Understand the Question
Mitt Romney Believes God Created Evolution

@collegebound, growing from a zygote to an adult human is not the same as evolution.

But here is my big question that no religious person has ever answered:

Why do you need a God to have been part of the process?
That is often followed up by "Because everything had to come from somewhere"
To which my follow up is: Then where did God come from?

Trillian42
If you would like to say that God created everything with the big bang and then guided the universe over billions of years to its present state and that the bible is simply the misinterpretation of God or God`s simplified explanations to primitive people that couldn`t grasp the actual facts then there really is no way to dispute that.

Trillian42: I don`t see how I`ve failed to answer your question. Evolution can also be described as growth, no? The way I see it humans are made to evolve although not as extremely as others would classify as evolution. You grow and as you grow you grow stronger as to survive in your surroundings. Like some animals who live in caves have evolved to live in caves while some that don`t have evolved to live outside of them.

I was going to respond to Trillian but almightybob1 nailed it.

Trillian: Genesis 1:21-25 is why. God creates birds and livestock and things that crawl along the ground etc all in one go as they are, without any predecessors. And yet we know those predecessor species exist in the fossil record.

For example, according to the Bible birds came into being without dinosaurs appearing or being involved in any way, which we know is not what happened.

Therefore the Biblical explanation is untrue, evolution precludes creation since the explanations are mutually exclusive, and evolution theory is testable and stands up to scrutiny whereas the creation hypothesis does neither.

I was about to say this. Also the concept of divergent evolution explains the "mankey" problem. Look at the red fox and kit fox and there`s a great example of divergent evolution.

Ironically, Pokemon are not evolving, and the top-right panel is an incorrect characterisation of evolution. The best description of what Pokemon do would be metamorphosis.

Species evolve, individual beings do not.
