I am sad. I work in a book store and I cringe, still, after these four long years, when someone tells me that they love Twilight. When I say "it`s not for me" (have to be polite, sadly) some reply with "oh, I didn`t think I would like vampires either..." To which I say "Oh, but I do like vampires" And then I have to kill them

Incidentally, if anyone wants a young adults series with vampires in it, as opposed to a children`s series with vampires in it, you might like the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. It`s readable for adults. She also does some rather good series for adults, including a novel take on weather, magic and Arabian mythology.

Everyone does. Men`s are usually much smaller than women`s, but is there a minimum size to qualify?

@Angilion,

That should confuse those twilight morons. You did put a rather nasty picture in my mind though, thanks for that.

Twilight is a teen book, and those are really easy to read. For a book so thick, I could probably finish it within a day (and I read SLOW).
Wonder if teens have to read more difficult books in school? I had to read Frankenstein and The Great Gatspy. Along with Shakespeare of course.

Well, winter IS coming April 1...and that series IS fantastic, although if there`s one thing GRRM is good at it`s killing off characters, especially ones you thought would make it to the end.

Reading is hard, why does it have to be so hard, I can`t do anything hard, make it easier. That`s still to wordy, make it less wordy and less thinky, I don`t want to think while I`m also trying to read.

Isn`t the entire plot line of "The Hills" as told by Robot Chicken.

yeah the book is a little slow but in no way comparable to twilight which is written for girls 12 and up, and women who think they are 12.

In their defense, by todays standards of writing and reading that book is REALLY dull and boring and it`s better than sleeping pills.

I thought Twilight was the most annoying, immature crap I`d ever read. I didn`t even get past the second chapter.

gah, she`s blathering about "Old English"!

Pet peeve of mine. Old English isn`t Modern English with some slight differences to contempory English. Old English didn`t even use the same bloody alphabet! If you really want to go full-on Old English, it was written with runes. Runes!

Why do so many people use the term even though they are utterly ignorant about it? It gets on my tits.

I feel better for getting that off my chest.

It`s hardly surprising that someone who likes Twilight would dislike Dracula (and vice versa). It would be a lot more surprising to find someone who likes both. Twilight is a trivial romance story for early adolescents that just happens to contain vague vampire elements because they`re fashionable nowadays. Dracula is a horror story for adults, written at a time when reading books was by and large something only for more literate people. Only a Twilight reader could think that there`s any real connection between the two.

Someone should invent an attachment for computers that every time someone does something like this they get sprayed with cold water, eventually we could train the Twilight right out of people >> lol.

@MattPrince: Thanks for the kudos, for some reason I couldn`t think of that many movies I guess. :S I saw the American remake, but at the risk of sounding hipster-esque I did prefer the original, even though I despise subtitles.

HOW is that hard to read? and "old english"? honey, "dream of the rood"is Old English, "dracula"
isn`t even Chancery Standard, it`s modern.

it completely baffles me how people can allow themselves to go through life uneducated. worse, many are HAPPY in their self-imposed ignorance. 8(

@patchgrabber : kudos for admitting fault, and double kudos for preferring original which is (i assume) the exact opposite of twilight. The remake wasnt a bad film to be fair, still unsettling and > twilight.

Never read Twilight, but I must say that Dracula is a pretty dull book (also so`s frankenstein.) For anyone that hasn`t read it, it`s told entirely in the form of journal excerpts, ship`s log, prison warden`s log, etc. It`s also very dry.

For it`s time it was a classic, but like a lot of great literature of the past, doesn`t always appeal to contemporary audiences. A hundred years ago, Dracula and Frankenstein were compelling, but in a world where concepts such as monsters made from humans has been done many times over, and often much better than the original, it`s just boring.

Only a hipster thinks the original is automatically better. That said, Twilight is garbage, and if you don`t feel guilty for liking it, you`re going to hell.

You can`t compare the two books....one was written for young teens so it concentrates on the relationship of Edward and Bella. Of course they get married and Bella falls pregnant because this is the fanstasy we tell teenagers they want...oh yeah and married people stay happy and together forever of course.

The other book written in 1897 is a scary story of folklore based on Vlad the Impailer. Comparing these is like comparing Star wars with Kubricks 2001

Twilight is not about vampires!!!

Its about a glitter covered paedo, a necrophiliac who enjoys a bit of beastiality on the side, and a talking dog.

Unfortunately for today`s generation, the classics require an attention span longer than a 30 second sound bite.

Oh my bloody hell, I weep, do they not teach literature in schools? What would they make of Dickens or Chaucer? Perhaps they should try some more challenging reads - like The Beano....

After a brief moment to recall as many vampire movies as I can and I come to the conclusion that Interview With A Vampire was probably the most recent one that I actually enjoyed.
