Of course our athletes would shake hands, it`s shocking to think otherwise. After all, this is probably the only front-on view most of them will get - the rest of the time they`ll just see arses disappearing rapidly into the distance.

They were asked not to shake hands but that`s been changed because it caused some sort of international outcry.
But really, it`s common sense, you train for 4 years, probably more, for one day of competition, you can`t even afford a sniffle. If it was me I`d be hiding in a plastic bubble for like a week before.

That is odd, I thought it said atheist instead of athlete until I started reading the article..

@Everyone hating on this article.

When I linked it originally the article said that hand hsaking was clearly discouraged. Since I linked it the spokesperson has obviously clarified himself and toned down his remarks. Making me look like a douche in the process.

@ thatjimguy: I thought I was the only one who picked up on that.

It`s quite obvious that neither the user responsible for the submission, nor the Mod that approved and posted it bothered to read the entire article.

Fancylad... that is so far beyond fu*ked up, I don`t know what to say.

I know you don`t run things anymore, but you should be ashamed. This is just...foul.

At the recent curling competitions here in Canada, outbreaks of flu felled many athletes. Many stopped hand-shakes (which is a long-held tradition) and went to fist-bumps and elbow-bumps & etc.
It`s just common sense, eh?

Did you read the article? It states pretty clearly early on that they are not banning, or even discouraging, handshakes.
