"This is the kind of crap video games they used to play"
Really? Crap huh? Obviously submitted by somebody who thought that COD:Modern Warfare 2 was the best in the series, until they saw a screenshot of Modern Warfare 3. The same kind of person who didn`t play Skyrim but still says that it "totally awesome" based on a still image of a dragon they once saw. The same kind of person who will quickly dismiss Skyrim as "garbage" when the next Elder Scrolls game comes out even shinier. The same kind of person who will never touch a wii version of a game even if the storyline is the same because, "XBOX has better graphics"...If I`m not making my point I`ll summarize. The OP is a closeminded baffoon who believes himself to be videogame elite (possibly) but (obviously) misses out on hours of great game play because they believe that if its not 1080p it`s crap.

Parents? I used to write in LOGO. I have used punched cards. I remember when the VAX was hot stuff and 1MB Winchesters were beyond the means of my school.

The fact that George Plimpton did an ad for Colecovision is much more noteworthy/crazy/random than how primitive old video games were. Look him up.

@CJ: I`ve never thought of you as "the 1%", but my new laptop set me back a pretty penny. My old laptop was about 6-7 years old and I needed updated graphics card etc. Would that I could buy fancy laptops at a moment`s notice, but I had to tighten my belt a bit after I bought it. :(

@Cajun: Not bad, a few months ago I bought an Alienware m17x with 1080p display, 16GB ram, Intel i7 2.4 GHz, 2GB AMD Radeon HD 6990M. I have a 1.5 TB HD as well, although unfortunately it`s a Raid 0...they wouldn`t let me choose a Raid 1 and SSD was half the space for twice the price and I had already used my budget on the graphics card, processor and ram. :(

osiris: I didn`t get a `PC` until 1994 and it was just a 286 - 30mhz with the ancient EISA bus. In 1997 I got a 200Mhz Pentium, In 2001 I upgraded to 800mhz, Then got a brand new AMD Athlon 64 3800+ which was burned up in a fire a few months later.

Now I`m stuck with an old P4 2Ghz, ya it sucks to be me.

Take a picture of the games out now, and compare them to what`s out in 30 years. If there`s nothing better out there at the time, you`re happy with what you`ve got.

@ CrakrJak: See? Something else we have in common. I had an Apple IIe, and spent most of my time in the new computer lab at school cracking and trading cracked games.

If you had a cracked copy of the original Castle Wolfenstein, and the text on the splash screen that said "by Silas Warner" suddenly scrolled and said "crak`d by dr. micro!!!" that was the handiwork of yours truly.

Just out of curiosity CrakrJak, did you have a copy of Microsoft Decathalon, and did you eventually break your retype key because of it?

You young`uns who are sneering best remember that if it wasn`t for us that begged for, bought, and played these games, you wouldn`t have the glorious graphics available today.

Too bad you`ll never know what it was like to see this evolve from the very beginning, and what it has become today. You expect too much out of games.

The BEGINNING of ALL of this was the best part.

You missed it.

Also, Sega. When the Sega Genesis came out it blew the doors off Nintendo at the time(just my opinion of course).

Intellivision was better, but Nintendo soon blew them away.

My parents brought one home to `test out`, they got so addicted to it that they returned it. they figured I`d never do my homework if I ever got to play it.

I got an Apple //C computer for Christmas instead, and then I proceeded to copy all the games my school buddies had onto floppy disks. I got very very good at doing it, Thus my handle Crackr Jak.

It wasn`t until college that I bought an NES and a dozen games at a yard sale, That happened after I had bought an SNES and a Gameboy beforehand.
