I at least would have helped him retrieve the bag from the water. Wouldn`t have touched her unless she approached me, then I probably would have beat the poo out of her and blamed it on self-defense because I saw what she just did to the guy and thought she was after me. lols
Almost certainly true.

The thing is, if someone had hit this woman, owing to the Bystander Effect it`s almost certainly the case that no-one would have intervened in the way you`re suggesting. We were just discussing the Kitty Genovese case in a another thread. There`s good empirical evidence that people in groups simply don`t get involved in emotive events they observe, unless those events affect them directly.

MacGuffin childish insults? So calling me a moron makes you an adult? Nope. Sorry wrong.
I call it like I see it and you come off a bit crazy at times. And I am not speaking of just this post either. You misquote facts and blather on about strange things in most of your comments, barely making sense trying to sound like you know something. How long did it take you to look up "cognitive dissonance"?

Why are you ignoring PinkRhoid and Angillion? Are they not making "adult" enough comments for you to answer them? Or are they too complicated for you to comprehend unless you look up some big words to use, oh wait, capacious lexemes!

Crazy. I am sure you have heard it before. You are one of those girls that guys warn their friends about.

Almost certainly true.

However, if he had done so then it`s much more likely that some people would have intervened, probably violently, than it was here. There is a strong tendency towards a difference in public response, despite the bystander effect. A person from a group with higher social status (in this case, women) attacking a person from a group with lower social status (in this case, men) is very often not treated the same as the other way around. If the prevailing prejudice is strong enough, it will be normal to blame the person of inferior status anyway, so much so that them being abused is routinely seen as proof of their guilt. Which feminism has succeeded in doing to men, wherever feminism has enough power.

I`m optimistic though - there`s movement towards sexual equality, despite feminism.

I`m all for giving women a little more leeway, because they`re not really built for hand to hand combat and so forth.. But sometimes people just need to be punched in the face.. This is a prime example of someone who is literally asking for a fist to the jaw so much, that gender is not an issue..

@smutleybutt: LOL! - you can always tell when you`re causing cognitive dissonance to morons, because rather than express any opinions of their own they instead revert to childish insults. What`s your going to be your next devastating intellectual counterargument? - are going to call me a "big fatty", perhaps? :)
drawing conclusions about the rights and wrongs of hitting women in general based on the behaviour of one single woman just sounds risible.
So why are you doing it? Nobody else is. This is just serving as an example that illustrates how that particular piece of sexism is an anachronism that has no place in the modern world. It made some degree of sense in the context of rigid sexed roles in the past (which were neither universal nor anywhere near as clear-cut as Victorian and feminist sexism has made them out to be, but that`s another argument). It makes no sense now.

So...what do you want? Sexual equality or such extreme superiority that women are free to abuse men at will without consequence? If the latter, do you base your rationalisastion on feminism ("women aren`t responsible for themselves and men deserve abuse anyway") or the Victorian sexism that feminism is based on ("women are childlike")?

That said it is becoming far too common where violence or mistreatment toward men is tolerated or dealt with with a slap on the wrist whereas even talk about violence toward women is taboo and results in uproar and drastic action. A woman punching a man is just as disgusting and intolerable as a man doing it to a woman. Punishment should be the same both ways not exaggerated one way and ignored the other. Women`s rights, like so many special interests groups, has completely abandoned pursuit of equality for the pursuit of special treatment and a pedestal. We haven`t even completely gotten rid of misogyny and already the scales are tipping to the side of misandry.
but doesn`t actually assault anyone
You do realize that assault can occur without physical contact? This woman demonstrated two them which is to forcefully take someones belongings against their will from their person and the second is to damage anothers property against their will such as throwing it into the water. In some places it is even legal to defend personal property by force. This is quite aside to the fact that she pushed the man into the water which is a direct physical assault. Pushing someone and punching them once (as opposed to battery) are equally damning in the eyes of the law. I don`t think an appropriate reaction to any assault is to attack them back unless it is to protect oneself from continued assault and then only until safe.

As for all women you shouldn`t take what people here or on the internet in general seriously. People say things just to be shocking.
thatjimguy: "This is what happens because society says men cant hit a woman. They do whatever they want."
^^

@Gerry1of1: This here is what I`m on about. One woman behaves badly (but doesn`t actually assault anyone) = some people conclude that it`s OK to punch *her* in the face as a response = some of those same people extend their logic to conclude that societal norms about not hitting women in general must be wrong. As a group, we uppity women will all just chuck decent men`s jackets in a pond if you don`t slap us around now and again, don`t you know?

Even before you consider that we`re talking weedy keyboard warriors here, who wouldn`t dare punch a *man* in the face in the scenario presented in this video let alone the isolated example of one woman behaving badly shown, drawing conclusions about the rights and wrongs of hitting women in general based on the behaviour of one single woman just sounds risible.

How rarely? Last year my daughter was looking out of her window in her student digs and saw a drunk randomly punch some guy. He went down, cracked his head and died. The drunk sobered up fast and was waiting quietly when the cops arrived.

She was scheduled as a witness, but the drunk pleaded guilty. One punch, one life over, one life pretty much screwed. But, hey, the odds were `tiny`.

I`d bring charges for assault and criminal damage. Then I`d look into a civil law suit.

She`s a horrible person but punching people can end up in someone being dead. Never escalate a non-life threatening situation into a life-threatening one.

MacGuffin, gender is relevant because there are differant standards of behavior for a woman and a man. Right or Wrong, good or bad, I`m not gonna get into any feminazi debate. If a man behaved like that it would be obvious he was putting himself at risk. A woman, on the other hand, can push buttons a lot further with impunity because it is not cool to strike a woman...no matter how much she deserved it.
@ MacGuffin - you`re reading too much into it.
If the caption read "Who wants to hit this troll of a man" it would be no differant. People are identified by gender... not "That person" it`s "that woman" etc.

That said, if a man did this no one would have any problem with beating the crap out of him...he asked for it.
I`d have a problem with hitting a man in any situation where he wasn`t trying to assault me. The idea of punching someone - anyone - merely because you don`t like their
behaviour
isn`t cool.

Anyway, since a few people (yourself included) also went out of your way to mention her gender in your responses, I guess you must have thought it was relevant that it was mentioned in the thread title too. Why was that?

No, I don`t want to "punch her". I`d settle for having her arrested for criminal damage, thanks, just as I would for any other moron that acted this way, whatever their gender, age, colour or religion.

It always amazes me when people still in this day and age try to dress up their prejudices by cloaking them in story designed to enrage, in a way that they hope will make the actions they propose against a group they don`t like seem acceptable.

The fact she`s a woman has nothing to do with the fact she`s acting like an arse in this situation, so why mention her gender? Unless of course you`re trying to justify the idea of assaulting women generally, and are just using this specific example of an arsehole that happens to be a woman as a lever for your agenda.

Try changing the word "woman" in the title of this post to "homosexual", "black person", "jew", "muslim" or "republican", and you`ll

I agree with Patchouly. We don`t really know what`s going on here. It`s possible that is, for example, her (ex-)boyfriend whom she just found out had cheated on her with her best friend.

No way to know from this video - and certainly something like that would justify what she did without further repercussion, in most people`s minds.

That`s the problem with modern day laws. If anyone lays a finger on her, they would be the ones in trouble. On top of that she`s a woman, and because the justice system is sexist, there would be additional fines for `assaulting` her.

But if it was me in that scenario, male or female, I would have punched that person in the face.
