Link: America, This Is Why You`re In Trouble - Do you really need to pander to the lowest common denominator like this to get your kids to do basic algebra?

agreed with diylobotomy--there`s no problem here if children are learning. each generation has cultural factors that children find interesting, and they should be used in schools to facilitate learning.

looks like saintpatty needs to lighten up.

This is more statistics than algebra and who the hell cares as long as it keeps the kids attention.

So what? Textbooks try to stay relevant. Finding a way to relate to the material is the first step in proper learning.

Liindsayy, That would make much more sense if I can read what you are saying, It is quite clear you enjoy butchering the English language, but since I said "this is how I feel", I thought I would point out that I wasn`t female.

I don`t see the problem, trying to make questions vaguely interesting and relevant to childrens lives is a good thing. It`s old fashioned people like you that hold back the education system.

@Liindsayy... wow. every time some chick goes off on a horrible, grammatically-challenged pms rant, it just makes the rest of us look bad. also, don`t you think 93428092834 is a little bit of an exaggeration?

Yea buddy, you hit the nail on the head. This is exactly why America is in trouble. I’ve enjoyed AIB for years now, though sometimes there may be an intolerant or even racist post or comment. Stupidity is easy to tolerate as long as the stupid aren’t in charge, but the genius who posted this should be told just how much of an idiot he or she is. I’ll use small words.
I’m quite surprised to see you use the term ‘lowest common denominator’ in the post: math is certainly not your thing. It’s called statistical analysis you freaking dipstick, and even though you won’t look it up, I can assure you it is way beyond your scope of understanding. What happened chief? Did a text book fall out of your gunny sack on the way to a book burning and happen to open to this page? Lucky you!
I did a quick Wiki scan and found that besides Beyonce’ being a totally hot statistics example, she also has 16 Grammy awards, charities pumping out hun

When Jethro Tull wins a Grammy for heavy metal, winning a Grammy fails to be an accomplishment.

This is called pandering to the lowest common denominator? The poster is beyond ignorant, obviously. This is called using a realistic example, that everyone can understand, to illustrate a statistical concept.

wow...Glad I quit caring about my very very important education after grade 8. Even then I realized how pointless it was. Can`t say I haven`t led a sweet life so far without my education :) Ignorance..no. Music..yes. I`ll leave math and that crappy music to the smart/dumb folk
