didn`t read it yet, but the thing that bothers me the most about the US government budget is if you don`t spend it in the course of the year, you can`t ask for as much, and usually more, next year. this results in lost of frivolous spending near the end of the year.

thats why roads that didn`t need any work get repaved with blacktop.

doesn`t really give much info. For example, it says they are conducting research into video games such as WoW, but doesn`t state why. It might be for a perfectly valid and respectable cause. Maybe a significant increase in the amount of people admitted to psychiatric wards due to video game usage for example (completely hypothetical).

Yeah, some of the stuff is pointless, but a lot of it is just taken out of context.

"#1 The U.S. government is spending $750,000 on a new soccer field for detainees held at Guantanamo Bay" Misleading info.
It`s not for the detainees, it`s for the marines. GitMo is the worst posting in the whole Corps. You`re in the middle of Cuba and can`t leave the base EVER. No night on the town, no dates with local chicks, no nothing except whatever entertainments the Corps puts there for you.

If they have to twist a true thing to make you thing something totally incorrect, then I doubt the reliability of the other information.

They should just give the marines in Guantanamo a few xboxs i think they could cut out around 749,000 from there budget.

and to think that some of that money could be spent on re-training medical transcriptionists (like me) who are out of work by government mandate to investigate Medicare/Medicaid fraud.

Many of the items listed by them are perfectly valid and important scientific studies or practices which are taken completely our of context. For example, the farmers NOT using their fields is likely due to crop rotation. You`re not supposed to farm the same stretch of land forever because it depletes the nutrients from the soil, but farmers still need a source of income on their off years. d:

Also, Juggalette, honey, FOX news is not a valid source. They`re about as known for fact-checking as cats are for flight. Come back with something valid, or don`t come back at all.

Finally! Hey, it`s just a list @Osiris, I didn`t make it. How is it `out of context` if there`s links for you to see for yourself?

$16 million so foreign students can get degrees in US schools - what context makes that OK? (for example)

I don`t usually comment on posts. I mostly just pass on by, thinking to myself, "This is stupid". However, this is just too much. This is honestly the worst "article" I have ever seen in my life.

I go to UCI, they`re trying to create a video game design major. I don`t see what`s so corrupt about that, the university is just trying to expand its art department. Go F**k your self Mr conservative.

ok there is waste, but some of these lists go too far. the shipping charges for washers is kind of not honest. a company was defrauding the government for years and got busted. From the original story:

Corley, 46, was fined $750,000. She faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years on each count and will be sentenced soon. Stroot said the Pentagon hopes to recoup most of the money by auctioning homes, beach property, jewelry and high- end automobiles

Some are ridiculous, yeah, but some are way out of context. Drug research is a very important field, and taking a single test out of context doesn`t change that.

Reading on, this worse than expected. It ridicules attempts to help ease the effects of such diseases as ADHD, it generalizes massive and important efforts by taking trivial samples out of context, etc, etc. Yeah, most of it can be cut and is ludicrous, but a lot of this stuff is actually pretty important if taken in-context (and I don`t mean a few out-of-context instances involving scientists that probably lied about the required money).

`The Department of Health and Human Services plans to spend $500 million on a program that will, among other things, seek to solve the problem of 5-year-old children that “can’t sit still” in a kindergarten classroom.`

Just reading this one (And being a education student/ teacher in training) makes me thing a lot of this is out of context. That whole sitting still thing is for kids with genuine problems, anxiety issues, etc, that unless sorted at that age become harder to identify and fix as they age and will impact on their schooling (and future job prospects as a result of that).

`The U.S. Department of Agriculture once gave researchers at the University of New Hampshire $700,000 to study methane gas emissions from dairy cows.`

I`m also pretty sure this was a study on renewable fuel alternatives to gas. That would have been a worthy of funding study.

If that`s two I picked up skimming over, I`m sure most are relevant.

That`s not to say governments don`t spend money on absolute stupid things (TSA scanners anyone? Where the money actually went, to someone associated with someone else high up in that decision, for equipment that is mostly untested but has evidence that it could contribute to cancer in frequent fliers? And can be bypassed, as we saw recently here, though I`m sure that could be remedied)

No ones debating government blows money on poo, but this list is very bias and out of context.

"$16 million so foreign students can get degrees in US schools - what context makes that OK? (for example)"

I believe it may have something to do with you guys having a doctor/nurse/qualified specialist shortage in general. Oh course they should be funding universities actually in the country. However some/most times it just doesn`t work like that because many places only take a certain quota, and only X amount will finish school and get the grades, then actually go, stick with it and graduate each year, when you need Y (MUCH more then X in this case) to do so in order to sustain/increase your number of specialists relevant to the population.

If you can`t get the numbers because people simply don`t go, etc, you have to outsource in order to keep enough trained people in that area. Offer people, say, an American scholarship, promise of a job and a greencard? They will graduate then move over. Shortage solved (ethics aside)

After the republicans spent 12 trillion dollars on 2 wars based on lies the republican president G.W.Bush told, I stopped caring about anything the republicans say or do.They just lie, lie, lie.
