Why You So Racist, ESPN? [Pic]

Submitted by: eugenius 5 years ago Sports

ESPN takes the perfect opportunity to show their racist tendencies with Jeremy Lin last night. Hope someone gets fired.

@auburnjunky:
It`s not.The fact of the matter is there`s a lot of uneducated people that have been "educated" by PC.
It`s the same as people who freak when the word "queer" is used in the correct context or people claiming that "black" Friday is racist.
I`ve actually had someone tell me that Spanish people are racist because "negro" means black in that language.
It`s unfortunate that in todays society fools like this are actually paid attention to never mind catered to.

Yeah, I saw that. Still not racist.

Chick is a racial term for Chinese. Lin is Taiwanese.

I say again, how is this racist?

@kingpong: are you missing my point? do you refer to yourself as european-american? does ANYONE refer to you as european-american to be politically correct?

as you pointed out, you traced ancestors back to virginia, a lot of blacks would do the same, you have the same heritage as them for the past 3 generations, thus they are as american as you.

jeremy lin is a first generation american in his family, he is not taiwanese american because he only has american citizenship.

The phrase "a chink in the armor" or variations on it have been around for hundreds of years. The phrase still means the same thing, especially in the context it was written, a weakness in an otherwise sound object. People need to chill out and stop trying to turn everything into an issue.

@darkmagici4n, believe it or not most black people are primarily African as far as ethnicity goes, and the idea that most black people in America could effectively trace their heritage is ridiculous because of that whole slavery thing that brought their ancestors here.

I`m white and can only trace my ancestry back 3 generations to Virginia, but I`m positive that most of my recent ancestors are from Europe. It`s a continent, it has a large amount of people with similar traits. I`d say it`s a pretty fair assumption that most black people are African in their heritage.

@darkmagic14n:

Taiwanese-Americans [wikipedia">

Taiwan does allow dual-citizenship. China does not. Taiwan is recognized by many nations as being separate from China, however China disagrees.

So technically a dual-citizen Taiwanese-American is actually a triple-citizen Chinese Republic-Taiwanese-American.

sorry, can`t happen. China doesn`t allow dual citizenship. while you may be Taiwanese descendant, you are either American or Chinese/Taiwanese

you`re being as bad as black people who claim they are african when they can`t even trace their roots to a specific african nation

I`m going to give all involved the benefit of the doubt and say it wasn`t deliberate or malicious, but an oversight.

Foolsprussia:
Of course it`s about being PC.
I`m not denying that it can be used as a racial slur, but the fact is the word has been around about 500 yrs. before anyone used it as such.
Take the word " Queer " for example. which means strange and unusual. If I see a monkey riding a horse and I say "that`s kind of queer isn`t it?", I don`t expect someone with a halfway decent education to accuse me of calling the monkey a homosexual.Granted, the fact that Jeremy is of Asian descent makes the reporters use of the word questionable about his intentions, nevertheless it`s a legitimate word that was used in the correct context.
Was Tolkien a racist by stating Bilbo had found a chink in Smaugs armor?
If the reporter had stated "The chink got through the armor" that would be racist and a whole story altogether.But as it stands this is a case of looking for racism where there is none.

"monsterzero: But this isn`t about being PC. That slur doesn`t exist on some blurred line. It`s offensive and it`s hard to believe that a writer could type that and get it past an editor without anyone noticing. Also, it`s immature."

Yeah well considering I think if this was actually real you would have heard about it long before it was on IAB.

@FoolsPrussia:
Yes I do.
I don`t live in the fantasy world of PC where I`m afraid to use a legitimate word because an uneducated fool might think it`s offensive.
