The problem with making ALL drugs legal is that some drugs are dangerous to make. I don`t mean growing pot. I mean making Meth. Meth labs blow up, taking out not only the drug dealers and users, but people who are unlucky enough to be around them. Even if you made Meth legal, you`d still have these safety issues. So, ALL drugs can`t be legalized. But then, where do you draw the line? What becomes legal and what doesn`t?

Are you on meth right now? Because any idiot can realize that if drugs were all legal, people wouldn`t need to be making it in their basements anymore and exploding themselves.

People used to die making booze in the prohibition era too, tanks would explode and poo. Just like with drug labs today. How many people die from making booze today? That`s right nobody, because companies with safety standards became allowed to make it.

    Think before you talk.

I kind of agree with the notion that drugs should be legal. However it is hypocritical that I can get a class A drug (in the UK) for pain, yet to possess it in any other way other than prescription is really quite illegal.

So the reason they should legalized drugs is because they will do it anyway. OK. . . then make murder legal, make rape legal, or pedophilia legal. They are going to do it anyway.

YEAHHHHHH... Except drugs are something you do to yourself, what you listed are all things you force on others. And the things about drugs that hurt others are almost all a result of them being illegal... Oops, you`re an idiot.

What`s with all the small minded people commenting on this post? Think BEFORE typing, people.

The only reason that drugs are illegal. And I mean the only reason is penitentiaries are big businesses for states. It would be very easy to move that federal money to drug treatment centers. Financial problem solved. Plus the states would get millions of dollars in taxes from the drug purchases.

I`m pretty sure the people who make the meth would end up having much better equipment and a more safe, reliable place to make it if it became legal. Those stories where people blew things up most likely happened because it was being made by someone who didn`t have the right tools and experience to do so.

I am fine with drugs being legal, (Didn`t watch this) But drugs that specifically make you dangerous to others, or drugs that are dangerous to manufacture...shouldn`t be around. Anything else...we should have control of our own bodies.

Hoofer "drugs that specifically make you dangerous to others, or drugs that are dangerous to manufacture...shouldn`t be around."
Drugs like alcohol? Makes you very dangerous when driving or if you get angry and beat your wife up. Also, alcohol stills can blow up so . . .dangerous to make.

    Legalize drugs now...all of them.
Freedom is freedom to make good and bad choices. If you hurt anyone because of your choice to use then it should be UBBER harsh penalties, otherwise kill youself with them, I don`t care.

2:45 The role of the government is to protect the drug cartels. 100% ON THE SPOT!
6:10: Prohibiting drugs reduces use: An absolute falsehood! During booze prohibition drinking acutally INCREASED, especially amoung women. Why? Because it was forbidden! History people, lern from it or repeat it!

Watch this. It is an eloquent case made by a respected man.

I do not use nor deal drugs, but I am convinced that the argument for legalisation is persuasive and imperative.

The USA effectively imposes its laws on other states and the USA is arguably a great sufferer from drug prohibition. Therefore the USA must make the first move.

I can`t believe you are between 40-49 years old. Anyway:
It is one of the reason, the other is minimizing cost on society, use go down (as shown in Portugal, Spain and Netherlands to name a few), organized crime fall, people don`t have to go to prisons for bogus reasons, alleviate the prison/legal systems, free up police resources, personal freedom,
Murder and rape harm other people, and is a separate category of discussion. You are comparing apples to oranges.
Lastly, pedophilia is not illegal, it is simply a sexual orientation (but classified as a mental diagnosis), but molestation or sexual abuse is.

I don`t know if drug use would go up or down if they were legalized, or if it would change accidents or health problems related to drugs.

I do believe that there are a number of related problems that would be solved. A huge reduction in government funding associated with the "war on drugs", issues with criminal activity in Mexico, prison overcrowding, etc.

This is one of those cases where the good to the many vastly outweights the potential harm to the few.

I agree completely, but that`s just the thing. The wasted money is going into certain people`s pockets, friends of friends and such. So the odds of them giving up that income is slim to none. It wastes the tax payers money, so they don`t give two poos about it.

I do not agree with his views on drugs, economy or ideas of government. I base this on my home region, Scandinavia, who is doing more than fine with all the rules and regulations "imposed" on us by social democracy for close to a century now.

I find the view "all government is evil" (because that`s what this post is really all about) overly cynical and somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I will not be drawn into an argument about it.

    In theory, drugs are illegal.
    In practice, drugs ARE legal.
Big drug cartels pay police and politicians, and get to do their thing free of police related problems.
Big pharmaceutical companies pay lobbyists, and politicians, and get to do their thing free of regulations.

Why do you think weed is going "medical" instead of going legal? because if it goes medical, then it can still be controlled by big cartels, just by big pharmaceutical cartels instead of drug cartels.
Theres a drug monopoly, and from an economic point of view, the only people it makes sense for to legalize drugs are the citizens and consumers. For them, it means cheaper drugs and less taxes spent to fight drugs.
But why would elected officials want to make it lega? They get paid by cartels when its illegal, they get paid by pharmaceutical companies when its medical, the only time they stop getting paid is if it goes legal.

BUT people need to know that this is the economist that believes corporations should NOT pay any taxes at all.

Noam Chomsky has a few great points on this mans influence on modern civilization. "The Shock Doctrine" by N. Klein is a good read too.

@kummi90, don`t forget lobbyists working for the privatised institutions that profit greatly.

Lobbyists, political contributions, the media, and voting groups have made a mockery of government by the people, for the people and are a bid reason for the wealth gap and standard of living gap in the USA.
