Not necessarily. Marilyn Monroe was a size 12, and I doubt that there is a man alive that doesn`t think that she was the be all end all in sexy.

Lets face it between Marilyn and Claudia, Marilyn wins hands down for most of the men out there.

Slmmhmmr161, There there, little one.. shhh now.. you are a young man who obviously has no clue that a feminist can love men (I know I do) and showing women an ad that supposedly is supposed to portray "all shapes" and then shows

    1. Tiny

    2. Slightly less tiny

    3. Very, very mildly curvy

Is amazingly insulting to the 85% or so of us who fall nowhere near that range, "hot" or not, they need to either actually portray size differences or get a new ad campaign.

@maggierose78 Marilyn`s measuremens were 36-23-37. (waist measured as low as 22") by today`s dress sizing she would have been a size 6-8
    Marilyn Monroe

Culturally, we`ve got to stop embracing unrealistic ideals and understand that "real women" are not "curvy:...they come in all shapes and sizes. tall, short, skinny, curvy, narrow, wide.

But the vast majority of us are too fat to be healthy. Regardless of how big your boobs or ass is, if you`re overweight you`re overweight.

    OVERTHINKING CAPS: ON!

It`s ass sizes, not pants size, and those three girls have CLEARLY different sized asses. Levi jeans are pooty anyway, so no worries here.

PS if you all stopped comparing yourselves to models, who are purposely sought after for being tall gangly coat hangers, you could be more active in comparing your weight vs. your height, which is what actually matters. 180 at 6` is a hell of a lot different than 180 at 5`2.

@leesah, Minor correction, high-fasion and in particular runway models

Back to the original ad. These are 3 women of comparable height and weight with very different shaped bodies needing very differently fitted jeans. It`s a poorly worded ad, but this system of fitting jeans to proportions rather than a ubiquitious "size" isn`t a bad idea.

My wife has trouble finding skinny jeans that fit her well because she`s very tall, long-waisted, long legged and slender...but has a lot of muscle in her calves and fairly flat bottom. Normal sizes don`t fit her well.

To the people who say "just shape up"...

I have, until the last four years, been overweight all my life, from age five on. I was over 300 lbs, lost almost all of it and have not gained it back.

Walk a tough damn mile in my shoes, and the women out there who struggle all the time, before you glibly tell us to "shape up".

Really? And who in their right mind wants to please a snide critic? The sort of snotty jerks I`ve been surrounded by all my life were not what inspired me. Feeling better about myself FIRST is what did the trick, and it actually meant getting rid of some people near and dear to me to do it, because they would not change their thoughts that I was inferior to them.

Stop doing the "superior dance" and get over it. We`re in a society that makes it very, very difficult to loose weight and keep it off. Like I say, do the walk, then talk the talk to me, or you have nothing to say that does not sound like arroga

"We`re in a society that makes it very, very difficult to loose weight and keep it off."

Yes, it`s society`s fault that it took you forty years to get your life in order and start eating properly and exercising regularly, forget personal responsibility, society as a whole was holding you down, THE MAN wanted you to be overweight, you kept yourself fat and unhealthy to spite those "jerks" that surrounded you, that sure showed them! That little e-fit was the biggest pile of arrogant crap I`ve read on this site in years.

"do the walk, then talk the talk"? So I can only have an opinion about the importance of being healthy if I get really fat first and then take it off? That is retarded.

I don`t care if you want to be fat or if anyone wants to be fat. I just don`t like a fat person telling me that all women come in all sizes and all sizes are beautiful. I`m fit and healthy and I`m attracted to fit and healthy. That doesn`t make me an non-nice individual or a misogynist. It isn`t insulting to you and the rest of the women that fall outside of that range either. Beauty is the subjection of the beholder, not the beholden.

PS, congratulations on changing your life for the better.

@leesah: While personal responsibility certainly plays a part, many people simply can`t help it. It`s especially hard on the poor, as cheap food that keeps for a long time is loaded with tons of extra salts and sugars to improve the taste. "Eating right" is simply beyond a lot of people`s budgets, as fresh products cost more, both at the register and in terms of increased travel costs due to multiple trips to the grocery store.

It`s very easy for those who have never struggled to be dismissive of the challenges other people face in life. Other people aren`t just "you" who happen to live in a different house. Every circumstance in their life is likely different, including budget and natural energy levels and activity tolerance.

Perhaps you should examine your own arrogance before remarking on what you perceive as arrogance from others.

Maybe one source of the myth is the discrepency between USA dress sizes and dress sizes in other parts of the world. For example, in the UK size 12 would probably have been the best off the shelf fit for her. Although with those measurements she`d really need bespoke clothing to get a good fit - with any off the shelf stuff that fitted her bust and hips, there would he handfuls of space round her waist.

Dress sizes are rubbish anyway. They`re not truly standardised and don`t really mean very much. I`ve known women who, according to the labels, changed 4 dress sizes while walking a hundred yards from one shop to another. We should switch to actual measurements in standard units.

    Bull schitt.

Growing up in the 70s we had fewer regulations about food content. We had McDonalds and pizza, Kraft mac & cheeses and Spagetti-Os. We had Fruit loops and Captain Crunch cereal, but we were still not as fat as people are today. Americans eat too much. That simple.

Yes, really nutritious, all natural foods are expensive. I am poor but I`m still thin. I gained some weight once but I cut back on my portions and lost it. It`s about our choices, and no one is to blame but ourselves.

@Gerry1of1, Have to side with Gerry on this. I come from a family of obese people. I`m obese myself, but I have made the decision to change because I`m tired of the effect it has on me. Still have a long way to go and it`s anything but easy...but it`s not society or genetics fault. I`ve just lived a life where I eat too damn much and don`t do enough physical activity to offset it. I am, very literally, addicted to eating and like all addictions it`s a life-long struggle to overcome.

Cutting portions is like 90% of it. What we eat and what we do is important for overall health, but most of us are fat because we just eat too damn much. There`s no excuse to be fat because of poverty.

Thanks Ruffiana. My other half is also large, the doctors used the "O" word {obese} and he freaked! haha

It`s a bitch cutting back on portions. We get into habbits and it`s made him cranky but he isn`t doing it all at once. He made cut - got used to that - made another cut in protions and food types - got used to that. And it`s having effect. There`s no miracle diet gonna help, it`s learning new habbits.

He still eats twice what I do, but he`s getting there. And I think he`ll be able to keep it off because of the way he`s adjusted life instead of dieting.

But I sympathise with dieters.... it`s a bitch!

i am fat, unapologetically so. there is no one to blame for my size but me. however i am happy with what i see in the mirror, which is something i couldn`t say 3 years ago. (this isn`t because i`m fat but because i`m happy.)

i am however disgusted with clothing companies. i`ve been 5`9 since i was 12 years old (i`m 55 now) and have the accompanying long arms and long torso. finding anything to fit well is very difficult. seeing the tunnel vision of clothing companies is, after all this time, not too surprising. but its still insulting.

You missed the part where I said "why should I please a snide critic"? I had to forget about nasty, uncaring, insincere people like you before I lost weight. It`s hard to do since you all are so obnoxious.

You`re exactly the kind of person who:

    1. Gets off on making overweight people feel like crap. It always makes you feel better about yourselves.

    2. Panics and offers them every fattening thing they can think of when we actually DO start to look good and your boyfriend notices us more than you.

You have no interest in my health and well being. You are just a put-down machine, and it makes me wonder what YOU are insecure about.

You got it kinda wrong. I said that you have to walk the walk before you talk the talk about knowing how difficult it is to loose weight, NOT having an opinion on health.

And yes, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. There is a sterotype out there of the "lonely fat girl eating ice cream alone at home because no one will date her".

When I was bigger, I went on BBW sites and never went a weekend alone. I actually had to stop being on that site when I showed up and guys would say "but... you`re almost not fat... I don`t think that will work for me"

`...revolutionary fit system focusing on a woman’s shape and proportions, not her size.`
The whole point of this ad is that the women shown ARE the same dress size just differently proportioned and the jeans are still well fitting. It`s just been worded horribly.
Ultimately, if you are happy and healthy, it just doesn`t matter what number is on the tag. Live and let live.

Wow thub, someone sounds pretty cranky there. From the tone of your posts it sounds like you`ve inherited the same superiority complex that those people who made you feel so bad had. That makes you as bad as they are, so be careful.

We are not in a society where it`s hard to stay thin. We are in a society where you`re going to be unhealthy if you`re misinformed and lazy, or have an eating addiction. When it comes down to it, if you want to lose weight you`ve got to research and put it into action.

IT`S A MYTH that poor people can not afford good food. Sadly most are uninformed, and eat poorly because of this. Buy some dried brown rice, dried beans, and hit up a few farmers` markets and tell me that you still can`t find healthy and cheap food.

No one should be discriminated against. I even think thick girls are pretty attractive. But obesity should never be considered a norm in society, as it`s a condition that kills and needs to be eradicated.
