A big misunderstanding? This may not be a popular comment, but this kid will never be a productive person--I say give him as much punishment as the law will allow.

Anyone who says that the punishment is extreme should be aware that the powder cheese they use can be deadly in the wrong hands.

They say Osama acquired 300 tons of the stuff, from the Russians and was planning dirty bomb attacks on the Island Nation of Papua New Guinea.

News report about a kid getting in a fight with assistant principal? Show a smart phone to the audience while explaining that the video was taken with a smart phone.

Why does stuff like that happen in every news report? So dumb xD

The kid obviously overreacted, but I have a problem with the principal grabbing him by the arm. Most public schools have a policy against teachers and staff manhandling students.

I`m pretty disgusted by those saying he should be taken out of school and thrown in jail. Simply locking a child up for outburst like this does nothing to correct the behavior. It usually makes them worse.

Teacher asks him to go with him, and he refuses to move, what do you do? Call the campus police to grab him for you or what (assuming there is campus police at this high school, mine had one but I don`t think every high school does)?

Dead_mind, you seem like you dont get out much... people snap ALL THE TIME (and no, not just in the US :P)

HalfPintRoo and LillianDulci, in Wisconsin teachers are NOT allowed to use physical force on students in any way, under any circumstances. There are situations where they can get away with it, but this was not one where the assistant principal should. The kid DID overreact though. Deserves to get knocked on his ass

faaaaq, Are you going to answer my question, then? What do you do? Call the police on them? I wasn`t trying to be sarcastic but if you`ve got a kid disobeying you, there`s a good chance you`re going to have to have *someone* touch them to get them to move so they can be properly punished. Otherwise it`s like "Come with me" "No" "Well I can`t force you so okay" and they go free. o_O

@LillianDulci The principal(?) should have walked away to avoid escalation and recused himself from further administrative involvement. Another member of staff should have escorted the student to whatever admin area is used while parents are called. If the child refuses to cooperate or presses the attack, security/law enforcement should be called.

I think the school governors should consider administrative punishment of the child and principal. If the principal intends to press charges, he must be ready to be charged himself for assault of a minor under his care.

Unless the principal has reason to fear for his life or the safety of his students and cannot escape, then he has no right to be involved in a physical altercation.

so, draculya thinks he "should have walked away to avoid escalation and recused(sic) himself from further administrative involvement"
no, he is a figure of authority and should be able to exert that authority. the student went for him so why should he be disciplined?
This kid thinks this sort of behaviour is OK because of the line of thought that lead to your comment. (ie. maybe the kid shouldn`t have attacked him but he was provoked by someone in authority having the audacity to expect respect)

Certainly acts like a trouble maker, though I don`t see cheetos equaling assault. Hoping that was from after, otherwise that`s stupid. That would be like me being charged for assault cause we used to shoot spit wads at the teacher.

I don`t know how it works in the US, but in the UK school staff are authorised to restrain students who present a threat to themselves or others. There is regular training, at least in my neck of the woods, in de-escalation and safe restraint techniques.

You are not allowed to physically enforce compliance if there is no immediate threat. A student who is non-compliant but not a threat receives sanctions which can include permanent exclusion as a last resort. Grabbing a student to assert your authority is simply not on. Not saying it never happens, but you`re on dodgy ground.

Having said that the kid in this video needs a sharp lesson in how to behave. Unless there is something we don`t know.

Make an example of him. Death penalty. We can`t have kids of any color attacking the school staff. It`s mutiny, and the punishment is death. You don`t attack people who go to college and get a poo-pay job just to help you learn out of kindness. Misunderstanding or not, you don`t assault figures of authority unless you`re willing to die for the cause, otherwise everyone would do it.
