" "But no one has a right to involve other person`s families in their religion. That`s basically what`s wrong about the whole concept."

That pretty much says it all. doesn`t it? (and that should apply to ALL religions).

So? If someone want`s to paint their navel blue and dance under the moonlight what do I care?
Just so long as I don`t have to participate we`re good.
And when I`m dead, they can baptize, cannibalise, bury, burn, or stir fry my body, I don`t care.

@Draculya. Jews care, atheists know better. When I die you can make all the magical wishes you want to your imaginary friend(s). What do I care?

This is starting to come across as anti-Romney rather than anti-Mormon with the timing of it and all.

They have been doing this for years- which is why they are a treasure trove for geneologists. Who cares, what difference does it make- how can it possibly affect anything or anyone.

@thatjimguy: That may be, but remember that the other GOP candidates are trying to impose their religious beliefs on others as well.

I still would. A religious belief goes to the spirit, and the spirit is all that is left when your vessel becomes unsustainable.

And that is why the GOP race this year is dead. Obama (unfortunalty) is not going to have any difficulty. The GOP needs a new Rep, or the Democrats need to get off their asses and find someone to run against Obama. Even Hilary Clinton refuses to run against him.

Meh, its kinda like ppl raping your corpse or pissing on your grave after you die. Who cares, you`re dead anyway.
The only ones who could possibly be offended would be the family members, to the actual person, it makes no difference.

If it DID make a difference though... I imagine it would be quite comical. Ppl in hell roasting away for eternity, and then suddenly, POOF! Up to heave with you, cose some mormon randomly entered your name into a database!

But Steelgrid- if, as most religious people believe - there is only one true god and beliving in that one god is the only way to get the good stuff after you die, then surely once dead you already had the benefit of what you believed while alive, and if you had to wait for that benefit then the true god would be aware of what you yourself believed and would ignore subsequent actions by people who did not follow him?

Steelgrid, you assume continued existance afte death. I assume not. But look at the bright side, after they make you Mormon you can have more wives.

Maybe it`s about the Moron church trying to inflate their follower number stats and hence their standing.

And it peeves the Jews who did nothing to harm the Mormons.

Maybe I could start an atheist database and un-baptise Mormon followers by chanting "nah, nobody would be that gullible."

This is actually more common than you might think. I was raised in the LDS church and left it only a few years ago. I participated in these "baptisms for the dead" 2-3 times a month.

Never felt right. These people didn`t decide for themselves. One of the biggest problems I have with the church.

I am baffled by this statement. Obama is going to win so the Democrats need to find someone to run against him? WTH? He`s going to win because a majority of people feel he is working hard to make things better. Just because you think he is all bad doesn`t make it so.

Did anyone else notice the fallacy in the comment " and atheists, but the jews get an apology...Religious tolerance towards religious people?"

Fact: Atheists all state that being an atheist simply means that they have a lack of belief in a god i.e. atheism is just there, and there is no explanation for it. It is a lack of belief. Atheism is not a belief system.

Fact: Atheism is not a religion

Fact: Religious tolerance is not discriminating against someone who follows a different religious path or belief or belief system than you.

Therefore, sticking with the facts that Atheism is not a religion and not a belief or belief system why should religious tolerance be granted to atheists? Logically, it should not since atheism does not fall into either category required for religious tolerance.

Yawn. Anyone who has any serious interest in religion (promoting or debunking) should have already known this. Mormons also baptize the dead from their local cemeteries. Many fundamentalists force people into their faith (Christian or otherwise). People who oppose abortion and support the death penalty are hypocrites. BLAH Blah blah blah blah blah BLAH. How about a flame war concerning retarded politicians? Oh wait, I wouldn`t want to offend American civil religion. Boo hoo.

LOL, this was sooooo funny to me because the first I EVER heard of this problem was back in 1994 when I lived in Utah.

There was one, non-Mormon radio station which was always running "forbidden" news. For two days they reported on the Brew-ha-ha caused by the LDS church baptizing Holocaust Victims as Mormon.

The story almost instantly disappeared from the Utah airwaves and I had not heard of it since, until now!

    What`s the problem?
The post-death baptism just presents the Mormon veiwpoint to a departed soul that may never have had the chance to hear their "thruth". The soul is still free to accept or reject it.

So, since you`re dead, you are either in your heavan and why screw that up so you reject it... or you`re in your hell and here`s your ticket out!

    Win / Win all around.

I love how Steelgrid is so delusional that he thinks Democrats feel the same way about Obama as he does, lol. My prosperity has increased because Obama`s president. I`d LOVE four more years! If people go brain dead and vote someone from the GOP in, it`ll be like living under the Taliban before you know it.

What a non-issue. These are called "proxy ceremonies" in the article, which obviously means other people stand in for the baptisees. So these nuts think they`re somehow baptising a dead person on the other side of the country. How the hell does that affect anyone outside the Mormon temple?
Let them play their games and stop acting offended by it - it`s meaningless!
