What the hell"s up with Thailand? Is it just a free-for-all country with no rules now?

@Alisia: He did say do your research, after stating he had actually read a book. Unless you`d like to do your research without any printed evidence and just what you`ve heard on the TV one time.

I`m not stating 10% is a small enough number not to be concerned about but I am posting to counter act the fact that you "find it really strange" someone told you to do research.....why is it strange? Because your facts are the all knowing, all singing, crap of the world?

I find it really strange that someone would suggest I do research on the subject of human trafficking. If 1 in 10 Thai women are sold into trade, than that`s a pretty huge problem, not a small one. Also, that`s a statistic for women you`ve given us.What`s the stats on kids? It is said there are somewhere between 200,000 and 300,000 Thai prostitutes, how many are children?

@I-IS-BORED - again, I`m not saying it doesn`t happen. I`m saying it`s the minority by a long shot.

There is a shot called blow job. My cousin once tricked his friend into thinking the hot bartender was going to give him one, she did, but wasn`t what he was expecting.

@skullgrin- I`m having a great life; My wife loves me- and I her- but takes no guff. I have 5 beautiful kids who are all thriving in their lives, I had a successful business in Thailand for many years and now own a successful business here in the States. And I managed all this without consorting with prostitutes, who generally don`t benefit very much from what they do.
I would say that YOU, with your mindset, are missing out.

Yeah, clearly none of you are familiar with Thailand`s many Lady-boy pageants. I can almost guarantee that "she" has a penis.

"They are a morally conservative society in many ways and fiercely proud as a nation. Traditionally, dating couples don`t hold hands, don`t flirt, don`t hang out without several chaperones. A girl without virginity is literally ruined."
this is becoming less true with each passing year. while the thais are still conservative by western standards (ironically most of their conservative views were influenced by victorian europe" but a lot of it is just for face. Thailand has always had prostitution (like most countries) and i would say that none of the girls working in the Farang centred market are coerced in any way. they choose it, to help their family and some to find a rich husband.

@trajik007
k now add the % sold as wives to China because of their horrible male:female ratio, those sold into the trade that didn`t get to fill out some magical census paper, those who officially are registered as other things but are actually in the sex trade, etc...
I lived in Thailand for 24 years- ran my business based there, and do agree with you about poverty, and to some degree about the moral conservativeness- and yes, they were a great ally to have in the Asian theater, not just during our Vietnam/Cambodia debacle- but in the 40`s and even today.
Americans however, were not the first to take advantage of the sex trade, or sex tourism as it`s called these days- as if that makes it more palatable- the Chinese and Japanese were imbibing long before us.
Never visited these sectors and never really wanted to, and frankly I think my wife would have reached up my ass and pulled out my spine if I had.
But I would not have wanted to raise my family anywhere else but Thailand
you missed out

Do you have to buy the drink for her, or is this a perq furnished by the bar if you buy one for yourself?

Besides, the point I`m making isn`t about the military. I`m also not saying it`s all the bad foreigner`s fault, but that demand is as causal as supply.

I will also accept that many buffaloes have benefited from farang hand outs. LOL

Maybe I missed it, but we`re not spawning a sex trade in Iraq. I take your meaning, but you can`t put it all on American soldiers either.

Your views are all valid, but I suggest you also look at it from a Thai perspective just once. They are a morally conservative society in many ways and fiercely proud as a nation. Traditionally, dating couples don`t hold hands, don`t flirt, don`t hang out without several chaperones. A girl without virginity is literally ruined. They were never colonised, never broken, yet they were America`s most important ally in your darkest hour (Vietnam). In the meantime, your servicemen spawned the worst sex tourism industry on the planet. Sex tourism is created by both supply and demand. Some of their people live in dire poverty, with problems like debt and sick relatives and the lure of a village`s worth of income per sex worker is irresistible. And you laugh at this little girl?

@DeepFryer - I`m not saying that`s good or anything, but I`m saying it`s not as widespread as everyone seems to think it is. 10% is still too many, but it`s not 100%

@Alisia - you need to do more research. Only about 1 in 10 of the woman in Thailand are sold into the trade. The others are choosing to be there. Read a book called Feasts of Honor, by an anthropologist who actually went there and talked to these women for two years. Western ideas of how things work don`t mean that`s really how they work.

oh ONLY 10% of women...

This is why human trafficking needs to be addressed. There are countries not complying with an agreement. This is terrible and needs to stop. Check out the countries with the lax trafficking laws. I know when you hear trafficking, you think taking someone someplace, but these are kids forced into human slavery and that`s what it`s about. Needs to stop. map

They also had chick-in-a-basket. Strapped in and suspended from the ceiling on rigging that could be dropped over a certain area. You raise your hand and point, then some freak lowers the basket case right into your erection. In front of everybody under the eyes of God. All drunk sailors and army trash with bonners everywhere...bad scene I tell ya, had to get outta there.

Go to a wisky deli, drink 10 drinks and you get the girl and a room for the night. That`s what I did 20 years ago. Cost me $50 CND.
