It comes in at 57500 carats, no big deal.

This whole "biggest emerald" stuff is kinda weird. They tried to sell it around here somewhere and it didn`t go thru, for one, and it`s obviously not the clear type of stone you`d want for for a ring. And the "cutting" is odd in that the corners are rounded! What use is it?

Having thought about it, my prostitution comment was overly broad. Sometimes she`s just being a puppet for the gemstone industry.

I don`t know why either, so now I am compelled to find out why...

...that was interesting. Now I have a much better understanding of how lasers work. Gemstones work well as a lasing medium. Apparently you can theoretically get almost anything to work as a lasing medium and very many materials have been used, but a crystalline material doped with the right kind of material is efficient and relatively easy to get to work. The gemstones in lasers are artificial, of course.

Good info here
Funny how only males are saying it`s a pointless dumb rock. Regardless of what you think of it, you will need to buy one of these at least once in your life for that special someone! :)
Most prostitutes prefer cash, or so I`m told.

And yes, I am saying that if you`re exchanging sexual favours for valuables, you`re being a prostitute. It`s not love, it`s a business transaction.

@DixxyRarr - I think it means that we both look at it and subconsciously say to ourselves, "Ooh! It`s a huge Jolly Rancher!"

I love gemstones. My first instinct is to want to put it in my mouth. I`m not sure what that means...

@bridezilla--it`s funny how only females are attaching value to a pointless dumb rock*.

(I haven`t checked to verify the truth of this statement, I was just positing the opposite of what she said)

I was just about to ask what use it had.
Sooo, can we make a big laser with it?"

i`m not entirely clear on why, but many gemstones have a place in many certain types of lasers.

If you`re referring to the fact that you quoted them as writing "...watchful eye of the stone...", you might like to know that jewels are not uncommonly referred to as precious stones or just stones.

also, apparently it`s probably not an emerald

Sometimes, these rocks have useful properties. But, shhh wouldn`t want people to know that we actually use these things to do stuff. It lessens the status.

I agree. Huge amounts of money for tiny pieces of rock just because it`s sparkly. Er...why? You can buy sparkly things for much less money. A symbol of something enduring? Rubbish. If you wanted a rock that was a symbol of endurance, you`d use granite. It`s just about sparkles and advertising.

Also dyed, so not natural. And nobody at the auction last week put a bid on it.
