meh, I don`t buy into this anti-capitalist bullpoo. Adverts aren`t out to get you, they`re out to get your money. If you part with your cash for a product you enjoy, what`s the problem? Alternatively, if you purchase something that you ultimately don`t need, that`s your fault as far as I`m concerned.

Advertisements have the power to influence people, not force them to do something against their will. It`s our responsibility to be aware of this influence and understand our own minds.

the strategy of advertisers is to make you feel inferior, weak, not-right if you don`t buy products. Pay attention to the commercials the next time you watch the telee

Ungh, another example of a gospel of victimization. Sure you may have advertisers, you may have billboards, and TV commercials, but in the end, its a choice. Its your choice to be a puppet of society, its your choice to be a stooge of the advertisers, it is also your choice to make your own decisions and be a part of the general public.

Beauty is not an advertisement. Beauty is not forever. Beauty is marketable, but is also damaging. Beauty is plain fake.

We are all born wrinkly, you will die wrinkly. Enjoy it.

While I also find ads annoying, the logic is flawed, since ads aren`t in public spaces, they`re in leased/owned spaces. Following this train of thought would mean if I found the sight of my neighbors house offensive, I should have the right to tear down and re-build sections of it how I want.

@dsp2003 Unless your neighbor is trying to twist your perception of yourself in order to sell you his useless crap, I don`t think your analogy applies.

I don`t agree with his point either.

Advertisers paid money to the owner of a property (such as a television station, website, or privately owned building) and thus have the legal permission of property owner to use the space to say whatever they want in order to try to make money. Don`t like it, then don`t buy the product, but it does not give you the right to violate their copyright protection of their material.

Somewhat. I`d be lying if I said that I never bought anything because I saw it in an ad. But I look to ads to tell me what the product is, what it does, how it looks. If I like what I hear/see, then yes, I`ll buy it! Beats taking a blind shot and choosing a random thing from the shelf and hoping it does what I want it to.
No, I don`t feel bombarded with ads. I grew up in the city so it doesn`t faze me. I know how to be smart with my money.

A good documentary to watch about street art culture is "Exit Through the Gift Shop". It`s quite interesting and it also displays why I hate the subjectiveness of art critique.

@kawawakaba - that may be so for SOME adverts. But that doesn`t change the fact that adverts only influence you, they don`t force you to do anything. As I said before, it`s up to us whether we choose to be influenced or not.

For example, I see adverts on TV all the time telling me that I need to start buying anti-wrinkle cream now before it`s too late. They tell me that I will end up looking like an old man`s ball sack, but does that make me buy it? No, because I`m not a moron.

Is this guy serious!? Ok, fine, I’ll take off with this idea..

Brand new iPads for sale! New and used, starting at $200 - $250!!! Lower than you can find other iPads for! I’ve got them in standard and letter sizes, white and yellow, standard and college ruled!!! How can you beat this! But wait, there’s more! I’ll even include an ink dispensing stylus for free!!! Black, blue, red and more!

Yeah, there are strict laws to protect competitors and consumers against BS like above. I’m sorry you don’t care to see bill boards or for your show to be interrupted, but you can buy a DVR and quit your bitching and deal with it.
