Yep, I also truly facepalmed at the "Canada? Oh wait that`s a state.."

As a Canadian, I could answer all of them except the question regarding the representative for Washington.

That`s pretty sad.

I have heard the # of states question a lot and for some reason people get it wrong... I can`t understand why. Who told them anything different than 50???

I hope at least a lot of that was staged.

In other news: "I hope you enjoyed our programming." Huh? Maybe that`s an accepted use of the word, I`ve just never heard it. Sound weird.

To be honest ask these types of questions in many countries and you would find similar levels of ignorance. Remember through pooty TV alone kids are brought to believe it`s cool to be a bit dumb. The Disney channel being a prime example.

Countries that border the US:
"Uh... Canada, oh but that`s a state..." (paraphrased; damned if I`ll go back thru all that idiocy) THAT was the point that I actually facepalmed. Utterly. Completely. Pathetic.

As opposed to what the conservatives would do? Teach Jesus didn`t put dinosaurs on the Ark with Noah and Abstinance Only is the only way to deal with STDs and pregnancy. Ignorance is Bliss doesn`t really work in the real world.

i hate these types of shows. they fail to realize just how unimportant government is on young teenagers. they just dont give a poo. think about it, when you were a junior in high school did you care about government affairs? no you spent your spare time trying to get ass/beer or going to see your friends to spend time doing jack poo. just saying these videos prove nothing.

notice that it was only a small group of kids who didnt know the answers. Im sure the majority of who they asked did know the answers. You have to be careful with clips like this. They only show you what they want (just like the media)
These are the results of putting sports on a pedestal. That or picking what to show. Take note world.
Notes for what? Have you seen European football where a celebration kills 100s or a riot kills thousands all over a win or loss. I hardly think we put sports on as high a pedestal as that. It`s because we spend more on war than education and even more-so because parents have next to nothing to do with their kids anymore and don`t help and push their kids to make something of themselves. As long as they leave mommy and daddy alone they could care less if TV, PC, Console games, Lil Wayne, and disgruntled, underpayed, undersupplied teachers at understaffed, underfunded schools do all of it (or little of it) for them. Then when the kids fail out (much to their surprise of course) they blame it on everyone else or on liberals, conservatives, dems, GOP, gays, blacks, or the Nazis. So long as they don`t blame themselves any.
Liberals have taken over our education system, and this is what they`ve done with it -- created a bunch of ignorant, mind-numbed sheeple who will grow up to be loyal Democrats voters.
If you believe this you are drating retarded right along with the countless Democrats who say this poo about republicans. I contest that the deeper rooted problem is that crooked politicians do whatever the drat they like regardless of voters because they are too busy being good sheep arguing amongst themselves and blaming anyone and everyone who doesn`t agree with them for everything that`s bad. Democrat/Republican, two sides to the same drated up coin keeping stupid drats like you pointing fingers instead of fighting back.
United we stand Divided we fall.
-Aasop

My American wife couldn`t answer these questions. I guess people only know stuff that`s relevant to them. If you had asked what`s the largest chamber of the heart? I am sure there`d have been fewer wrong answers.

Also, it`s biased reporting for laughs; they filtered for wrong answers to compile. So the students were overwhelmingly correct. Except the blonds, who seemed to feature heavily.

Back to the video -- This is an old Leno bit and extends much further from the halls of high schools.

I wouldn`t put too much stock into it. I love history, but I know not everyone does. It`s funny though.

Wait a second @NNoamfer...you don`t think knowing who the VP is or knowing the war that we gained our independence was or HOW MANY STATES THERE ARE is basic knowledge for an American?!? I understand you are not an American...but these are things that are taught in American Elementary Schools.

On another note I think this can be explained pretty easily. Kids are not taught...they are shown answers to basic questions and expected to memorize them for tests. As soon as the test is over so is the retention. Schools want their students to pass so they get more funding. If schools were given funding not based on pass rate I don`t think this would be as much of a problem.

I really hope I can afford to send my future children to private school. Which I honestly don`t think would be much better.

Razbitom, from people who have moved here from Puerto Rico, it isnt that they are refused statehood. It`s more along the lines they they do not want to be a state. As it is they do not have the pay the same taxes we do here on the mainland [or in Alaska or Hawaii].

This could be wrong, but its just what I have been told by friends and their families in their long talks of the island.

Do any of you realize that all they do is ask a whole bunch of questions and only pick the really bad ones? You can see some kids appear in only one or two questions, that`s because they answered most correctly, and they probably questioned way more people than that.

As someone who is not American, I don`t find most of this questions basic knowledge.

actually there *should* be 51 stars on the flag. when will puerto rico get recognition?
forced to use US money and obey US laws, nominally US citizens but without the right to vote in presidential elections or to have any true voice in US affairs.
just give `em the damned statehood already. yeesh.

What you guys have to understand is that it`s not the kids that are faulty, it`s the education system. It`s based on cramming facts into kids heads for the tests. Once those tests are done the kids discard what they learned to make room for more information for the next test. It`s not the people that are flawed, it`s the education system
