so hypocrisy in the church isn`t a symptom of a system where people worship and order their lives around the concept of appeasing a god that doesn`t exist, but rather that these people don`t try hard enough to appease this god? This guy may have good intentions, but his endeavor is likened unto the Tower of Babylon: it didn`t reach god, not because god isn`t there, but because it wasn`t tall enough.

I`m not opposed of similarly thinking people of gathering and discussing their faith. But as soon as anyone in that group starts dictating how the others should behave or think, that group becomes religion.

And these new atheists should learn to keep their mouths shut. Every half-thruth or complete lie will be proven wrong eventually and when it happens: don`t start mocking "i told you so".. That is just rude. We can`t simply know everything and still we need to function in life with limited information. Then you just have to guess and believe that the guess is somewhat correct and continue making decisions. That`s as close to faith a man can have. It`s the difference that when that guess is proven wrong with enough facts, man has to be strong enough to change his faith.

I really should get back to sleep.. cantstopcantstopcantstop, i`m probably possessed.. :)hmmm, is possessed with one s or two? posessed... possessed...ah, drat it, i believe it`s with two un

And to end my part of that rant, it took me twenty years to get rid of nightmares about armageddon or rapture, name it what you want.. Even when i was dee in religion, did what i was suppose to do, didn`t have impure thoughts i still woke up screaming. Don`t want anyone to stop believing, nor do i want to recommend anyone start believing.

Oh yeah.. religion also strictly forbids critical thinking and asking questions that might undermine it`s influence. If God exist, i bet he wouldn`t be afraid to have a little rebellion now and again.. Man in the status of holding the power, on the other hand..

oh and trust me, those of us that know what he is talking about understand exactly what he means by religion.

Man doesn`t need a religion to talk to God, if such existts. Religion, in a sense what the guy in this video means, is an organization designed to control masses, to gain power and influence.

Catholicism and catholic church are two different things, the latter is primarily focused on gaining wealth. Jesus didn`t want us to start these huge organizations, he just wanted us to learn and practice two things: Love thy neighbour and Love God. Everything else is mans own invention.

Personally, i don`t believe in both nor do i think that it is impossible for such a deity to exist but i do like Jesus teachings. The etchics and morals that "love thy neighbour" or like i have learnt it, love your fellow man really means. Faith or belief is a good thing, churches and religion are inherently flawed...

Like any religious "bosses" can ever prove they have a mandate from God, they just say to you that they do and you will go to hell if you think otherw

If you listen carefully, you will realize there are a lot of inconsistencies in this emotionally charged video. There are glimpses of truth, but wrapped up in unsophisticated, pseudo-theological babble.

It`s hard to tell what he means by religion. He says religion causes war and fail to feed the poor. It`s not religion that causes war, it`s men. WWI, WWII (Nazi genocide), Rowanda genocides, Vietnam War, massacres by Mao, Stalin, and Communists were not caused by religion. The Catholic religion runs more charities and take care of more poor people than any institution in the world. i`m not sure what that guy on the video has done for the poor.

Religions are man made in one sense, but they come from man`s desire for GOD and to worship GOD, as it is right to do. And just because it`s man made doesn`t mean it`s bad and it doesn`t mean GOD didn`t inspire it. The Bible itself from which this dude got his quotes was written by man, yet we still call it the Word of GOD. The Bible as we know it didn`t drop out of the sky one day, as you know. People wrote/recited it over thousands of years!
JESUS was born into religion. HE said, "I come not to abolish the law [of the Jewish religion] but to fulfill it." HE observed the rules of HIS religion. Some people abused the rules to make others miserable and to make themselves superior, but you shouldn`t throw out the baby with the bath water.

There are hypocrites in religions, but there are many saints, and saints are sinners who did their best to follow JESUS. Our religion is a religion of sinners. i don`t know of any religion that doesn`t have sinners. It is true that people think they have to be perfect and holy to be a true member of a religion, but this is not the case with Catholicism. Catholics are mistaken in thinking this. This is why we have confession All the Freaking Time! We know we sin all the time and need GOD`s grace. But there`s a difference between a sinner who sins all the time without trying to be better and one who tries his best but keeps failing.

JESUS established a community of followers. HE said, "If you love me, follow my commandments." A community with certain essential beliefs that follow rules and commandments--sounds like religion to me. JESUS did not create a new religion. HE worked within the context of HIS religion. JESUS had religion. HE was a faithful Jew till the end of HIS earthly life. "It is finished," does not mean religion is finished. It means that GOD has done everything HE could to convince us that HE loves us and begs us to follow HIS commands, which is the key to our eternal happiness. Following a religion is not necessarily equivalent to stray from GOD`s command.

This guy in the video said he loves the church. i`m not sure what church he belongs to that isn`t part of a religion. If you profess JESUS is Lord then you`re a Christian, and Christianity is a religion. He wants to break away from relgiion, but he establishes his own rules and criteria for faith, and ironically creates his own "non-religion" religion.

One good thing someone can get out of this: don`t be a hypocrite. Live what you profess.

@ LtotheG ""I`ve got the right kind of religion, and everyone else is wrong". Which is what all religious people say despite not having any more proof or logic in their favour" change the word religion to belief, wouldnt that statement describe every side to the whole religion argument? Yes Christians do this(and shouldnt, after all i TRY not to even though i sometimes do) but atheists are summed up in this statement too, but i am wrong for pointing out that side of it i know. Simply i believe in God, i feel Him in my life every day. If you dont, than that is your choice and i respect that. All i am asking is for the double standard to stop. The proof i have of Gods existence is i believe he does, and that is all i need. Atheists proof of no God is no one can show them proof, then so be it. Just please stop with criticizing Christians for doing something "you" do as well "I believe there is no God, You are wrong if you dont agree with me.

"Jesus didn`t need to church to be known."

Considering there is no reference to Jesus by a contemporary historian during the time he was supposed to have lived I would say you are wrong.

@uplink: Jesus didn`t need to church to be known. Assume he was/is who he said he was/is (which i believe), does he really need people to do anything for Him? He is fully man AND fully God. He wouldn`t need us to do anything. He makes himself known when he wants.

@LtoftheG: He doesn`t have the "right religion" because he doesn`t have a religion at all. Religion is people following regulations and laws to try to relate to God. Christianity is God coming to people and telling them they are free of those laws and rules. Christianity is a relationship.

I like a lot of what he says, but he`s confusing "Religion" for "Christian Churches". Not all Religions are Jesus-based, Christian, Abrahamic, Theistic, etc.

While I like some of what he says, the essence of what he is saying is: "I`ve got the right kind of religion, and everyone else is wrong". Which is what all religious people say despite not having any more proof or logic in their favour.

He can go on all day about this Jesus and religion stuff, but if it weren`t for the church, people wouldn`t know Jesus, and if it weren`t for religion, Jesus would have been long forgotten.

Thank you Webz, you summed up my thoughts exactly about TAA`s video. Anyone`s views on the original video notwithstanding, TAA`s response is completely off base with message of the original poem.

Just to clarify:

To a Christian, a `religious` person is someone who is legalistic, believes that faith is all about rules and conditions, has a very narrow view of their faith, and acts egotistic and self-righteous in their faith. Like the pharisees in the Bible who Jesus constantly argued with and condemned (which is why this guy says Jesus and Religion are on two opposite sides of a spectrum). Another example are many Republicans today who believe that voting Republican is an essential part of being a Christian, and that it`s impossible to be a democrat and a Christian, which is ridiculous. That`s why in the video he specifically mentions Republicans. Now go watch TAA`s argument that Jesus had never heard of republicans or elections and realise how irrelevant that is in any way, shape or form.

The atheist meaning that TAA uses: a religious person is simply someone who worships a deity.

To people posting the TAA video, it`s very embarrassing to watch. TAA acts all pompous while bringing up the most ridiculous and uninformed points. He doesn`t understand the purpose or meaning of the video at all.

The word religion used in a Christian context is VERY different from how Atheists use it. This guy is a Christian and is using the word in a Christian way. TAA criticises the video using the word in an Atheist way. The result is hilarious.

It`s like if a British person said he was going to put his bag in the `boot` (meaning the trunk of a car), TAA would then call him an idiot, and make a 10 minute long youtube video, because there`s no way he could possibly fit that bag into some footwear. That`s how dumb and pointless TAA`s video is.
I think God(s) are born of Chaos and Chance. Life is the result of no chaos. Life comes when chaos finally aligns to a perfect point that life can even take root. Life is not the product of Chaos, but chaos is the product of life.
This is just rhetorical nonsense phrased in the form of a meaningless tautology. God(s) are born of chaos and chance but life is the result of no chaos? "Chaos aligns"? Contradictory.

Suddenly he sees out of the mist an old man coming toward him. The man is very old, with white hair, stooped over a little. "Stop!" Jesus yells. "Who are you?"

"Oh, please help me, I am an old man in search of my son." Jesus is very curious. Could this be his father? "Tell me of your son, old man."

"Oh, you would know him if you saw him. Holes in his hand where the nails used to be, he was nailed to a cross, you know..."

"Father!!!!!" Screams Jesus.

"Pinocchio!!!!!!!" yells the old man.

Jesus dies and goes up to Heaven. The first thing he does is look for his father, as he has never met the man before and is curious as to what he looks like, and whether or not Jesus looks like his mother or father, etc. He looks high and low but cannot find him.

He asks St. Peter "Where is my father?" But St. Peter says he doesn`t know.

He asks the archangel Gabriel "Where is my father?" But Gabriel doesn`t know.

He asks John the Baptist "Where is my father?" But John does not know. So he wanders Heaven, impatiently searching.

"Life is born out of chaos and chance. "

This is only partly true. I think God(s) are born of Chaos and Chance. Life is the result of no chaos. Life comes when chaos finally aligns to a perfect point that life can even take root. Life is not the product of Chaos, but chaos is the product of life.

Most of you know I dont believe in most religious crap. But when I see the similarities between a camera and our eyes, or when I learn that electricity is what makes the body live, even though we cannot produce electricity at will, or when a body part can be completely and successfully replaced with mechanics, I do have to wonder, if ever so slightly, what team constructed the definition of life as we humans know it.

I do like this guy`s approach though. He wants to BELIEVE in Jesus but not worship him. He wants to BELIEVE in god, but not let it run his life.

This is the example of the perfect mix of religion and reasoning that I have been hoping to see. A person with beliefs, without conviction. A person with morals, without obligation. A person living happily under his own standards, without feeling like he has sinned.

I dont believe in Christianity, but i believe in Christ. I completely believe he lived, had a mother named mary, and was born in a fashion that to be honest, was quite commonplace for that time.

I also believe that Jesus would be disguted that the things he tried to teach have been so perverted that no one can honestly say what true Christianity really is.

Hell these people dont even know which bible to stick with.

The movie Troy put it so perfectly.

"It is not us who needs to envy the gods, the gods envy us. They envy us because we are mortal, and everything is more beautiful because we are doomed."

God, or Gods, gave human`s the greatest gift any LIVING thing could receive, and that is the ability to die.

@Wundt, actually, many Christians define "religion" to mean a belief system propagated by a church that teaches that entry to heaven is dependent upon following a set of rules (i.e. Ten Commandments, Leviticus).

Whereas many Christians define the "gospel" as the teaching that man has been forgiven for all our sins, past, present, and future, and that entry to heaven is granted by God`s grace and generosity. ...and for _that_ reason, Christians` love for God generally causes them to follow many of God`s old rules in their own lives (not in other people`s lives) in order to personally honor Him and His creation.

That being said, I hate overly artsy stuff like this. Too much metaphor and not enough definition.

One of the stupidest things I`ve ever seen.
Life is born out of chaos and chance.
"god" had nothing to do with it. That`s what makes it beautiful.
"jesus" has nothing to do with us and that makes us beautiful.

SCIENCE & RESEARCH FTW.

That is the ONLY thing worth praising. Not "jesus" and not "god".

Nice and nicely done, but ultimately a fail. What he is ultimately doing is preaching ANOTHER religion. He also says religion is not faith, but he follows the Bible, which is the basis of religion.

I heard a Christian like this say, "The Bible isn`t factual, but it is truthful", or, the ideas of the Bible are good even if some of it is mythology. However, this is picking and choosing just like all Christians do. Finding the parts you like, the parts you agree with, and disregarding all of the murder, incest, and violence in the book.

Ultimately, what he is doing is no different than what all Christians do.
