Submitted by: kitteh9lives 5 years ago in

Imagine every person on earth has 100 pounds of plastic. Now imagine most of that ending up in the ocean. It"s sad.

"Pacific Garbage Patch" sounds eerily similar to "Kardashian".

"Imagine if the government payed for recycling instead of making citizens do it."

Or imagine if people actually learned to take responsibility for the results of their own actions and behaviour, rather than trying to abrogate that responsibility onto someone else. We are *all* at fault in this, and it falls on every one of us, collectively and as individuals, to figure out how we can stop making things worse.

Add to that a floating debris field the size of California that is about to reach the British Columbia coast, the result of the Japanese tsunami last year, that will eventually end up either washing up on the west coast or joining this mid-ocean garbage dump. Mind boggling....

"And imagine, if you will, that stuff washing up somewhere eventually and being picked up. OH MY GOD. "

And imagine, if you will, that someone actually watched the video and understood that the debris in the gyre will never wash up somewhere.

That is it? With a name like the Pacific Garbage Patch, you would assume you could maybe build a shack on it and live out there... like a floating island.

The earth is amazing how it can detoxify itself.

If we need the trash later, we can use it. If we can`t recycle it now, we`ll figure out a way later.

a lot of the stuff from Japan that got washed out by the tsunami is currently getting mixed up in these things, or causing more of them.....and also beginning to wash up on the shores of Tofino, B.C.
