    a) That`s a Croc.

    b) They are all at least 5 to 10 feet away from it. It`s an illusion.

Oh look a nice perspective camera shot. All you need is a camera really low on the ground so short things look taller and you need people to stand really far back but without being able to see HOW far back so you think they look closer (and therefore smaller) than they really are.
Also, it could be a Cayman, neither croc nor alligator.

It is a Nile Crocodile and it could very easily get that big as the Nile is one of the largest. There book called Eyelids in the Morning that shows shots like these through out the book. And those people are not 10 feet back they are more like 5..

Gerry, I`d say it`s forced perspective too... but it`s NOT.

Look at the ground in front of the beast. Look at it`s feet and claws next to the ground and the rocks in proportion to it. I HAVE seen a croc this big. It was dead and stuffed, but yes, just as large.

Crocodile. Alligators have straighter jawlines and rarely stray onto dry ground, whereas crocodiles are cool with wandering around dusty egypt.

As someone who used to work full time as a photoshop retoucher, I see little evidence of forced perspective in this. My guess is that this croc is close to 18 feet, which is about normal for a mature Nile croc.

I have no idea how you can`t see the forced perspective, Prussia. Look at the far right side. Dude in khakis is clearly beyond the grassy patch in between him and the croc, as are the rest of the people. That grassy patch is at least three feet.

It`s a common crocodile, aka Nile crocodile as has been said. Also as has been pointed out these crocs are commonly 5 meters long, but can be longer. This one looks about 6m. Not as large as a Salt water croc, which have been found at almost 9 meters

This is not a false perspective, you can see from the guy sitting by the end of the tail he is on the same rock and no more than 2 feet away.

I lived in East Africa and rafted the Nile at least 2-3 times a year for about 5 years and this is not uncommon at all. There are crocs there that reach 20 plus feet.

See, dinosaurs aren`t extinct at all

I used to think that, so I looked it up. Crocodiles (and other similar species) aren`t dinosaurs and aren`t descended from dinosaurs. They`re a seperate branch from a common ancestor. They look similar in many respects but there are key differences. It`s a similar situation to humans and chimpanzees.

If you look at the greenery in front of the croc you can see they`re quite big in relation to it. It`s camera trickery, nothing else. That thing`s probably only about 7 foot tops.

To stop all of the arguing over whether or not this photo is real, or even possible, let`s use some facts.

I used software called MB ruler to measure the width of a very clear head in the photo and divided that by the length of the croc. I found that the length of the croc was about 50 times longer than the width of the head I measured.

Using google, I found that the average head is about 6 inches wide. This means that if the head were positioned directly over the croc in the photo, the croc would have to be 25ft long.

Considering that 25ft would be nearly 20% longer than the world record holder, I would say that it`s not really the size that is pictured here.

It is possible that the people aren`t obnoxiously far away, but they are indeed at a significant enough distance to skew the viewers perception.

And by the way, deer hunters and anglers use this trick quite often.

I once took a paddle boat from Juba to Kosti, crocs were attracted to it because of food scraps thrown overboard. Few things are more satisfying than standing at the back of a paddle boat, drinking a beer under an African moon and bouncing the bottle off a crocs head with a lovely `clonk`.

That`s definately forced perspective. Look at the grass just under the crocs head. There`s no way that grass is any longer than a couple of inches. That would make the stone wall the croc is sitting on about 6 inches high, making the croc about 10 feet long, max.

"There`s no way that grass is any longer than a couple of inches"

yeah, everyone knows it`s impossible for grass to be more than a couple of inches high.
