The History Channel seems a bit confused these days.

Pawn Stars deals with a lot of different items that have a historical context. Ancient Aliens offers an alternative POV on certain types of historical events and the 2012 Apocalypse material deals with what our possible (probable since we live in a cosmic shooting gallery) may be.

Pawn Stars, like almost every other `reality show` out there, is a lie. Staged, if not scripted, interactions between actors.
Even if it were real, I don`t think `historical items` alone makes it valid for the history channel. History channel should be as boring as History class was, because hey, some people like it that way.

I remember over ten years ago the "TLC" The Leaning Chanel had educational programing. Remember over 25 years ago "MTV" music television played music.
A lot of them are doing it. Its call "rating whoring"

I don`t like Pawn Stars but my hubby does so we watch it.
I admit, I like the cranky old man. He says the best stuff.

"In defense of the show `Pawn Stars`, at least they deal in historical objects and you can learn some things about them."

Actually Crakr, many of the item buys are set-ups for ratings. They hire actors to bring in "antiques" that are often just borrowed from nearby stores.

You could say the same thing about MTV.

Anyone else get really irritated with the fact that Animal Planet`s slogan is now "Surprisingly Human".

Come on. Really? You know humans can`t get enough of themselves when even the ANIMAL channel, the one channel we have devoted to animals, is trying to convey how much human-related content they have.

I dunno, the Nastrodamus stuff, though completely loony, is not only fairly interesting, but is based quite a bit on history. Same with Ancient Aliens (most of the time), looking at ancient "things" and discussing very enlightening, if not at least entertaining and captivating, hypothesis.

But Pawn Stars, Ice Road Truckers, Axe Men... Things like that.. Complete garbage.

@Crakr. They take advantage of people hard up for money and offer prices far below what their "experts" suggest. It`s a scam.

xiquiripat: Scamming ? Really ?, they bring in experts to value the items, in most cases, and both of them either agree to a price or don`t.

Their customers aren`t getting scammed, in fact the Harrison`s are the one`s that`ve been `scammed` on several occasions, when they didn`t call for some expert help.

So take your trolling elsewhere.

You know what? drat Pawn Stars. Four unlikeable non-nice individuals scamming people out of their artifacts does not a history show make.

The sad part is that while this video is completely accurate, an alternate title for these screen shots could be "Factual history that won`t draw an audience because most people in America who watch TV regularly enough to be considered `The viewership upon which our advertising prices and therefore the life of our entire station are based` are dumb-asses." and "The opposite of that." Yes, it`s sad that the History channel is pandering to the masses, but the fact is that the majority of the viewing public are idiots and this sh*t sells commercial spots. Those of us that once enjoyed the factual and historical shows on this channel simply need to accept that at least there are still books on the facts out there, or as the viewership of "Ancient Aliens" would describe them "Lies sent down by the man to keep us blind from the truth...maybe?"

and I second jacos27. Have anyone ever tried to sit through those long-arse war documentaries? I change the channel like 20 minutes in. So, sorry for the History Channel trying to make money. Although, pickers really doesn`t seem like it has much to do with history except if you`re studying the history of advertising.

actually I agree with Tobunshi

Just because a show isn`t a documentary about WWII doesn`t mean it`s not history. Pawn Stars involves a lot of history, same with pickers. Ancient aliens teaches alternate theories. I mean do you only expect to hear one theory when watching the science channel? didn`t think so.

Of course alien conspiracy theories don`t belong on the History channel, but I always gave Pawn Stars a pass because they handle historically significant stuff. *Shrugs*
