It looks like it`s got a brain tumor. One of our rats went like that just before he died and the vet said that`s what it was.

to me, that looks a lot more like a chinchilla than a squirrel. maybe i`m crazy, but the eyes look too big and the ears are too big and round.

Maybe he is a squirchilla or a chinell. They are rare you know. They die from food comas way to often.

Definitely a flying squirrel. I`ve had many encounters with them when I was logging. They will nest in a tree and can have a pretty large group huddled together. They have poor day-sight and will run up you to try for some elevation to glide from. Many times I have had that happen while cutting logs from a fallen tree. I have caught several while doing so. They are very slow compared to a red squirrel and very mellow.

I am quite sure they are a close cousin to a chinchilla. They have beautiful pelts.

@Burgh: flying squirrel? Well that explains why it looks so weird. We don`t have those up here, eh?

I think the poor guy is dehydrated from being stuck in that bird feeder!

B.C. would. I lived and worked only a few miles from there most of my life. :)

They are nocturnal so not much seen in day. Usually they take over abandoned red squirrel nests in live trees. Old snags that are riddled with woodpecker holes are almost sure to have them. Occasionally we would take down snags for firewood. If there were any holes in the top they always had them inside.

Yes stuioso... in America we grow our squirrels big and fat so we can eat them.

Great comment Mr. Peabody, definitely not a flying squirrel

Also, the chinchilla pics ketteh posted reminded me of this

I`ve heard you can put capsaicin (hot pepper) on bird seed, and it doesn`t bother the birds, but the squirrels can`t eat it.
