Could be a water main break, but a fellow in Alaska did something similar by running a garden hose up a tree and leaving the water running a little faster than a slow trickle and ended up with what looked like an iceberg in his yard...pretty cool actually. The hell if I can find a link to his photos of his "art" though....stupid internet....dammit!!!

This is done by taking a water hose and putting a nozzle that sprays a mist into the air, there is a Bank in Gaylord Michigan that does this every winter

Maybe they just pointed a hose at it for a few hours ( do hoses work in 0 degrees temperatures? ) You will have to forgive me if its a stupid question its 100.4 degrees here right now and dosent really ever drop below that.

It`s actually an ice climbing practice wall. As the other commenters have speculated, you run a hose non stop all winter and let it build bigger and bigger. It actually looks like a fun route! I`d love to climb it.

Something similar happened to a guy`s Porsche and his garage a few years back. I think the story goes he was off on vacation and the furnace broke. A pipe froze in the wall, burst, and filled his garage 1/2 way up with ice.

I think TadnJess is closer to it than zeebeedee and whoever else said `fire hydrant`.. that fire hydrant would have to be IN the trunk of the tree, or riiiight next to it, and I seriously doubt that`s the situation. The picture is awesome, though.

I can easily explain what happened here. First, let`s observe the ice and what it seems to have been doing. We can safely assume, as has been demonstrated that water flows specifically with gravity and that once water molecules begin to slow in their movement, water then freezes. The end result is the shape of said ice.

Water also does not appear from nowhere and no external sources are apparent to show, demonstrably that the water was actually flowing in a downward motion at the time. Also, we do not see the ice leaving evidence of a cresting as the water made contact with the ground which is solid.

With those facts present I conclude that there is only one thing which could have caused this phenomena; Awesomeness.
