Bored At Night: I"m S.O.P.A.-cking Bored

Hey I-A-B,

So S.O.P.A--we all know what it is--I"m not gonna shut down I-A-B and force-feed you literature about what it is. There are really no unbiased publications out there these days, but if you"re interested, look to sites like theWall Street Journals, the Washington Posts and the New York Timesfor somewhat readable reporting.

Until then, enjoy all the gloriousness of boobies and butt jokes that is I-A-B.

--Fancylad

PS: Kittens too, don"t forget the kittens.

Is I-A-B a scab for not hopping on the SOPA boycott? No, you"re just smart enough to research the bill yourself.

You might as well shut I-A-B down too... without imgur, reddit, ect., up your not going to have any new content anyway.

But I don`t want IAB to join in.
Where would be go to post about how ritiously upset we are about SOPA. We`d have to talk to real people and interact in the real world about it and... well that`s just not as sanitary.

so stay online IAB

Really tedgp? you are really picking on my choice of words? What the hell do you mean by our rights are never taken? That is one of the dumbest comments i have ever heard. Ever. The problem with your comments is that people shouldn`t have to search the whole web for usefull information when a site is nice enough to provide a conglomerate of it for our perusal (and not for profit might i add). Another thing that annoys me is the fact that you seem to think that we should stucture ourselves around an unfair law that should not exist in the first place. Everything i love about the internet, freedom to escape real life if only for a second, is about to vanish because of people like you who assume we should all just assimilate. Appreciate what you have tedgp, you`ll be singing a different tune a year from now.

Alex Ohanian (Reddit founder) said it best: "Republicans and democrats can`t come together on a budget or the national debt, but Hollywood lobbyists pump $94million into their campaigns and members from both sides of the isle line up to co-sponsor their legislation." We are the 99%. We must fight back.

Fancy, if SOPA gets passed, you will have as many SOPA complaints as posts. The entire site will be reduced to a links page and comments with no embedding. It might well be the end of the party: lights on, chairs stacked on tables, Friday playing on the PA.

"It`s Friday, Friday Gotta get down on Friday Everybody`s lookin` forward to the weekend, weekend"

Imagine that for a minute.

This is monumental.

Not really. There are thousands of sites that contain the same info.

Your rights are never "taken". You pretty much give them away.

Anyone who is having trouble with the Wikipedia blackout:

If your browser supports it, turn off Java scripts for Wikipedia.

Problem solved. You should remember to turn them back on when you`re done, though. Turning them off can make internet navigation a pain in the ass.

If you don`t know how to do it... Google still works. The Doodle may be blacked out, but the search function still works.

@ Draculya - I don`t think you can file a complaint. Only people can. You are not a corporation so therefore you obviously are not people.
Draculya: You assume that the powers that be give me access to I-A-B`s back end.
Fancy, we love you, but with you it`s always about the access to the back end. Dude, I`m no Sigmund Freud, but you`re clearly fixated on anal sex. Dude, you should seek out a reputable therapist.

Oh, and on the Admin/Mod beerfest, involving consumption of copious amounts of alcohol, that`s happening.

Saaaaay, here`s a funky idea... just floating it out there. What if we did a "Fancy and Davy do California" thing. Probably would be lame, but has the potential to be epic. I`m thinking a live blog or at the very least, a few photos.

Let`s throw it out there: anyone interested in seeing Fancy and Davy embark on a photo-recorded adventure, which may or may not involve alcohol, recreational drugs, dwarfs and hookers? Maybe dwarf hookers?

Damn, I`m already talking this encounter up above expectations.

@Gerry1of1 the first thing I`ll do if it`s passed is flood the regulator with complaints about Disney, Sony, Universal, and the campaign websites of everyone who voted for it. I bet other people will too. If there are enough complaints, then the regulators with either go into infinite backlog or they`ll automate the process shutting down the entire media side of the web. Let`s see what happens to media revenues when they can`t use the web.

Here`s another thing. What would happen if someone mirrors unfiltered DNS on their servers. Google could do it. Mozilla could do it. Another government could do it. Heck anyone could do it.

In the end, a US entity would issue the domains and a foreign entity would handle DNS redirect to IPs. Only issue is trust.

Draculya: You assume that the powers that be give me access to I-A-B`s back end. Nope--I wish. If I did, I could make so many necessary code changes. But I`m seriously considering it. I mean, I could get in a sh*tstorm of trouble, but what else would be new.

@ Bear and Gerry

These sites going down is not because google or yahoo is removing them from searches. They will be shut down by the site owners probably with a message about this is what SOPA will bring. They won`t show anything even if you type in the exact url Bear because they will have changed their main page being the point. It`s supposed to wake you up to what`s going on

@ beardtats - it`s my understanding by people smarter than I that yes, if you have the exact domain number you can still type it in. But you couldn`t just do a name like "www.I-am-bored.com" and get anywhere.

But if anyone understands it better, jump in anytime and explain it.

Yo Fancy, just got the confirmation today that I`ll be down in LBC for a conference 22-25 April. You still up for sinking a couple of cheeky Margeritas together and maybe taking in the Opera (read: get sh*t-baked and wreck the town)?

now, correct me if i`m wrong....but the website won`t "disappear" entirely, no? it just is invisible to searches from google and the like. if you possess the correct and exact URL, you can still key it in and access it yourself, the content just won`t be readily available to random browsers.....i could be entirely off base, i thought i heard that on CBC`s discussion earlier today.

@ Victim - Wrong Wrong Wrong

You said "lawsuit". There is no `lawsuit`.
A Corporation like Disney need only file the complaint and the offending website is shut off from all browsers. There is no `lawsuit`. No hearing. Nothing. Just the United Corporations of America taking control.

On a completely different note, I got out of a ticket on my way home tonight! The undercover vice detective said I he wanted to give me a ticket because I was "being very rude." Lucky for me, detectives don`t carry ticket booklets. Also, WTF kind of reason is "being very rude?"
