Will it ever END?

One could only imagine that the bats would be right back after they put back a similar style roof. Don`t forget bats squish flat and only need a gap the width of a dime to fit in. (especially juvenile ones)

Why are they so scared of them? And I wonder how they fixed the problem. How`d they keep them from coming back? Also, I bet it smelled really bad.

What the hell is the OP talking about?! Bats are extremely cute! For whatever reason, they`re not known for it. They eat pests, are extremely clean, and are more or less smart. Ok, fine, they can get rabies, but that`s true of any mammal. Bunnies have just as much of a chance of getting rabies as any other mammal, yet I don`t see anyone calling THEM disgusting.

I have mixed feelings about bats. On the one paw, I know they`re generally harmless to humans and are great insect-pest eaters. I might--might--even consider installing a bat-house some day.

On the other paw, back in 1995 there was a terrible death of a girl in Connecticut (the state in which I grew up) from rabies, which doctors believe was caused by a bat bite. I`ll never forget that incident because it was so terrible. Read the story here.

If that was in UK, there would be a preservation order slapped on the roof. The roofers would have been arrested and locked up for interfering with wildlife.

I`d like to bet that no one gets mosi bites around that house.

The Spanish word for bat is "Murcielago", or "skreek! skreek! SKREEEK!" I would see why roofers could get a phobia for them, imagine the noise above your bedroom ceiling?

@calimom
yup, no bloodsucking going on with those supposedly nonexistent vampire bats that are all classified as being as far from extinct as possible

You are very wrong. Vampire Bats DO exist: They reside in Mexico and South America. lostinkorea has the pics of them.

Research usually does the trick...

That aside, the idea of a "bat-box" in the yard sounds like a great idea.

Actually, you can purchase a bat house to install on the side of your house - it takes about 3 years for it to be permanently occupied. We had one at our last house, and it was amazing - the bats would come out at dusk, feed on all the bugs they could find on our property, then fly off to find more food (bugs) before returning pre-dawn. There are only two different types of bats in North America - fruit bats, which pollenate much like bees do; and the bats that eat bugs. Contrary to popular belief, vampire bats as we know them, don`t exist - only our bug-eating bats consume any creature with blood in it.So I guess you could say we have vampire bats, if you count the bats that eat the bugs... You don`t need to be afraid of them, though -bats are extremely shy, and will only attack when threatened. They do carry rabies, though, so avoid being bitten by one (the best way to do that is to avoid contact with them - just enjoy them from afar.

I live about 2 blocks from the second largest Brown Bat cave in America. They are pretty harmless little creatures, I`ve held them in my hand quite a few times, and they`ve never tried to bite me.

They are protected here- you are not allowed to touch them.. very sweet things, why would you want to harm them?

That would have been awesome! I would have let them keep living in my roof as long as they weren`t getting inside.

They`re just like little mice with wings, and possibly rabies.

I had a lake shore home with a similar bat infestation. I bought pepper spray and filled the attic with its mist, then used foam fill to seal the tiny holes they flew out from.

Now if you installed the roof properly and put up some bat boxes for the poor things to roost in, you might enjoy not having so many insects around as a bonus.

**Checks insurance for rodent infestation. Yep, covered.** Bat_poo eats right through wood. I wonder what the inside attic looked like?

Think to self "Not sure if trolling or just stupid"

Finally understand. I`d be worried too if they kicked all my kids to the streets but then I wouldn`t let my kids squat on others` property.

@Insanity_Cow : Bats are not at risk of going extinct, a few of these dying will not affect the ecosystem at all.

Fun fact : Bats are the only flying mammal.
