@slut_etta
so you`re saying his being sober is good reason for him to not cooperate with a simple breathalyzer test that they were trying to offer him the entire video?

having been a drunk for many many years, i sincerely doubt that this guy was under the influence of alcohol. he is way too lucid and too well spoken to be drunk. not that i`m condoning drinking and driving or DUI in general, cuz i`m not. i`m just saying that in my vast experience of drunks and having been one myself, this guy doesn`t exhibit any of the usual signs.

@Lillian: That`s funny, about the resemblance to the IAB logo. I hadn`t noticed that. It helps. :)

@Squrlz4Sale - I totally would except I`ve had this same avatar since 2006 or 2007 and it`d feel really weird to post without my creepy sim`s face :<
Plus she`s kinda making a :| face like the IAB icon so I thought it was fitting.

Do they have rooms in police stations where coppers can go and scream at the walls for a while? If I was a copper, I`d want one. Be polite to raving racists like this guy...then go scream at the walls to let the frustation out. Be polite to violent thugs...then go scream at the walls to let the frustation out. Etc.

The police are like sewage farm workers - I`m glad some people are doing the job and I`m glad I`m not one of them.

In one case, I was stopped by the police while I was breaking into a flat. I was living there at the time (I was breaking in because I`d left my keys at work), but since I was subletting from an absentee landlord whose name was on all paperwork I couldn`t prove I was living there. Being polite and reasonable still worked fine. I was stopped by a local copper, who knew my neighbour, who vouched for me when the copper asked them. The copper used their experience and my behaviour, added it to the neighbour`s words and concluded that I was telling the truth. No problem. Had I been arsey about it, maybe they would have arrested me because me being arsey gave them cause to be suspicious.
If he was sober, he should have just taken whatever field test was offered, volunteered to wait for a breath analyzer unit, etc. While being as courteous and polite as possible.
I agree.

I`ve been stopped by the police at least a dozen times. I had and have a simple rule - be polite and reasonable. If they`re also polite and reasonable (as they were with me, every time), you`re on your way a few minutes afterwards and nothing unpleasant happens. If they`re arsey about it, you have a better case when you raise a complaint or bring legal action against them later. But if you`re arsey about it, it won`t go well. There`s no upside to being arsey at the police unless you live in a tyranny and you`re willing and able to start the revolution no matter what it costs you.

@LuckyDave
If what he`s saying is true, he may have a right to be pissed. It doesn`t give him the right to be an arse about it.

An officer is not required to give you a field breathalyser test if you appear to be under the influence. The officer can use any other field test. If you do not consent to any of the field tests, they will take you to where you can be tested. Add in the fact that this person is acting belligerent and uncooperative, and they`ll take him to be tested.

If he was sober, he should have just taken whatever field test was offered, volunteered to wait for a breath analyzer unit, etc. While being as courteous and polite as possible.

Acting like an idiot just wastes their time, your time, and taxpayer money.

@Scuzoid: I disagree with virtually everything you`ve written in your last post.

"This guy, provided he`s sober, isn`t an idiot." If this guy is sober, he most certainly *is* behaving like an idiot. If he`s sober, he could submit to the test, be cleared of the DUI suspicion, and put this whole unpleasant incident behind him in under an hour.

Instead, you seem to think he should start throwing punches in order to live up to some Macho Code of Conduct. Really? If he`s intoxicated or refuses the test, he`ll lose his license for a year. But he could get a WOL (Work-Only License) and live at least a somewhat normal, productive life during that period. Instead, you`d rather he end up in the penitentiary for a year, at taxpayer expense. Assuming he`s married and a father, how would that help his wife and kids?

C`mon! Listen to what the officer says. This guy refused a test and he was driving while suspended. Now he sobered up just enough to be a complete as*hole.

"and its valid."

My point isn`t that his disrespect is a valid means of fixing his situation, my point is this guy, provided he`s actually sober, isn`t an idiot. Assuming he`s sober, he`s looking for a fight, and once that camera shut off, he may have even found it. Doesn`t matter if you lose the fight as long as you`re willing to actually find it when you`re fed up.

I`m a white physically imposing male. I KNOW I don`t know what persecution feels like. I also know that once I`ve got a reason to fight for what I believe (Be it a physical fight or not), I`m not going to bury my head in the sand just because society says I shouldn`t be in "this" fight.

"That guy has every right to be mad if what he`s saying is true."

At least I`m not the only one who can see this.

Sorry, but you guys all sound like a bunch of pussies. I`ve gone off far worse on authority figures completely sober when I felt wrongly accused and in a pissy mood. Oddly enough, every time it has happened, it was the result of pussy.

This guy may be drunk, he may not, I don`t really care. What I do care about is how seemingly everyone here would rather avoid a few bruises or black eyes and instead take a mental or emotional beating. You guys need to grow a pair.

So...we tase and pepper spray pussy kids in Portland for protesting - and we practice restraint when confronted with drunk drivers who sound off like this.

Makes sense to me.

That guy has every right to be mad if what he`s saying is true. They never gave him a test, and he doesn`t sound drunk, he sounds pissed off. By the way the female officer was trying to evade the question about the breathaliser, I`m thinking he`s telling the truth.

Kudos to the officers for recognizing that, with the camera rolling, this man was his own worst enemy and to get him off the highways, all they had to do was be professional. And they did a great job of that. You go, guys!
