Still confused as to why me choicing to be gay and me being born gay makes a damn bit of difference. Why do I need to justify my sexuality? Maybe I DID choose. Still no one`s business. This is making us gays look bad. We`re gay. Deal with it.

I think every gay person has to answer this for themselves, because the answers will be different.

5Cats must be trolling.
It`s not about being "politically correct", it`s about being "blindingly ignorant". It`s an inborn trait.
Like the tides -- just because some people don`t understand doesn`t mean we can`t explain it.

people need to actually read the articles they post
she says it was "HER CHOICE" to be gay
not that everyone has a choice whether they are gay or not..

@Angilion "wouldn`t have chose that, not in those circumstances."

If you are going to use history to support your claims you should realize that humans throughout have done what they want regardless of repercussions. So your argument is hardly representative of their inner desires. Which you hardly have insight too so can`t really make claims on their behalf.
It isn`t that I necessarily disagree with you, just the way you are presenting your claims.
Gay men are a promiscuous as straight men wish they could be. Hell, who WOULDN`T want to be gay?
Massive over-generalisation on both counts.

History gives a good example. Even when homosexuality was utterly socially unacceptable and illegal, even when it was punishable by death, some people were homosexual. Obviously they wouldn`t have chosen that, not in those circumstances.
Sure, if you`re split down the middle 50/50 bisexual you can pick...but you`ll always miss the part you don`t pursue. Go for the weenies and you`ll miss the poontang and if you go muff diving you`ll long for schlong.

Bisexuals are rarely fulfilled {no pun intended}.
Somewhat true for me, but I`d quibble about "rarely". Successful monoamory isn`t *that* rare. A person who`s 100% hetero or homo would probably find at least a hundred million people sexually attractive if they met that many people, but may well be fulfilled with a monoamorous relationship. For a 50/50 bi, it would be a couple of hundred million instead of a hundred million, but that`s not necessarily a significant difference.

"meh if i we`re a woman i would choose to be gay too, i`m actually more surprised that women want to be straight"

If I was a guy, I`d "choose to be gay" if I could. Gay guys are the best. I`m not particularly surprised that guys don`t choose to be gay despite that, because it`s kind of not a choice.

Are people really missing the point. Choice or no choice it`s their RIGHT to do with themselves as they please in a relationship of their choosing. Religious folks who want to protect the "institute" of marriage should be fighting then to have marriage replaced with civil unions regardless of sex so that the churches act of marriage is separate. Until then gay couples have all the same rights to tax considerations and benefits as any other couple has but can only do so by marraige. The only real arguement against homosexuality is religious and thanks to religious freedom one or more religions don`t get to dictate how others live their lives.

Ugh, this old annoying argument again...

I`m a bisexual libertarian who`s predominantly straight but has enjoyed some homosexual experiences.

The sexual experiences you have during your life shape your sexuality as you grow older. Kind of like, you can`t become an alcoholic if you abstain from alcohol your whole life. The same goes for you can`t be a homosexual if you abstain from homosexuality your whole life. This is one reason social conservatives try so hard to suppress open homo/bisexuality. They are terrified that if their children "experiment" then they might be more likely to be gay. There is some truth to this as well, because if you view it as disgusting morally, then you`ll be less likely to try it out and find out if you enjoy it.

Some people feel like they always knew they were gay or straight. Others feel like they experimented and found what they liked. Either way, what difference does it make and why`s it a big deal?

Oh it is a choice though. If i choose so, and I have the money, I could probably pay a geneticist or brain surgeon to turn me gay. Gay people could probably reverse it. Just like religious people could pay to have their religion switch turned off. But it doesn`t change the fact that people are born that way.

A bisexual person, like Cynthia Nixon here, who is sexually attracted to both men and women can choose a heterosexual or homosexual relationship. Stop the presses! In other news, water is wet and bears poop in the woods.

the only homosexual to have the balls to say their lifestyle is a choice is a lesbian.

ironic.

Don`t you guys understand? Her whole point is how by choosing NOT to be gay, you`re actually admitting to being a closet homophobe! Just like how white girls who don`t date black guys are often enough attacked for being racist. It`s a super-liberal Hollywood bleeding heart tactic, don`t you see?

One of the comments which is probably the truth here..

"This shouldn`t upset anyone. It`s an odd way of saying "I`m a bisexual who identifies as gay" which is just fine."

Are either of us correct? Are either of us in line with the majority of your experiences when dealing with straight people?

I`m rather curious about the gay`s thoughts on my thoughts. Here`s the scenario:

So my sister works at a lbgt magazine. She`s straight, but spends the majority of her time doing publicity at lbgt events in one of the gayer cities in the US. Now, I can`t stand effeminate gay men. Going to get that out there. I don`t wish any malice or a worse life for them, I just don`t want to be anywhere near them. Mostly their voices are what get to me. So, with that said, I suggest to her "Don`t you HAVE to be slightly misogynistic to be a gay man?" and she responds, "Perhaps not misogynistic, but jealous, sure." Yet neither of us feel this way about lesbians. As far as we`re concerned, lesbians are that way because of a love for their own gender, rather than our determination that gay men, at least in some part, are frustrated haven been born the gender they are.

i wonder if she knows that she is actually BISEXUAL and not lesbian...

as that is the case it is a choice for her what gender she dates. many gay people however are not bisexual by nature and thus it is not a choice.

this lady needs to understand that and stop trying to make it seem like she is completely gay when in fact she is not.

Holy crap I actually agree with Auburnjunky on something. College is the reason the women`s percentage is so high. I mean seriously, who would want to sleep with a frat boy?

We came to the conclusion that probably 25% of gay women choose to be gay, while about 1% of gay men choose it.
