I always wonder when I see this (dog with head out window of car) whether or not there has ever been an accident and the dog gets decapitated.

    @Justin9235

You`ve obviously never owned a dog before. Some of them can be incredibly intelligent, I don`t really think this photo is true to be honest. I think it`s perfectly plausible that a dog can comprehend that you control a car.

Who`s to say that dogs cannot comprehend that you are in control? Dogs seem pretty capable of simple comprehension in other fields.

It`s only this whimsical for one of my dogs. The other dog just kind of rolls up in a doggy fetal position on the back seat and looks so depressed :(

I`m babysitting my dad`s dog right now. She`s had to have a lot of surgeries lately, so now she`s really terrified in the car. She shakes the whole time D: I don`t think she thinks "adventure box" is very fun :/

Dogs are good and all but I`d rather be a cat if I had a choice.

I`m pretty sure the dog will figure out that you`re doing something that effects what the car does. Pushing the pedals, turning the wheel, dogs are good at noticing that sort of thing.
Still, it`s probably true they have no clue about where you`re going.

...Kind of like saying if you put a dog in a travel kennel and carry it somewhere that the dog thinks it`s in some sort of magic carpet device with you walking beside it.

My dogs get out of the way of the car once my girlfriend gets in the car. She ran over one of her cats that liked to sleep under the back bumper. Clear winner in this intelligence test.

Can`t be much of a leap from "When human gets in car, car moves." to "Human makes the car move."

Assuming an average dog lives for 12 years and 10 years of that is spent active 5 days a week once a day yields 2600 doubling for a trip to and the trip back 5200 times you put them in a car and drive them somewhere. Whereas my dog when we play with a laser she looks at my hand and then down to the ground and will bark at me and repeat the whole dance until I shine it for her. 100% certain she knows I control that.

Our dog cries all the way to the front door when we`re leaving, so we cave and bring her with us, then she spends the entire drive whining and when you leave her in the car to go grocery shopping, I`ll stay with her and she whines and cries the entire time.

    .___.

I much prefer taking my cat in the car, she curls up in my laps and cuddles.

@5Cats, No, they won`t. They`re brains are not evolved enough to make those kind of intuitive cause/effect leaps. That`s why effective training methods rely on conditioned response and immediate reinforcement of behavior.

Ruffianadogs don`t have ours brains for sure but bthey have lot of things much more powerful, all their senses are 10X or more strong than ours and they have also one thing that we all was used to have... the instinc. So maybe they can`t uderstand exactly how we drive a car or how an engine work but for sure they know what we are doing, for sure they know that the car move cause of our actions.

They forgot to include the part where dog chews on your new shoes, proceeds to vomit in your car and then eats the same vomit again. Dog`s life, simple and a little disgusting.

Not all, no, and a large part of the reason why a dog has such a superb sense of smell is that most of its brain is devoted to smell. There`s not much brain for thinking with.

Having said that, I`m pretty sure a dog can understand that the car is being controlled by the person in the driver`s seat. They won`t know *how*, but they will be able to make the association.

Can`t be much of a leap from "When human gets in car, car moves." to "Human makes the car move."

Yeah, that sums it up neatly.

Dogs are just like people. They can be very smart on some topics but utterly stupid on other, simple matters.

My boxer could puzzle out how to turn a door knob to make a door open but could not figure out how to go down a staircase. ... stupid dog.

    loveable, but stupid.

Dogs are amazing animals and deserve as much love as they can get. Sometimes people dont realize that neglecting dog can be just as bad as abusing it. I have seen my neighbors beautiful labrador live for years in the back yard with no attention from its owners what so ever. An unsocialized dog is much more likely to bite a person than one who is around friendly humans all the time.

And the dog will always love you no matter what you do to. Both my dog and cat respond to the same commands. If I say go for a car ride, the cat beats the dog into the vehicle and hangs out the window on the same side. Are they our pets or are we theirs? I also have a grey parrot and rat that love car rides. WTF is with that? And if anyone cares. They all (and I mean all) sleep together on the couch

This is an aural joke, but I`ll try it in text.

Bob buys a puppy and calls it Duke. It`s friendly and vigorous, dashing about cheerfully. Like a lot of puppies, it likes to chew things.

Bob has an ugly old hat that doesn`t even fit properly. He wears it out of habit, even though it`s a bad hat.

One day, Bob didn`t put his hat on the hatstand properly and it fell off onto the floor in the hallway, where the puppy finds it. Of course, the puppy starts chewing it.

Sue, a friend of Bob`s, comes round to see Bob and the friendly, cheerful puppy she thinks is adorable.

She`s very surprised when the pup greets her with snarls and a threatening posture as soon as she opens the door.

    "Bob, what`s got into Duke?"

Bob sees his obviously chewed hat on the floor in front of Duke and replies

    "A bad `at `e chewed"
