Errrrmmmm ... I haven`t read it, obviously so it might be horribly bigoted inside, but this only says that one in ten Americans is black. Where is the racism?

Surely the really f*cked up thing is that someone can read this cover, immediately cry "racist" and not be laughed at.

I don`t get why this is "racist" - it is a sociological study about Black Americans from the time when Negro was the acceptable term and only 10% of the population was black (it is 15% now). Black Americans faced discrimination and segregation at the time this book was written and the author probably did a lot of research on the social conditions of Black Americans at the time.

This is clearly not a recent publication. Keep in mind that as recently as the `60s, using the term "negro" was considered the politically correct way to go. There is still nothing wrong with the word today, we just tend to use "black" or "African-Canadian".

At a glance, I`m going to go out on a limb and suggest that this is actually the exact opposite of racism and that it`s encouraging people to be more tolerant of negroes given that they were 10% of the population at the time. Hedkwab on the other hand is right on the borderline of racism. My money says his is the comment that starts a race-war-flame-war.

And next you`re going to say I should be paying black peoples electric bills, because it`s my ancestors fault that their ancestors got drated over, right?
(Not that my ancestors were actually here during the slavery period or anything.)

Theres nothing racist here. Most people think of negro as a bad term, its not. Just social stigma. Removing glorious etomology from the language.
