My car broke down. I think I`ll jog in traffic. Oh my god I got hit by a truck. You sir are a dumb ass. Cops are supposed to be honest. He was being honest. This guy was a dumb ass whose lucky to be alive. "I was horrified to find out the cops think I`m mentally retarded. I mean....I am...but that`s not the point"

It`s called gallows humor. It`s a way to deal with Horrific circumstances that often have life and death consequences. The point here should be that they showed up and saved his life.

there REALLY needs to be a better hiring process for cops AND they need to give them MUCH better training that does not turn them into para-military aholes that feel free to treat people like subhumans.

Often times they laugh because they are sadistic non-nice individuals.

This is true, sometimes they do...But more often then not,it`s just a way to relieve stress. If you`ve ever known many officers, you`ll find there is a high occurrence of them dating/marrying nurses and teachers... other people that have to regularly deal with high stress.

Blowing it out of proportion, this isn`t evidence of evil cops or anything.

Cops are pricks because of their job. If you had to deal with the worst of humanity day in and out, your sense of humor would be skewed and you might say things that are outrageous, it comes with compartmentalizing your emotions. (I work in a involuntary mental hospital, good people make awful jokes trust me)

I mean just the other day I read about a cop who crawled under a vehicle to comfort a woman who was trapped and these pricks are making fun of some guy who just got injured. These guys are pricks plain and simple. Here

Yesh. We grow up as kids, told to look up to the cops. Then our (or at least my) respect goes out the window, bit by bit, as these sort of incidents get caught on video. Not cool, copper. I`ve met a few cool police officers, but met many, many more jackholes that got into it because of a God complex.

Sometimes police blow off steam in seemingly inappropriate ways. Sometimes they laugh at things that most people would not, this is to keep from showing weakness, it is trained into them... THAT BEING SAID, they are also trained, as are paramedics to be careful of WHO they make these comments around. A slap on the hand is about all this guy deserves, possibly a verbal reprimand.

Come on guy`s, if you get abuse, violence, mangled bodies thrown at you at a regular basis becuase of your work you only survive if you manage to emotionaly distance yourself from it. and black humor is part of it, they didn`t insult the victim, they helped him, and then they joked amongst themselfs about it to release the tension.

Despite the fact that they really WEREN`T saving his life at the time, it looked like the ambulance was already hauling him away when they made the jokes.

@Rick: I watched it again, and I think you might be right.

Aside, to no one in particular: Great healthcare system this country has. After surviving a nearly fatal accident, your real work begins: Finding someone to sue so you can pay off the tens of thousands of dollars of medical bills your insurance company refuses to pay.

"If the accident victim only wants an apology, as the reporter says, then why did he hire an attorney?"

The impression I got was that the lawyer was to find out who was a fault in the accident, and had nothing to do with the police behavior. I think he wants to get money from the trucker and/or trucking company.

Black humour, for those who sweep up the carnage that occurs around us it stops them going insane...I do not care how much fun they choose to make of me as long as they are busy saving me at the same time....

I`m a little confused by the information that`s presented: If the accident victim only wants an apology, as the reporter says, then why did he hire an attorney? I`d be surprised if he`s paying for a lawyer out-of-pocket just to get a "We`re sorry" letter. My hunch is that this guy is now saddled with tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills (this is America, after all), and he`s looking into any and all possible ways to get compensation.

Police should be professional as best they can, but I realize (as should most people) that they`re human. Humans have opinions (like me.:D). The cops apparently had a personal feeling about jogging to work. Perhaps a feeling that was amplified by seeing (in their eyes) a direct result to back their claim. Was it in poor taste? Yes. Say "sowee" and move on. Nobody should see money from this.

The majority of people applying to be a peace officer are power hungry morons who can barely pass the asvabts to get into the military.

Why should anyone be surprised that cops are belittling the very people who pay their salaries?

I have respect for maybe 3 out of 10 police I meet. The rest are self righteous aholes who think wearing a badge gives them power over people.

I called the police this morning in Delaware...at 9AM due to illegal activity happening outside of my business.

Guess what time they showed up?

They didn`t.

Big deal. We`ve all done it. Move on, nothing to see here.

@Gerry

That doesn`t mean you can simply throw manners and taste out the window for cheap humor. All the patient did ask for was an apology.

And . . . ?

The cop showed up. He did the work he`s supposed to do.
So what if he made a comment over to the side where the
jogger couldn`t hear it? We`ve all said things at work about
coworkers or customers. My advice...

GET OVER IT!
