Time Magazine Names Its Person Of The Year [Pic]

Submitted by: hole_rocks89 5 years ago in

Meh, it was a smart, safe choice, but I personally like it when they name an individual--not a collective group.

@duffy: iirc it was the mid-late 80s. After Time went whole-hog against Reagan, and he swept the re-election, and then the Soviet Union disbanded, Time never recovered.
They just kept up the same pro-left line, even though the rest of the USA had gotten tired of it. Oh sure they still sell copies, but relevance? Long gone.

yeah, yeah - When did TIME magazine stop being relevant? Any of you older IAB`ers remember? Was it mid-eighties, or did it make it clear into the nineties?

Hopefully there`s a mention of the Tea-Party and their influence in the defecit "crisis", subsequenet downgrade of US credit rating, and making every American aware of how non-functional our government has become because of special-interest influence.

So, thanks for that.

As I`m such a steadfast supporter of OWS and because I have been to Occupy San Diego...
This makes me TIMEs Person of the Year.

[applause applause applause]

Thank you, thank you for this honor.
I totally deserve it.

Time Mag is not afraid to name contriversal people, the once named Hitler.

it is not an honor or an award. it simply means the person/organization they name had a huge immpact on the world that year, good or bad.

Hey, at least the Arab Spring movement managed to replace their brutal and oppressive military dictatorships with brutal and oppressive Islamist dictatorships. :->

Why is it upsetting? Cause they have to go through more crap than us? A protest is a protest, and I don`t think there is anything wrong with comparing a protest to another.

It pisses me off that the equate the Arab Spring with the occupy idiots.

"Lumping self centered cry babies in with the brave men and women of the Arab spring who actually put there lives on the line? Shame on you Time."

Eh, just because they weren`t putting their lives on the line, doesn`t mean that their cause wasn`t just. Besides, the article explaining Time`s choice talks about global public dissension, not that people put their lives on the line.

Cover yourself. Your ignorance is showing.

There is absolutely no moral or intellectual equivalence between the two.

auburnjunky: actually, the occupy movement has gone globa, so there`s a valid conmparison. America isn`t the only country whose citizens voting power is being diminished by corporate and political corruption.

It is truly sad to see that all these are lumped together...you go OWS, we all respect your bravery in the face of life-threatening adversity...

Weird, it worked for me no problem.
I`m actually surprised its not Steve Jobs
I`m not. It`s person of the year, not decade or century, and all he did this year was release more products which he does every year. Dying doesn`t make you man of the year.

And that person is "This Page Can`t Be Found", a popular internet celebrity that gets millions of hits per day, especially on days when IAB mods don;t pay attention to what is being posted.
