I can`t believe the people so buttfrustrated that comedians actually get paid. It`s a legitimate career, and infinitely more difficult than acting, and look what actors get paid. Difference there is actors have their lines given to them and all kinds of retakes. When you`re up on stage, people heckle you at the drop of a hat. You`re telling jokes that you came up with and practiced,[unless you`re stealing another comedian`s joke, which never flies well.] and you have one shot to deliver it or it ruins the joke.

Here`s a great comedian who released over an hour of jokes for five bucks. When it`s that reasonable, piracy arguments start faltering. You do not HAVE to watch this if your ass is that broke. I`d love to see Louis do this more often for this price, I think this is the kind of poo we should be supporting, not pissing on.

@Aints: LMAO! I`m old? That`s your best shot? Jeez. I suppose you don`t aspire to getting any older and intend to stay young and stupid forever. As General Manager of the Universe I guess you have the choice! You could always kill yourself at 30 if you think being over 50 is some kind of handicap. Lame, Dude.

@burbclaver "As a previous defender of freedom, I thought you`d appreciate that - or maybe you were in the Taliban military,"

Well maybe you`re lying about being in the military and you`re Bin Laden`s praying partner...see how that game is played? Ejit.

If you have a counter opinion do try and be a bit more articulate than `bollocks`.

There is some interesting reading under IABs Copyright Policy
For example:
"I-am-bored.com respects the copyrights and other intellectual property rights of others and requests that the people who use its services do the same."

And this is cute too:
"Termination for Violation of Policy

It is our policy to terminate in appropriate circumstances an Account or the access rights of a subscriber for repeated copyright infringement, and we also reserve the right to terminate a subscriber for even one instance of infringement."

JUST SAYIN`

Louis is funny, he`s being straight-forward, and he`s trying something different with this DL approach. I respect that. That, and all the money goes straight to him, not some distributors, and it`s only $5, unlike any DVD or download you find out there. Well done, Louis. Guys, just buy the thing if you wanna see it!

He`s only charging $5, you f*cks. I like Louis CK so if I see the special I`m going to pay the five dollars. It`s cheap, he`s doing something different, and it`s with his own company. If you want more Louis CK, pay the $5. He`s not some corporation. He`s just one funny guy.

@Aints: Ah, so finally I have met the general manager of the universe! The person who decides that his own contribution to society is worthwhile, but thinks the business of anybody he judges unworthy can be destroyed. I don`t like this comedian either, but what he does is legal and liked by many who see a value in what he does. As a previous defender of freedom, I thought you`d appreciate that - or maybe you were in the Taliban military,

burbclaver, most people are caught between two ideals, getting paid for work done, and the idea that knowledge and art should inherently be free for the betterment of society as a whole. When I wonder what the renaissance would have been like if Shakespeare had put income over art, I tend to go with the latter.

Much as you seem to think that piracy is killing art, I say it`s improving it. Now we get to see artists who are in it for the love, not for the coin. Now the quality of our art goes up.

@burbclaver Oh I know! I worked hard my entire life. I work hard now, I served in the Army, 4 damn years! Let someone try to take away my cash.. Its not going to happen, you know why? Because my work is relevant to the modern economy. Who gives a fat fu** if a comedian isn`t getting paid enough. Truth is, that should be his part time job. I`m going to pirate his stuff now just to delete it!

As someone who regularly has their work pirated, I`d like to say drat all you pirates who claim to be too broke to pay a fair price for something. This isn`t a victimless crime against some faceless corporation as some of you think. How`d you like it if you did a fair day`s work and then someone told you they weren`t paying you, because they couldn`t afford it? Much as I think this comedian is unfunny, I believe he has the right to be paid and he did his best to make his work available at a reasonable price. It`s never cheap enough for you though, is it? Don`t complain when the only jobs left are pizza delivery. As for Fancylad, this post isn`t unusual in that many links disappear from IAB for copyright infringement, but this one was happily acknowledged as piracy in the link title. That`s disappointing.

Even if I really liked this dude, I wouldn`t pay for it.. Sorry. He makes me laugh? Cool.. So do some guys at work. Fu** comedians, go fu** off to the rest of you saying how this is "not cool".. Comedians deserve LOW wages and LOWER pay for "tours". So what if someone can make you laugh?? Comedians understand it, they are to be laughed at and not taken seriously because they know there "career" is a joke! (see what I did there, see it?) Go cry to your moms about a dumb man getting screwed over a little cash for a stupid career off the internet, bi**es...

If you don`t know louis c.k., you can check out any of his other stuff on youtube. Five dollars is not a ridiculous price. The day this came out I spent that money and Louis earned it with the first joke, worth every penny. He is one of my favorite stand up comedians, and he`s just trying to move up with the times and make a little money. With all the laughs he`s given me, five dollars is absolutely nothing.

"It is true that my not throwing trash on the ground will not stop littering. But for littering to be eradicated, I must not throw trash on the ground."
It doesn`t matter to me that Fancy only linked to something that was up anyway. I`m not going to launch into an argument about why I think it was so wrong, because no one is going to be convinced in an IAB comment thread. However, I`ve been on IAB since damn near the beginning, and never once found occasion to comment. I took issue with some things, but I didn`t expect to be pleased all of the time. This is different. It is with a heavy heart that I leave IAB for good. I know it doesn`t mean anything, but it`s the only way to truly show my disapproval.

Fancy, I know there`s no chance anything will change your mind about this, my views included. I only hope that having lost a reader will give you pause.

Thanks for all the entertainment over the years.

there is a difference between stealing and watching this, I would never have bought this anyways, louis ck didn`t lose any money from me watching it.

If you were gonna buy it then go ahead and buy it

If you were not gonna buy it then watch it here because louis ck wasn`t gonna make any money off you anyways.

also, "It`s arguably not as bad as pirating some $30 movie since it`s only $5 so he`s not out as much money"
actually he`s out more money. Since he put out all the money to do this himself he get`s the $5 directly but assumes all the risk. If he had gone through a production company then they would have assumed the risk but would have charged $30 and Louis probably wouldn`t have even received $5 per purchase.

Lillian - i meant wrong in what you said, not wrong in your actions.

Also, saying that Fancy didn`t host the video so he`s not at fault is incorrect. SubstanceD pointed this out already but i`ll repeat. This wasn`t a searchable link. It was a private link on youtube. If you think Fancy is not in the wrong for posting the link then answer me this... How would someone have watched the video had they not been given the link by IAB?

@BlankTom - How am I wrong? I didn`t watch it. I didn`t have any desire to watch it (and still don`t, so I`m not going to be searching for it free nor will I be buying it). I just don`t see how pirating this is different from pirating anything else. It`s arguably not as bad as pirating some $30 movie since it`s only $5 so he`s not out as much money. And I don`t see how Fancy`s at fault, considering Fancy didn`t upload it.

SubstanceD, It`s really a loosing battle. People like Fancy and Lillian, at least i hope, understand what you`re saying but they won`t admit to being wrong. So basically they`ll just gripe on one or two things you say in your post and ignore everything else. It`s the internet... what can you do?

I do think that a majority of people agree with you (with rare exceptions.) Louis already posted on his site that this was a success and it looks like very few people actually stole his work. So, yes, IAB is in the minority by doing what they did.

I think Louis will continue to succeed with this as you`d have to be pretty pathetic to steal something worth $5 when it`s for such a "noble" cause. Look at DrProf... he bout it when all he had was $25 to his name!

I bought it earlier, so the order confirmation screen is gone--and there`s nowhere on the site where I can view a proof of purchase. I resized it so that it wouldn`t be huge on the page. I`m also understandably unwilling to post a screencap of my online bank statement, so you`ll just have to take it on faith.

We`re talking about the ethics of pirating this particular set. Not about the bloated movie industry, or even the game industry (I never pirate games, just look at my steam account http://tiny.cc/we4ut).

We`re talking about this, in the way it is distributed, in all it`s fairness. The way things should work is like this. By making a decision to not spend $5 and instead pirate THIS, you are saying "Actually, I would rather spend $30 on a DVD, which a tiny fraction goes to the artist, than to give an artist $5 directly to get quality, new material that I can use however and whenever I want"

That is the point. It`s support of fair and equal distribution, not piracy is innately evil.

I refuse to let the overwhelming anger of this thread make me feel bad for watching and laughing at this post. It`s not like Fancy went and uploaded it to YouTube for the masses. It was there, he linked it and you watched it or you didn`t. You can`t be a proud pirate and scream about "it`s only $5 and he funded the entire project himself, blah blah" without revealing yourself as an utter hypocrite.

You asked for a screencap...you can even see the tab with this IAB post up in the corner.

Though I guess photoshop makes it impossible to legitimize photos over the internet.

*massiveshrug* I tried. I`m still just geeked that someone in the industry is taking a step in the right direction.

I don`t really care that this post showed up on IAB, since it was already on the internet and being viewed by other people. In fact, seeing the video sent me (and hopefully others) to the site to buy the thing.

...so stop yelling at Fancy, I guess. If you`re against pirating this material, then go buy it. If there`s no line you`ll draw to where you refuse to torrent something on moral grounds, for shame. Either way, the actions of other site-goers aren`t the responsibility of the poster.

@SubstanceD - I still don`t see wtf`s the big deal. This was going to happen anyway no matter if Fancy posted it here or not. People who are fans of this guy will buy his comedy show or w/e. People like me who have no idea what it`s about might have watched it for free if we thought it might be interesting (I have no idea what it`s about still) and seeing the low price, if we enjoyed it we may have bought it. It`s only $5 so it`s not like he`s out a huge amount of money for this and blaming Fancy when he didn`t even upload it is kind of lame.

@LillianDulci You don`t get it, piracy isn`t the point. I pirate stuff all the time, movies and TV shows mostly. But this was paid for by the man himself, all proceeds got to him, he`s making it available worldwide for the low sum of $5 and not putting it behind any DRM, no ads, no restrictions to how you use your copy.

Real pirates fight for stuff like this. Super Meat Boy has no DRM and pirates purchased that like it was going out of season, radiohead`s 2007 album had a pay what you want scheme, and again it was seen and praised as the future.

If this was a DVD rip, something that costs $30, had DRM and restrictions all over it and was only available in America, then everyone here complaining wouldn`t care.

We care, and we are mad because it is so fair, so right and the way things should be done, honestly, with his fans and the community as the ones who win. But some people still want to mess it up.

I can understand pirating movies that are complete BS and cost an arm and a leg to attend, or music that is overrated and overpriced at best, but this is an hour of quality comedy for five freaking dollars! You suck, pirates.

You merely embedded a public link you knew was going against the grain of the community. Oh wait, did you say public link? It wasn`t available just via searching, it was a private video, only available to those with the link. I`m more inclined to believe iab uploaded it with the amount of hits and votes it had while it was up (which was very little).

As far as I`m aware 2 youtube hostings have been bought to light and they were taken down only when CK was told via twitter.

Also, this website isn`t the enitre internet, people aren`t posting all over the web about this, this is not good press. It`s just a bad decision on a mediocre link aggregator.

I agree with BlankTom though, issue an apology, admit you were wrong, don`t to it again. At least try to make it right.

For everyone who says LCK was doing something great by airing his special for the low, low price of $5, I agree--it was great of him. I-A-B however did not bootleg or host said special. It merely embedded a public link that someone else posted--who knows who posted it.

There`s a rumor that Louis CK himself (or his management) posted it on YouTube to generate an online buzz only to pull it down before it took a big bite out of paying customers. Looks like it worked.

A huge douche IMO, people don`t realise they`re not awesome by themselves, it`s the audience, subscribers or hits that make them awesome. Alienate enough people and websites can die.

There were enough complaints and enough down-votes to see that it wasn`t going over well. And then to not take it down and say "I`m keeping it up casue you`re all cheap bastards" is a slap in the face.

For shame. Someone needs an ego re-adjustment and not to become the next ebaums world.

Louis set up a format that is the most watchable, in the most formats. He was warned not to, but did it anyway. Then, he set it up for download from his site for only $5. I always said, I wouldn`t pirate stuff if these guys charged a reasonable amount for it. Well, $5 is more than reasonable. I bought a copy and it`s funny as heck. You guys should support this effort and pay for it if you want to see it.

To those who might wish to "torrent" this video: look, I don`t really get the whole "torrent" thing. I don`t know enough about it to judge either way. But I`d just like you to consider this: I made this video extremely easy to use against well-informed advice. I was told that it would be easier to torrent the way I made it, but I chose to do it this way anyway, because I want it to be easy for people to watch and enjoy this video in any way they want without "corporate" restrictions.
Please bear in mind that I am not a company or a corporation. I`m just some guy. I paid for the production and posting of this video with my own money. I would like to be able to post more material to the fans in this way, which makes it cheaper for the buyer and more pleasant for me. So, please help me keep this being a good idea. I can`t stop you from torrenting; all I can do is politely ask you to pay your five little dollars, enjoy the video, and let other people find
