Almost 9 years, $1 Trillion spent, 4,486 American military deaths, 32,226 seriously wounded. At least it"s over now.

@OldOllie

We didn`t have a debate. All I did was respond to some grumpy 50-something who apparantly decided to act like his shoe size by painting everyone else as liars, idiots, and terrorist sympathizers. If that`s the way you prefer to debate then I have some advice for you, courtesy of Jon Stewart.

Bullwank and f*ck you. Not what I said. When the US invades every place that has a brutal dictatorship, I`ll concede. But you won`t support the invasion of Zimbabwe, or North Korea, or China, or numerous other states, becuase you`re afraid of the consequences. Iraq was an easy target. Easily bullied.

Still, I await the discovery of those WMDs in Iraq, which most of will not forget was the justification for the war in first place. After what they did to us in 9-11, those Iraqi terrorist Al-Quaeda supporting bastards.

Right?

"You seem to think that we should wait until AFTER a terrorist attack before we defend ourselves."

I know, I know, it seems like lately I only pop up uninvited to pick on Oldie, but you have to admit that he asks for it sometimes...
I see no reason why that sentence couldn`t be aplied to "them". "They" shouldn`t have to wait for an attack either. Congratulations, you`ve justified 9/11, amongst other things. Neat.

OldOllie, you`re an old gas bag. Your arguments are too simple, like your mind. First, Afghanistan became a threat soon as the Taliban openly admitted they were harboring Bin Laden. The US even gave them an opportunity to turn him over before the bombs began to fall.

As for Iraq, Saddam was NEVER, I repeat, NEVER a threat to the US. He was too smart a man to ever get involved with the US after the Gulf War. After unsuccessfully attempting to course Saddam into a war the GW Bush administration simply lied to get everyone else on board with their secret plan to "get" Saddam for putting a hit out on GHW Bush during or shortly after the Gulf war.

If you believe anything else, you`re just a simple sheep who`s been left in the pasture.

No, it was about liberal stupidity. You said Iraq wasn`t a threat. My question to you is, at what point in time before 9/11/2001 did Afghanistan become a threat? You seem to think that we should wait until AFTER a terrorist attack before we defend ourselves.

If I tell you over and over again that I want to kill you, will you give me one free shot at close range before you do anything to stop me?

@AJ: tl;dr? Seriously? Here`s a tip: CTRL+F then type "mission" (without the quotes) was that so hard?

@Crakrjak: All possibly valid points against Rumsfeld. Too bad it`s just another one of your classic red herrings. He admitted in a DoD press release that "Mission Accomplished" WAS a part of the speech. Do you have proof otherwise other than to spout your opinion that he`s lying or whatever?

Musuko: The `something` I was mentioning was the Iraq war, don`t be obtuse.

patchgrabber: Rumsfeld is a known braggard and I believe his decisions on Iraq caused us to be there much longer than we needed to. The biggest mistake Rumsfeld made, was to disband what was left of the Iraqi army. Those ex-soldiers instantly joined the resistance, tripling the problem.

"Bush`s speech had references to "Mission Accomplished" until Rumsfeld edited it, they just forgot about the banner."

Who told you that, Rumsfeld?

"You DO realize that Fox News has had the majority of the ratings for quite a while now, right? Blame your rightie news organization for dropping the ball then."

They have reported on Fox the very thing that 5cats said. Also, just because it wins in ratings, does not mean it`s mainstream. It is an alternative view that is popular with the people.

Thank God for election years. He may have done it too soon, though. Because there`s a good chance that Iraq`s hand selected tin-pot president and his keystone cop army will lose control of the country to Islamic fundamentalists by November, then Iraq becomes nothing but another Vietnam. BTW- nice job by whoever wrote the caption of not mentioning the 500,000 Iraqi civilians killed in the war. That`s why everyone loves us.

White House said it was at the request of the Navy, but they`re the ones that hung it up. Also the original form of Bush`s speech had references to "Mission Accomplished" until Rumsfeld edited it, they just forgot about the banner.

"it`s only been declared over so that Obama can claim victory over something he never supported in the first place."

Do you listen to yourself when you speak?

He`s claimed "victory" over the enemy in Iraq. So...you`re saying he can`t claim victory over the enemy because he never supported the enemy in the first place?

Technically true (I hope), but I don`t think that`s what you meant to say (I hope).

@shannons- like the article states theres still two US bases in iraq. Just like The United states has bases everywhere else on the planet. People in iraq just have the bad luck of being stationed in a nation that makes it abundantly clear they are not welcome there.

Well, Ollie, always good to be informed that I`m lower than a turd-licker. I am one of those leftist commie libtards, after all.

Well, we`re finally pulling out of Iraq. At least we found those pesky WMDs that was Bush`s justification for the war in the first place. Right? And after what those Iraqis did to us at 9-11, they had what was coming to `em. Yep. All those Iraqis.

Whatever. At least it`s over and the troops are out. The whole thing was a fiasco, never should have happened in the first place, but at least some people will stop dying now (on both sides) where they otherwise might have lived.

Now, if you`ll excuse me, I have to go find a turd to suck.

I can`t believe anyone is complaining about this or finding fault with it.
If he didnt` bring them home you`d be bitching about that, no doubt.

Why do you really hate him? Not policy, because no matter what policy he follows you fault it, even when it`s a policy you like. So what is it really. . . could it be? No! Not that! It`s not because he`s . . . mormon?

Davy, that banner wasn`t put there by Bush, and it didn`t say "Victory in Iraq." It was put there by the captain of the USS Abraham Lincoln to honor his crew for accomplishing THEIR mission.
