I cannot figure out why so many commenters focus on him mentioning Hitler. The point, regardless of his analogies, or those of others he was explaining, is that the people have a right to speak to their government and the government is obligated to address our grievences and this clip is just one of many popping up every day where our constitutional rights are infringed upon because the corrupt cannot possibly answer for their actions so they use strongarm tactics, pass laws violating rights and doing whatever they can to save their asses.

@auburnjunky -- I couldn`t agree more. It make me shiver when progressives called Bush "Hitler," and it makes me shiver now when conservatives call Obama "Hitler." It is such a stupid argument; based only on hyperbole, the shock value that it`s supposed to garner has long since dissipated.

Why didn`t the Chair just let him finish? He had less than 90 seconds left in his time. Connections to Hitler were silly and hurt the priest`s argument, but his inability to make a solid argument was outdone by the poor judgment of the Chair. Fails, all around.

I can agree that comparing a council who regard themselves too highly to a man who caused the death of millions of innocent people is silly and a little childish... I can`t say I agree to this man being told to stop.
I didn`t see how well that hitler speech went but this man was being quite calm and he was only stating that the previous issue should of be addressed before it was dismissed. They should of just explained why the last was kicked out and let the people decide if they was in the right or wrong.

Oh the seperation of church and state? The only part of church in the whole thing was his white collar. I agree church and politics should be apart but only if the church is bringing in religious beliefs to it.

Also the man looks like Obi-Wan.
Anyway, what the hell was up with that dumb B**** woman at the end? She`s a mad brah because he made a damn good point?
Actually, she walked out in protest at the violation of the priest`s First Amendment rights. She was on his side.

Did seem to me like he stood there for the rest of his time and then removed himself of his own will. They did interrupt his ability to continue speaking as he planned too though.

I think the officers are to blame a little in this incident. They should have enough understand of the law and the proceedings to know when a speaker is in the right and should have refused to even stand to confront the reverend. They imposed a feeling of authority when there shouldn`t have been any in that situation. A clear abuse of power and i applaud the reverend for standing there and not getting intimidated.

Also we don`t know the background here, maybe what he says doesn`t hold up. However, with things the way they are down there, it probably does.

"While I agree he wasn`t out of order, and that he shouldn`t have been removed, I do believe that comparing the council to Hitler is insulting and demeaning."

So it`s not okay when a priest does it to a city council chairman, but it`s okay when a political party does it to a president?

Can`t remember how many times I heard Nancy Pelosi call Bush Hitler.

Yeah, I`m pretty sure it was meant to be, and I`m pretty sure from this display that THEY DESERVED IT. How is that justification for tossing them out?

So you`re saying that in the face of abuses of power we must... remain polite and respectful? No, this douchebag on his throne deserves neither because he has shown none to his oath of honor.

I don`t think the cops would have survived long in their jobs had they assaulted the priest. This is still a Christian nation, you don`t get away with messing with priests.

The cops either A) were respectful to a holy man

or

B) couldn`t physically touch him

That priest had some balls, comparing the councilman to hitler like that.

I don`t care what side or issue this was originally about, It`s wrong to silence silence a speaker at an open city council meeting like this.

As long as someone isn`t profane, insulting or demeaning they have a right to free speech in America. I hope he sues them and wins.

Even when I think he`s an idiot for having such
a barbaric set of believes, you know, spiritually;
I`d defend that man and protect his right to do
what he was doing... Pretty well said too

I found this news link

Got to love that they brand him an "activist". Is that what they call you when you take an active interest in your government these days?

Bravo to that man and the lone councilwoman who also thought that they were stifling free speech.

I`m curious exactly what law he was supposedly in violation of that the cops there thought they could charge him with? He certainly wasn`t being unruly, and if it`s offensive to say "I disagree with you and I think you made the wrong decision" then they might as well do away with letting people talk at all. If someone knows, please let me know!

It doesn`t matter if he pays taxes. Taxes are not a prerequisite for Constitutional rights.

The company he works for does not pay taxes, but he as an individual DOES pay taxes. Income tax and Sales tax and if he buys a house property tax. He has as much right to speak as any other citizen of that regime.... aperantly none, that is.

funny thing is that many courts have upheld that seperation of church and and state is highly implied by the language of the document you bring into question.

it is clear that the two are to remain separate and SHOULD.

the problem here is not that he was told to shut up and leave...though that is a problem.

the real problem is very evident when you see how EMPTY that room was. how the hell do people hold their government accountable when NO ONE pays any attention to them?

fellow Americans, you are a lost an apathetic people on the whole. you ignore the going ons of the elected officials and allow them to take away one liberty after another and all that matters to you is what you can buy with money you dont have and sitting on your overweight asses while you complain about your little lives.

in ten years this country will be a full police state and you will remember a few of us warned that it was coming.

Also, for the final time, THERE IS NO SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE! The only thing in the Constitution that says ANYTHING about religion, is the establishment clause, which prevents the government from having a state religion.

"Keep your god out of government `lest my government tax your god!"

He is still a tax paying private citizen. He gets a salary from the church, and he pays taxes on it.

...But (cmon its me)

This dude`s workplace does not pay taxes. He has no say over what his city council does. Keep your god out of government `lest my government tax your god!

Good for the priest. Years ago, as a newspaper reporter covering three small CT towns, I saw this kind of stuff all the time: local officials who decided the Bill of Rights didn`t apply to anyone who disagreed with them. The only way to prevent those rights from being steadily eroded is to push back on occasion. The priest earns my respect big-time.
