Im an atheist and i celebrate christmas. Everything that is christmas, including the date, and excluding the birth of that guy 2011 years ago, is pagan anyway.

Guys - Jesus was born into a Jewish family. This makes perfect sense.

There`s no reason why Jewish people can`t or shouldn`t celebrate Christmas. The Christmas we know today has been Americanized; it has very little of its former Christian and Pagan roots. Hell, my family is atheist and we still celebrate Christmas--it`s my favorite holiday!

There`s no reason Jewish people shouldn`t celebrate. Whether you`re Jewish, Muslim, Christian--if you don`t celebrate Christmas, you`re a very repressed individual. You probably also hate laughter and pretty ponies.

@5Cats - Fact check on your dates:

Mark: 65-73 CE (probably the earliest gospel)
Matthew: 70-100 CE (probably the second earliest)
Luke: 80-100 CE (probably third)
John: 90-110 CE (probably last)

(source)

So, you have their chronology exactly backwards.

Matthew & Mark: Written later in 1st century (90ad or so), Pilot plays big role.
Luke, John: Written middle of the 1st century(60 or 70 ad), Pilot`s not a big deal.

Further to what @Angilion said:

I read that the 3 Gospel accounts (John skips over it apparently) differ greatly in Pilot`s role: Going from hardly mentioning him to the whole "Give us Barabus" thing. Also: the older the Gospel, the less role Pilot plays.

Thus the last Gospel, which is furthest away from the actual time of Christ (and thus more influenced by "revisionist history" and other cultural factors) says Pilot was a big player.

Here`s a Roundup not what I read, but has links!

Oldollie, if it were in Israel it wouldnt be in English. It would most likely be in Hebrew or Arabic.

Again, the product and label are not at all offensive, but Buidah and Cajun247 are a little. However, I have yet to know a fellow Jew to be easily offended.

How `bout just incredibly oblivious - don`t expect the country in which this was produced to know the distinction.
The Roman`s killed him. Crucifixion was a Roman punishment, the judge who condemned him was a Roman (who didn`t like Jews, for that matter)... The list goes on. The Jews may not have believed his claims, but they didn`t kill him.
Given that there`s no evidence of it happening, nobody really knows what happened. But if you go with the account in Christian writings, the only account that exists, he was killed because local leaders (who were, obviously, Jews) accused him of being a cause of trouble for the Roman empire. Which he was, as he was stirring up religious division and conflict in an imperial province that wasn`t very stable. So if it happened at all and if it happened that way, the blame rests on SOME Romans and SOME Jews. All of whom, obviously, are long dead and thus irrelevant to the present.

Not nearly as anti-semetic as IAB... at least the left half of IAB`s commentors.

Hey! If you want to put these up on your Christmas tree, go for it!

Thats just it, no one is picking on me, and there is nothing you can do to stop me. I involve myself, posting my points, and reposting rebuttles where necessary. You seem to have the wrong idea as to why I am here.

"And somewhere along the way I hope he takes off the stupid-colored glasses.

No one is wearing colored glasses unless you are talking about your optics of ignorance. You see, the Romans may not have been Jewish, but the Jews were well imbedded into their government. It was the Jews that suggested he be hunted down. It was the Jews who suggested that type of death penalty. It was just the Roman government and Judge that gave into the pressure from the Jewish community...

Next!!!

So you see, how little you really know?

Funny how when faced with points that do not appeal to your sense of ignorance, people want to yell troll.

"Hanuka is a celebration of a miracle of having enough fuel for light in a sacred temple that had been laid to ruins in a battle. "

Gee, religion and war in the same sentence, who would have thunk it.

I know they dont celebrate the day they killed him, goddamn you people are dense.

If you arnt mourning a dead man on Christmas, then you are worshiping the baby of a dead man, which does not make it any less weird....

@Steelgrid, Christians don`t mourn Jesus on Christmas, that`s more around Easter, and those other springtime, death-related Christian holidays. As for Jews on Christmas, the usual cliche is that they enjoy Chinese food with the Buddhists.

As for this post, not insensitive. Insensitive is putting a "Celebrate Chanukah" sign next to a prok roast.

and steel grid, they dont celebrate the day they killed a man. they dont acknowledge his alleged role in spiritual history. Hanuka is a celebration of a miracle of having enough fuel for light in a sacred temple that had been laid to ruins in a battle.

Well its neither. If its sold in stores, which obviously it is, then its Corporate Christmas, in which case it has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with business, so not anti Semitic. As for the insensitive, the Jews killed Christ, its a victory for them, so they Celebrate the day where some people are mourning a dead man. Not insensitive, party time!!!
