So they don`t exist because they used to be part of an empire. Does that mean the Turkish are an invented people? What about the Irish? And if Palestinians don`t exist because the place wasn`t a country in its own right then wouldn`t the same be said about Arabs, since there is no country called Arabia?

Those of you who continue to claim that Palestine never existed, I offer you:

    This map.

    This map. (from 1883)

    This map. (circa 1886)

    Yet another map.

The Balfour Declaration indicates that the area was referred to as Palestine in the early 20th century.

CrakrJak your video does not prove that Newt is correct, but it points to a different, yet serious, problem. Palestinians have lived there under the Ottomans, Jordans, and now partly Israel and partly Hezbollah. The latter are in dire straights no thanks to the money (foreign aid) we give to their leaders and the Israelis excersing Emminent domain.

Cajun: It was only in the 1970s that the term `palestinians` came into being, in truth they are arabs.

If they don`t like the treatment the Israelis give them they could move to Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, or some other arab nation. Instead, they stay and wage a continuous war of eradication on the Jews.

Wow, it takes balls to say that...but he`s absolutely right.

"Palestinian" is not a race. The myth that there is a race of people called "Palestinian" is just to terrorize the Israelis and make it seem like they`re trespassing. The terrorists near Israel use the word "Palestinian" to describe the people that will wipe out the Israelis and form a new country once they`re gone. When people that don`t know too much about the conflict say "Palestinian", they`re thinking of "Arabs".

Strictly speaking, "Palestinians" are people that come from the Palestinian Territories.

Therefore, the the only people that are Palestinians are people from Israel.

[quote">It was only in the 1970s that the term `palestinians` came into being, in truth they are arabs. [/quote">

Obviously you`ve never bothered looking at Osira`s maps.

Secondly, Arab like Christian is nothing more than an umbrella term. There are Jordanians, Egyptians, Persians (Iranians), Iraqis, Palestinians etcetera. The Palestinians heritage dates back before the Ottomans. Moving them will not solve the problem as it will the problem back to the border strikes of 1948. The real solution is to cut foreign aid going to this region.

wow, that is incredibly ignorant and insensitive.. The term palestinian was invented then, yes, but saying that the people described by that term are invented as well is just stupid.. It`s true, there was no official nation of palestine before, but that doesn`t mean there didn`t live any people there.. The whole situation is often depicted as if noone lived there at all until 1917, which is completely false..

osira`s maps, as has already been noted, mention the region known as `Palestine` which was part of the Ottoman empire and those people were known as `Ottomans` not palestinians.

We have regions in America too, The rockies, the appalachians, The corn belt, etc.. Yet we don`t call people from those areas rockians, corn belters, or appalachianers now do we ?

And that goes for other areas too, I`ve yet to hear of a people called alpians, outbackers, nilians, etc..

a region name on a map doesn`t give name to the people living there.

Bull5h17 otherwise Illinoisan wouldn`t describe you.
    Try making these comparisons:
    Honshu-Hokkaido
    Tibet-Qamdo
    Siberia-Caucasia
    Persia-Arabia

Run comparisons between the examples you gave and you`ll realize why this logic fails.

@Cajun: I looked at @osiris`s maps, Judea is there!
Take Europe for example: Everyone there is a "European", but it`s simply by georgaphy. There is no "Euro language" and "Euro culture" is a vague term which is far less important than "German Culture" or "British Culture".

Consider Canada! The VAST majority of us have ancestors who came here from another country; yet we all call ourselves "Canadians" (well, most of us do!) What unites us? Our geography!

So these are Arabs. Arabic language, Arabic culture & Muslim religion. Living in the AREA of Palestine. Whatever tribal identifiers which set them apart back in 1917 have long since vanished.

What remains unchanged is: Arabs wanting to destroy Israel.

Before you say: Oh, 5Cats proved my point! Consider this:

"Palestine" used to include Jordan too, and Lebanon, Syria and Siani by some maps. Why is ONLY Israel expected to turn over all their land?

    Consider This!

Even this bunch calls them "Arab, Palestinian"

Look where they actually live! THAT proves my point.

    @5Cats

All of which used to belong to the Ottoman Empire. Which gave us Turkey which had a very unique history of Sufism. Egypt isn`t very keen on another war with Israel at the moment. As for antisemitism that`s mostly posturing. If anything the West Bank`s problems are because of the politicians (as the rest of the region would illustrate) not the people.

@Cajun I heartily agree! (This is carried over from a previous thread, in that good way) The trouble is Hamas, which you list as an `exception` is in fact in charge of Gaza.

Outside Arabic powers have done all they can to keep this "Palestinian problem" from being resolved peacefully.

So I`d agree it`s not the "Pali`s fault" that they`re being used as a pawn. But neither is it Israel`s for defending against that "pawn".

As you know, in Chess a lowly Pawn can kill a King or Queen...

Cajun: Hezbollah and Hamas, and factions like them, are the main problem. They are backed by outside countries like Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and others. Israel wants peace and has sacrificed a lot to gain peace to no avail. Until the muslim anti-semetic rhetoric ends in the mosques and in their media, there is no chance for peace.

Newt is correct, the name `palestinian` was made up to falsely convey ethnic ownership that doesn`t exist.

Until the muslim anti-semetic rhetoric ends in the mosques and in their media, there is no chance for peace.

In most countries are controlled by the politicians. Even after 5Cats response nothing makes them less Palestinian (or native if you prefer) or for that matter any more Jordanian. Newt`s statement does not clarify anything and is a distraction from the real problem: the politicians of the region. Hezbollah and Hamas for one don`t really care about the well being of the Palestinians. On the flip side if it weren`t for Israel we wouldn`t have the dictators using it as an excuse to promote draconian and militaristic agendas.

Cajun: Israel is not going to just go away, so that means the only solution is for the arabs to get accustomed to their Israeli neighbors and quit hating and blaming them for all their perceived problems.

It`s far easier to scapegoat others then take responsibility for your own and get to work making your community better.

The Romans scapegoated the Jews, The Spanish scapegoated the Jews, The Germans scapegoated the Jews, The Russians scapegoated the Jews, and now the arabs are scapegoating the Jews, enough is enough.

Israel is not going to just go away

The politicians I`m referring in fact don`t want them to, because then they have no excuse to be the type of politicians they are. A first step in the right direction is to encourage the denizens to expel and denounce those that govern them. The other is stop the foreign aid which goes to the politicians.

@Cajun: as @Crakr mentioned, Jews have been persicuted for centuries. With or without a state of Israel, eh? There was no "Israel" in 1942, when the Holocaust really got running, eh?

The Sheiks and Kings of the Arabic Nations will blame ANYONE who`s convenient. They`ve been doing it for centuries with NO Israel at all.

Re-read your statement, it sounds like you blame Israel for the hatred of the Arab world! I KNOW you don`t! I`m just saying it kinda looks that way...

Too true, they were fighting and killing one another, for centuries, before the Ottomans.

The various sects still fight and kill one another even today.

Just more reason to drill for and pump our own oil, eventually we`ll be able to tell them to go eat what`s left of their damn oil.
