We can`t just leave the country because authority figures start effing things up. We gotta stick here and fight the unjust, poorly trained, incompetent officials. They keep doing these terrible things because we let them continue through our own INACTION. c`mon people....lets all stop bitching and start a revolution.

@thatjimguy, please be more suspect of your government. I dont care if he shot someone. This is america and a guy being bound and tortured at a police station should never ever happen.

holy poo

not as surprising as it should be though

ALL the guys from my hometown who have become cops were bullies in highschool who got off on domination and torturing weaker guys

The police who did this should be KILLED themselves. Anything less is unjust.

I always wondered what would happen if a person was pepper-sprayed and just happened to be severely allergic to the ingredients. Anaphylactic shock is a b****. Would a wrongful death suit be out of the question?

so the cops that shot the spray, and the people that overlooked the operation - they are clear.

yet if i stripped a guy, bound him and dipped him in pepperspray - in my basement - that should be ok according to that department.

cops are sprayed with that in training, but as they said it`s all different - i wonder what grade they get, and what the grade is everyone else gets.

A quote from Michael Parenti, a social and political activist in America.

"I could demonstrate to you that every single bank robbery, that in every single case practically, the cost of the police was more than the actual money that the robbers took from the bank. Does that mean, ‘Oh, you see, there’s really no economic interest involved, then. They’re not protecting the banks. The police are just doing this because they’re on a power trip, or they’re macho, or they’re control freaks, that’s why they do it.’ No, of course it’s an economic interest of course they’re defending the banks. Of course, because if they didn’t stop that one bank robbery, regardless of the cost, this could jeopardize the entire banking system. You see, there are people who still believe that the function of the police is to fight crime. And that’s not true; the function of the police is social control and protection of property

The police are not your friend. They are not there to help you.
They are there to control you. "Keep the Peace" is their job
description. At any cost, control disturbances and people.

Now that the Defense Act passed we don`t have to worry about
pesky constitutional rights anymore.

You should get out of the country some, it would be funny to see when reality hits you hard in the face.

I have asthma and have been around pepper spray during training for my job. Without being sprayed but from the fumes alone I suffered a pretty sever asthma attack. If I was in an enclosed room with pepper on me I believe that I would have an asthma attack so sever that I could die. Does anyone know if the police are trained about the issues with pepper spray and the life threatening affect it can have on people with respiratory conditions.

The trouble with all `non-lethal` but physical compliance devices is they are essentially approved torture devices that police are taught can be used without fear of consequence.

When you combine this with a war mentality and a government that has publicly condoned torture, then you can expect this kind of result.

I am just glad I live in neither the USA, Saudi Arabia, China, nor any of the other places where torture is commonplace.

i`m ordinarily a supporter of law enforcement--the good and moral kind of law enforcement--but this is way out of line and people should be prosecuted for this guy`s death. even if he had mental problems, which a lot of us do, there is no excuse for such cruel and inhumane treatment of another human being.

A cursory search informed me that this guy was mentally disturbed. Wife went to local(Ohio) authorities who contacted local Florida authorities, and spoke of his problems and the need for committal into a hospital. Florida authorities had custody of this man TWICE, and twice took him to jail.
The second time, they killed him.
Some, myself included, would call it murder- the criminal act of homicide.
The only thing more shameful than doing this to a person is to say that it is somehow justified or within some policy.

"It`s been 2 1/2 years now..."

Well, as terrible as this is, this has nothing to do with OWS or a police state. It is an isolated incident. There is probably more to this story than there seems.

"@ megan kelly, food product, eh?"
Well you can`t really blame the pepper spray because it was not used as intended. He died from cardiac arrest induced by repeated pepper spraying, and I`m sure the fact that his air was restricted and being restrained were contributing factors.

Water can be deadly if it is used to torture someone as this man was.

VV Your loss @LazyMe, and an indication of how stupid and BIASED you are.
Local Fox stations =/= Fox News Network, m-kay?

Secondly: This newscast presents facts, and the facts bring the police into disgrace!
Christie is walked in, handcuffed, THEN is subjected to torture by police.
NO ONE is charged with his homicide? That is sickening. The office is "cleared of wrongdoing" defies imagination.

That entire police brance needs to be fired on the spot. Gov. Jeb Bush needs to get this thumb out of his arse and DO IT.

"The fact that no one was charged for what was ruled a homicide is appalling."

Homicide is not always chargeable, it has to be ruled criminal homicide, which it should have been.
