Submitted by: maketreks 5 years ago in

This girl has seen some real hell. Homeless on the streets of Toronto. Be glad you"re not homeless.

@AvatarJohn: How about you cross the border instead of being self righteous and ignorant. Just a thought.

I am sympathetic, however, I am also aware of how subtly manipulative addicts are.

A few days ago, on another large user-submission/comment site (which shall remain nameless) there was a big circle-jerk of people challenging each other to donate to Doctors Without Borders, followed with much self-satisfied back-patting about how much money was raised. Now, DWB is a worthy cause, but, really, real need exists right in your own community, and you needn`t look far to be charitable.....

I actually knew a homeless man whose wife and kids were killed in a car accident. He was a professor at U of T, and after the incident had a mental breakdown and wound up on the streets. Brilliant but broken. He just stopped giving a fck. :(

Mmm...I want to sympathize, but this is a really bad example. Coming right from her own mouth, it sounds like she had every opportunity to not be in this situation.

She nailed it, mental health and addiction, too bad she did not talk about her addiction and what it did to her family.

"No [email protected]#K is given. Why should I treat homeless people any different then anyone else."

...because they need it.

@Ilove

So you would like for people to throw away everything they have worked for just to experience what it would be like had they not worked for it? Hm...

As an amendment to my first post, to those of you here who might have pulled yourselves out of such circumstances, I`m very happy for you and I sincerely hope you`re not one of the people in here with such a hateful viewpoint.

I love the jaded outlook in here... all of us sitting at our computers or using our smart phones scorning her for being homeless and looking less than perfect. And most of you will say she`s lazy or on drugs, that you could do better than her in that situation. Prove it. Give up all your possessions, your home, job, insurance, car, clothes, even walk away from your children and spouse. Then put yourself into the middle of a society with little to no work and adopt the appearance of someone without dental insurance and no income. Live in a homeless shelter or on the street. Watch people who don`t know a goddamn thing about you or your life look at you like you`re a waste of a human being and then forget you even exist.

Don`t want to do that? I didn`t think so. Until you`ve done it, you`re in absolutely no place to throw stones. I don`t care how many people insult me over this post. You know I`m right.

I think some people that are homeless become addicts (drugs, booze, whatever) because of their circumstances...not all of them are junkies. All you need for it to happen is a string of bad choices and pooty luck. Then again, some choose that path...but she didn`t.

Danagamer, you go 6 years without brushing your teeth/seeing a dentist and see if your teeth don`t fall out. If you don`t have access to a toothbrush, you can`t brush your teeth. If you can`t afford a dentist, you can`t get your teeth fixed.

I recently had to get a partial crown put on one of my teeth and it cost 800 dollars AFTER insurance. If she can`t even afford a tooth brush, what makes you think she can afford to get dental work done that costs THOUSANDS of dollars without insurance?

Plus, and to be sure, "meth mouth" is a myth anyway. See here for a complete report, with sources and links. I`m not saying this woman is or is not a user (of whatever drug), I`m just saying that it`s important not to perpetuate myths.

@danagamer
...that`s not meth mouth. She just missing teeth probably due to lack of being able to care for them. pretty awesome how you just assume she`s a drug user. You can even tell from her demeanor she isn`t a meth head. glad to see you`ve got all the answers and aren`t in the least judgmental.

By the looks of her teeth, she could make a fortune giving blowjobs to French dudes without even opening her mouth.
