    old.

    from the hitchhiker`s guide:
    "`I refuse to prove that I exist,` says God, `for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.`
    `But,` says Man, `The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn`t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don`t. QED.`
    `Oh dear,` says God, `I hadn`t thought of that,` and promptly disappears in a puff of logic.
    `Oh, that was easy,` says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.""

    But if God is there to consider the question of his existence, doesn`t that mean he exists? The classic "proofs" of God`s existence are all bad, but "cogito ergo sum" is still a fine argument.

    Zeegrr60, you`re right, getting rid of G-d is easy. It`s the resultant death, destruction, poverty, hopelessness and general Hell on Earth that results from athiests running the place that`s very, very hard to deal with.

    @AvatarJohn, actually, studies show that the religiosity of a country negatively correlates with how good it is for its people. In other words, religion is actually BAD for a nation, not good for it.

    For example, take a look at this study: Cross-National Correlations of Quantifiable Societal Health with Popular Religiosity and Secularism in the Prosperous Democracies

    If you want the short version, skip to the figures near the bottom. Click the "Figure #" to see the different figures. Especially note how in Figure 4 that infant mortality rates (dead babies) increase in a clear correlation with more religion. Even according to the CIA the US isn`t in the top 20% for in

    (cut off from below)

    ...the US isn`t in the top 20% for infant mortality, while most less-religious nations, like Cuba, are.

    @AvatarJohn

    Oh, totally.

    It`s much better living in a world where bronze age fairy tales dictate the morality of countless individuals who are willing to abuse, murder, hate and discriminate in the name of their religion.

    Genocide, sexual discrimination, racial discrimination, war, torture, "terrorism", child abuse, etc... - these things are hell on earth. How many atrocities throughout human civilization could have been avoided if people weren`t so keen on following an invisible man in the sky that promised eternal happiness to his believers? How many atrocities are still committed daily?

    Religion isn`t the cause of every negative act in the world, but it certainly does, in the words of Hitchens himself, poison everything.

    Oh come on, religion is generally a good thing. It gives people community, supports most of the charity work in the world, and it helps people to cope in situations of extreme stress. Atheism (silly term because atheism isn`t really a belief) does not provide for these needs. That is why I go to the catholic soup kitchen to volunteer. I am an atheist, but I like religion, I see some value in it.

    That is so wrong. On reddit r/atheism raised over 150,000 for doctors with out borders with in hours.
