Forced Crying Over Death Of Kim Jong-Il

I will change sorrow into strength and courage. (At the 1:26 mark, you"ll see what looks like a man carrying a gun.)

At 1:26 you see a military man with a rifle. But I bet you didnt spot the hundreds of plain-clothed military members with the explosive collars crying over the death of a fat bloke!

POssibly the most disgusting thing i have ever seen. I`m talking about the fact that they are in such a controlled state that their own people will actually believe this to be genuine. And even worse there are children there learning that this is normal.

Stand up in your own police state America, because this mental cage is your near future if you don`t.

Aren`t they brainwashed to believe that Kim Jon Il was God on Earth? If that`s true, I`m pretty sure their tears are real... misguided (to say the least), sure, but real.

"Not a troll, troll implys that i do not believe in what I am typing and generally doing it for reaction."

Got half of it right. Troll implies that you`re generally attacking people in order to get a reaction. Could be that you`re trying to get a reaction b/c you _strongly_ believe in your own point of view. ...or it could be because you`re a complete d**k.

In this situation, I feel like it`s a bit of both.

Regardless of how right I think you are, saying "no shhit... cpt obvious" to somebody agreeing with you just makes you look like an ass.

Anyway, yeah, the standing in perfect lines and obvious acting give this away as a sham instantly. It`s not hard to distinguish acting crying from real crying.

A lot of them are indoctirined to think that he was awesome while the rest of the world was evil, so I don`t think it was forced. It`s like living your entire life in a basement and being told there is nothing good outside the basement; you wouldn`t know unless you actually went out and looked.

@Lillian: I don`t think the video implies it is forced crying, but the caption certainly does, which is why I made the title neutral when I posted the link to leave people to make their own minds up. IAB staff obviously thought we needed to be led to a certain conclusion and changed my caption to say it was forced crying. It may be or it may not be, but I think the situation in N. Korea is much more complicated than implied by the video caption.

"Brainwashing is forcing, no matter how you look at it. "

It`s a different kind of forcing than this video implies. This video implies that they`re crying because they`re afraid they`ll be killed or punished if they don`t. My position is that they are crying because they believed he was a great man and they are truly morning the loss, even though that belief comes from being brainwashed. I feel like I`ve said this to you already.

N Korea is so insane about even their leader`s picture that something as mundane as sitting on a photo of him is punishable by death, no lie.

They treat their leaders like gods, there is a whole mythology around the birth of Kim Jong Il, something like the sky opened up and the sun and moon broke out in patriotic songs and a double rainbow when he arrived on earth. Forcing a mass mourning like this is just par for the course.

Frankly we should all be surprised that NK TV isn`t already reporting on Kim`s miraculous resurrection yet...

A forced norm that i never take part in. As a matter of fact, I tend to call someone or start talking to the person next to me when someone calls for a moment of silence during sports. Why? Cause religious tax dollars didnt pay for my seat. Singing the national anthem should be done by all, not one and it certainly deserves no minute of silence.

The "Minute of silence" in most cases is purely religious and bullshhit.

Cmon, even here in America you got a bunch of fanatics who worship someone who murders, rapes, forces incest, forces worship, all under the guise that they are doing it for good. They call him God, the father of Jesus. They are BRAINWASHED into forgetting the evils of their god thus FORCING them to believe it is for the good.

I didnt see a country crying over Saddam, or Osama. You may have had sporadic groups or hardliners. But its because these people, although most follow a hardline version of Muslim, were not FORCED, were not BRAINWASHED into worshiping their leader.

No they just FORCE rape victims to marry their attacker.

The gun has little or nothing to do with the forced expressions of grief. Even the NK military isn`t so ham-fisted that they`d shoot someone on the spot for an insufficient display of grief. No, the big fear here is that some party higher-up in attendance will report your apparent indifference to the Dear Leader`s death and you`ll be taken away to a forced labor camp in the next day or two.

This is a society ruled by fear. Those who`ve escaped it make remarks such as "We all knew we were living like dogs but forced to sing about how happy our lives were. Everyone is terrified to speak out."

I saw nary a wet eyelash or teardrop in the entire video--except for the woman at the end wearing a fashionable coat, who I suspect is a member of the party elite.

Um, no. If you`re brainwashed into something from birth, you really believe it`s true. For example, if you`re brainwashed to believe that Kim Jong-Il is the greatest human ever, you`ll believe it`s true. Your reaction to his death will most likely be hysterical crying like these people. That does not mean that they`re forced. Being forced means you`re doing something that you don`t want to do because you fear death or punishment if you don`t do it. These people were brainwashed into believing something, and this is most likely their true reaction to the death, not a forced reaction.

Ah, so that explains all the tears over JFK. The police had guns!

No love lost for the loss of the looser, but in a country as brainwashed as NK, I`d expect a lot of mourning. Clearly there will be some over-the-top and exaggeration during the Two Minutes of Saddness, but saying the presence of a soldier in a dictatorship means everyone is faking? Meh with mehsauce.

Um.. why is it assumed that they`re forced? These people worshiped him like he`s a god. I watched a documentary once where they healed blind NKers and they didn`t thank the doctor but instead they were overjoyed that they could finally see a picture of Kim Jong-Il. There`s plenty of reasons for why the military was there. Tons of people in distress could lead to something bad. Plus I`m pretty sure they have the military wander around constantly no matter where they are.
