I think you misunderstand the concept of renewable energy. You dont grow uranium, indeed it is in a constant state of decay. You can convert one type of uranium to another, but it is no way a renewable energy source.

Really, it isnt all that clean or safe. Its just a controlled disaster.

Cold fusion and supercooled conductivity really need more research. True clean energy, low energy usage to high energy output. If they could only make borium magnets more stable during the fusion process. Till then, decaying rock is what powers most of us.

You`re right apart from the fact that we don`t have that much uranium (there isn`t that much on Earth) and that it`s not renewable.

But it is the least bad viable solution currently available and needs to be part of our future plans for at least the next 40 years. Even if ITER works as planned, like JET did, it`ll take about that long before fusion could take over.

If you`re punting fission for long-term use, consider thorium cycle fission instead of uranium. Then you`d only need enough uranium to last until thorium cycle fission is sorted. Thorium is far more abundant than uranium.

Anyone who is relying on faith in divine intervention is foolhardy, even if they call their gods "aliens".

I found the key to infinite energy in 2007. All you need is a tower with a waterwheel in it that`s attached to a dynamo and a portal gun to make a pair of portals above and below it. Pour water into the lower portal and voila! It`ll come out of the upper portal, fall under gravity directly down, turning the wheel on the way, then out through the lower portal and thus out through the upper portal. A continuous cycle needing no energy input at all! Perpetual hydroelectric power!

Even if ITER works as planned...
Hey! I was going to bring that up.

I don`t think it will take them 40 years to build the first fusion plant. I believe their long term forecast was to be complete in 30, last time I checked.

And beyond that it will not take nearly as long, since the technology will already exist.

And even if it does take 80 years, as you say, we can hold out until then.

I`ve got a better question... will we make it to Mars before fusion takes over?

Really, it isnt all that clean or safe. Its just a controlled disaster.

Fair enough, but it`s a fair bit cleaner and safer than coal. Possibly cleaner and safer than oil and gas if you put a modern fission power station in a suitable place (i.e. not where it can be hit by major natural disasters). Modern fission power stations are abruptly shut down by default without any power or human intervention required - they require power and human intervention to remain fissioning.

"Modern fission power stations are abruptly shut down by default without any power or human intervention required - they require power and human intervention to remain fissioning."

But that still requires the burning of a fuel instead of a completely plausible energy source.

The true problem with finding compact, clean and safe energy is that once you invent such a thing, then you weaponize it. Cold fusion reactors, while still a while off, have already been minurtarized to the point to where it can be studied as possible self contain batteries. the problem is it requires constant tinkering to keep the fusion stable.

But thats why im liking the studies of Supercooled conductive borium reactors....

As far as the portal energy is concerned, i still do not think that would work based on physics, drag, and water speed. through those portals you would have no form of acceleration except gravity. Problem with earth is once that water hits a certain speed, its going to break up and not be able to turn a water wheel. If you keep the portals close together, then the water would be slowed by the wheel eventually pooling up behind it.

Now if you had a way to pump the water using less energy than the flowing water could make, say, through maybe a giant distributor cap like we use in our cars, then that would work. But again you have to offset energy used versus energy created.

OK, feed the water through a pipe. That way it won`t break up.

Or use a solid object instead of water, although you`d need a different way of converting its kinetic energy to electricty.

Eh, what? Cold fusion isn`t known to exist at all and doesn`t even have a theoretical explanation as to how it might happen.

You`re not referring to Andrea Rossi`s claims, are you?

But I agree with you about weaponisation. Thorium cycle fission reactors don`t actually exist yet, but on paper they could be made into a wholly self-contained unit that could fit into a room and which doesn`t emit radiation and generates power for decades. Such a thing could be used for localised electricity generation, in the basement of a building.

And one of the first things considered was how one could be used to make a nuclear bomb. Because someone would.

You know ang, to get the result that you are proposing with portals, you could accomplish the same thing with a natural vacuum. Much akin to siphoning gas from a gas tank, you could simply have a series of vacuum tubes redumping the water at the point of decent. the problem there lies with the velocity of the contained water trying to travel UP the tube. Perhaps a spinning cylidrical centrifuge (also run from the decent power from the water) could spin the water from its highest point of gravity to the top.

Thats like saying a person cant be a musician without a degree.

You dont have to be an engineer to hear things going around. You dont have to have a degree to understand things. You dont need a degree to take some initiative and do research for the sake of research. Matter of fact, Tesla never finished college.

But i do have a physics degree....Cant make combat flight sims without it.

@Steelgrid finally mentioned Tesla! Probably the smartest human since Archimedes!
Tesla claimed many things, including "free energy" and such. Amazingly many of his "crazy inventions" are actually real, working things in modern times! Radio, AC current, finless turbines...
Since the FBI still has half his papers "above top secret" we`ll have to wait and see if his free energy grid comes to pass.

I`ll put my money on Tesla over space aliens any day.

@drawman61, could easily be! More than one "ancient people" claimed contact from aliens...

Tesla had great ideas that were compounded by the diseases that ravaged his body and the incredible pressure the scientific community had on him. he should be recognized more than he already is. The problem with tesla is the same as all great controversial pioneers. His theories went against accepted scientific findings at the time. its is not until the past 10-15 years has Telsa`s more ambitious project are made more mainstream. Electric car (Which he already built), wireless energy(which he already had a whole town running on) and the studies of resonant frequencies in different building materials which is JUST NOW starting to help make buildings more earthquake safe.

But again, all that is accomplished when religion is removed from the equation. Thee further man spirals into a religious lul, we will go back to having no knowledge like the dark ages. Once science (and the people it affects) has achieved FULL acceptance, the human race can go on to finally ascend to something better, even if that involves finding a way to remove this fleshy casing while still retaining a consciousness in the energy that runs our bodily functions.

"I`m telling you, this is what 2012 will be all about."

2012 is the stupidest bit of religious mass human hysteria we will ever see. The date is going come, go, and in a few years we will be bombarded with another doomsday date, then when that comes, we will repeat the process.

When we stop looking at metaphysics as a cause of our problems, we will then define the truth behind the problems.

I didnt say you mentioned God datubman. I was saying that, according to the bible, mankind has alreaady been wiped in the giant wet reset button. Mankind became worse as a result. No where did i say you mentioned god.

So truely, your previous posts said absolutly nothing that wasnt already said. its like a blank slate of worthless words put down in an attempt to defend yourself from an attack that never happened. Kinda reminds me of the kid with the helmet with his arms crossed, one hand covering his face while the other one flails wildly in all direction.

So in extending my point, man does NOT need a reset button. It just needs to stop letting invisible forces dictate what is right and wrong. It needs to stop seeing race. It needs to stop seeing Americans, Afghans, or any nationality. Humanity needs humanity, and we are abandoning ourselves for the comfort of ignorance.

just thought about something. If god does nothing but good, and Satan say, makes diseases, wouldnt that by default make it Satan`s doing that Tesla went nuts and started pumping out all these inventions? I mean, by default, it is Satan`s work that gives us the life we live today. Electricity in AC form allows you do all the things you do in life today, and that is a result of Telsa`s research, which he didnt start till the diseases ravaged his mind and body.

Now mind you, I dont believe in the entity, but a little food for thought for you Christian nutjobs typing on the Devil`s internet.

While im all about the existence and a believer in Aliens, this is again a group of humans relying on an outside source to do what we as a species have perfect capability to do ourselves. This is not only the wrong way to save humanity, but an excellent way to put us in slavery, or have all of our current earthly beliefs considered unlawful.

Kill God+Realizing Aliens need to visit, not dictate = the salvation of Man.

Genesis: Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know; am I my brother`s keeper?”

    Sarcasm: The Christian way.

Man Ive been holding onto that one for some time.

Sorry to bore you there Crackr. A little education does that to people. I guess you religious types can hope god will save you. Believers will hope Aliens can save us. I for one support human intervention as finding a way to our true solution. Once that starts, while you pray and believers...believe, ill be working on, or benefit from, the fruits of a human`s labors. At least the books ive read tell me how to actually handle a problem.

I think that was well said Steelgrid and I think you are 100% correct. We hold the power to do great things but we don`t do them.

Really? Mega-corporations rule the world? Who would have thought? (Sarcasm)

It`s not that the people don`t know, it`s that we don`t care enough. Humans only care about themselves, not their planet, it`s the sad fact of life.

Let us bow our heads on silence for the crews of the ISS Ishimura. Let us reflect on the dangers of planet crack lest we forget the memories of the crews lost both in the ishimura, and of those attempting to rescue her.

whatever you think about what you just watched doesn`t matter.

what matters is the question of why do we accept the world the way it is when we know just how unequal, unfair and terrible it is for the vast majority of its inhabitants?

we are more powerful than a handful of people, even with all their money. WE ARE and yet WE DO SO LITTLE and we belittle those that do try to change the world.

we are not the 99%, we are the apathetic.

oh please. as soon as i saw crop circles you know the guy is whack! build one, then i`ll listen anything else is propaganda.

so let`s build this thing, and what will happen? they become the top money people and there will be a new uprising around that. and what if we did have free power, are they saying all those homeless, and starving people will suddenly not be?

and why the hell would aliens care about us? if they really cared, they would come down to our planet and tell us directly, or give us one that worked. not giving us some symbol, that for all we know is a warning of some kind to not build it. kind of like our radiation symbol, it`s all over too. yet we are burying the waste with that symbol. imagine opening that up in a 2000 years when they forgot what it was.
