Link: Daniel Day-Lewis, Epic Method Actor Does Abe - When he preps for a role, he becomes that role. In this case, Abraham Lincoln. He`s even making people call him Abraham.

Epic method actor wears blue jeans, isn`t actually a method actor. He is a good actor. But don`t call him a method actor when he is eating modern food while wearing modern clothes.

He`s the only actor that can play any role and make me forget it`s Daniel Day Lewis playing it.

He`s good, and there`s a reason for it. I don`t blame him for doing that. It obviously works.

Agreed. He`s eating at a canteen and hadn`t removed his make-up. Hardly surprising, consider the time required to do professional level makeup.

If anyone gets the chance to watch the "making of" video for the film "Master and Commander", I recommend it. The director only agreed to do the film with what was essentially a blank cheque for both money and time, and it shows. The actor playing the lead role spent months learning to play the violin because the character he was playing did so in the books and it appeared in a scene or two in the film. All the actors learned to actually crew a c.1800 English naval ship - the scenes at sea are not faked. The ship isn`t either - they had two built to real plans from 1792. They even had the metalwork handmade by blacksmiths with hammers. The hundreds of feet of rope was unpicked and rewound the opposite way, to match how it was done at the time. At all times on set, not just during filming, all the actors observed rank correctly for the English navy 210 years ago.

    It`s a superbly made film.

Ooh, we need a good Civil War movie! Glory had a few historical inaccuracies that irked me, Gettysburg was good but extremely long and slow, and I heard Gods and Generals was terrible.

Hopefully whatever he`s making will be excellent. Like, Saving Private Ryan excellent.

Angilion, one of my favourite films of all time. I`ll take you up on that, and certainly seek out the "making of" film.

It`s the second disc in the 2-disc collector`s edition DVD version of the film. I don`t know if it`s available in any other way, but that`s how I saw it.

Yeah, he`s a phenomenal actor - perhaps the best actor of present times.

To those saying that this isn`t method acting because he`s wearing blue jeans and eating at a cafe, I disagree. The notion of immersing yourself - physically - into the person`s world is a misconception of the Method. While I`m sure some actors do this, what distinguishes the Method from other training tools in acting is that the person immerses themselves *mentally* into the role.

According to this 2008 article in the Telegraph on Marlon Brando`s life, for example, "[t">he Method was something of a moveable feast, but its central tenet was simple: the actor`s job is not to become someone else but to become himself."

@simbha - I was watching an interview with Francis Ford Coppola. He was talking about trying to convince Brando to play Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now and Brando had some issue with the role/script. Later Brando admitted he lied about reading the script, read it the night before, and wanted to play the role. Coppola said Brando was pretty lazy like that and he suspected Brando worked that character trait into his roles. Coppola suspects that the way Brando is really slow about delivering his lines is due to the fact that he`s actually trying to remember what his lines are.

tl;dr - you are correct sir.
