One third less plastic--normally, you`d have ONE drive in a clamshell that size.

People buy these things individually? They give them away at ever other social function.

The new equipment to make the packaging in a smaller size has a bigger environmental footprint.

Yeah, less plastic for everyone else since they seem to keep it all to themselves

You`re in computing aren`t you? Trade shows do not count as social functions, no matter how hard you try.

It used to bother me to return stuff that was packaged like this, because you have to destroy the package to get it open, and they can`t resell it. Then I thought, drat them, I`m not going to let them guilt me into keeping some piece of $#!+ that`s not what I wanted just because of their pooty choice of packaging.

So, whenever you`re in a store, buy something you don`t want in one of these packages, take it home and cut it open, and then take it back. If we all do this enough, maybe they`ll go back to putting stuff in reclosable boxes.

Sadly, it`s true. They used to waste even more plastic. The packages were taller and wider. I have no idea why when they should be 90% smaller. I think their stupid thinking was that if the package is smaller it will get overlooked on the shelves. Morons.

for those that don`t know, it`s that size to keep people from walking off with them, if they want less plastic they should have two versions - one for online use the other for in store use. of course this doesn`t stop looting inside the warehouse.

it probably has thinner plastic jeez, and just like Photoking said its to keep people from stealing them, if its too big for your pocket its alot harder to steal.
