Maybe if we bury our heads in the sand, all the bad stuff will go away, right America?

Hey everybody! America found it`s voice right here on IAB!!!!1!!!! Why else would lukeforv123 make sweeping statements about what Americans believe? It couldn`t possibly be because he is arrogant enough to think everyone thinks exactly like him, could it? Could it? COULD IT?

What the picture doesn`t show you are all the covers that are exactly the same. The ones above that change outside America are different because nobody in, say, Asia, would know or care about Glenn Beck, the American education system, or American politics. They cater their main stories to each audience.

We`re ignorant. TIME wouldn`t sell in the U.S. if we reported what was really going on in the world. Besides, no one in America gives a crap about the rest of the world. People here consider Hawaii as foreign and exotic.

That insults me actually. Fk time magazine. I don`t know why I care but it really feels like that magazine just slapped me in the face or something. Maybe because I live in the US. Still our version is the only one that is different and that leads me to believe they just don`t care about this country`s readers as much as they do others. As if to say our readers are of a lower intelligence and should read worthless articles written by the interns.

Why this doesnt surprise me

I would imagine the same stories are contained inside. They`re just using different covers based on what will sell more.

Which still says something awful about our country, but at the very least the magazine is presenting the same information if we read the whole thing through.

Yeah, the media here is self-centered. We all know that.

I go to international sites to get news, usually BBC.

Also, what`s the Canadian cover?

I`ve never heard of a major magazine issuing completely different issues for different countries outside of translations.

@ Gerry:

hahahaha yeah, I guess it was kinda like that :D

I won`t respond to her again should she decide to be a troll about it. She is entitled to her opinion, as am I. I just think it`s mighty arrogant of her to assume that because I`m a student I`m merely at "play" while she`s off in the "real world." Nursing students see a lot of bad stuff, as well.

Oh well, I hope she has a good day :)

@tvremote: "These magazines have the same content, they are just marketed differently." I assure you they don`t. Having subscribed to one version for seven years and the other version for three years, I`d say there is a big difference. I switched to the Economist, which is closer to the International version of Time.

@tvremote, if some "neutral stories" are more appealing than most important world shaping events this is just ignorance, nothing more.

I strongly suspect no one here actually looked at the covers for more than two seconds. In the top left corner of the first American cover you`ll notice it has the same story as the cover of the international version. These magazines have the same content, they are just marketed differently.

"Oh, yeah well clearly the international audience is more sophisticated and therefore get the serious pieces on the cover"

No. TIME is an American magazine and therefore deals with issues in America first. For an American audience that means American or neutral stories are the forefront. For obvious reasons the international edition uses the international stories first.

Some Americans may make the mistake of believing nothing goes on outside of the US, but those outside the US often make the mistake that nothing going in inside it.

When my address changed I could no longer get the international version and was sent the US version. It`s like two different magazines. US version is like Hello Magazine rather than a serious news organ. I soon cancelled my subscription.

It`s just a matter of selling to your target market... it`s just business. Americans wouldn`t pay for a cover that is a complete downer - but more importantly, it shouldn`t be overlooked that the content inside is very much the same across the globe. Lots of magazines do this.

Clearly the creator of this propaganda post hates America... and is therefore a douche.

I spend a lot of my time in a hospital as a nursing student. believe me honey, I see REAL WORLD issues all the time, from HIV to a bruised and battered 2-month-old child with her leg in a cast.

So yes, I do need a break from the real world sometimes. kthanks.

When you get done playing student and work as a combat medic in Iraq, let me know....Ever seen a mans leg blown off?

Yeah, the whole world is one gigantic bad joke.
Look at a human, see the potential.
Now look at where we are.
I would laugh my ass off if I weren`t part of that joke.

I`m going to assume this is purely marketing.
You can`t "hide" news from Americans, we have the internet. You can visit any site you like for news and get it any flavor (Conservative spin, Liberal spin, religious, not-religious, or even Live and raw with all the gore).
Someone in Times marketing dept looked at whatever was going to make the cover, and probably decided sales were going to be low (or people were going to be annoying) if it was published here so they swapped it out for something they thought Americans would be more interested in.
Consider the way in which we get our panties in a bunch over the slightest things. Could be that they just didn`t want to deal with the hassle of annoyed subscribers rage-quitting their subs over "lack of sensitivity" as well.

I understand what you`re saying @Nietzscheese: sometimes the covers of the US edition feature the `hardcore` news, and sometimes the forign editions have `soft` covers too.

That the creator of this (not @littlemissqt, eh?) chose to display only one side = America bashing.

alright ya know what? frankly I`m tired of getting force-fed war and fighting and death every day on the news. It`s nice to be able to pick up a magazine and NOT see a tank or the Taliban or a soldier on the front cover.

Thank god for Time, America.

It`s good you can take "a break" from it. That`s because it doesn`t directly affect you. I think issues like these should be on the front of every magazine and newspaper. There are REAL world issues out there that not too many of us are familiar with or even care about. Sometimes you need to turn off the Kardashians and step into the REAL world.

Either I`m not understanding you or you`re not understanding me. What I said is that I PERSONALLY WENT TO TIME.COM and checked the covers for their back issues. These covers do actually check out. Maybe it matters to you whether this post originates from here or some other website, but I don`t think were it came from matters as long as it checks out.

But to reemphasize the point of my original post. If you go through the back catalog you can find examples of a reverse trend in the covers.

No. Whoever made this post saw it on reddit/imgur, assumed it was valid(Because, you know, reddit and imgur are made up of such intelligent individuals and well thought out posts), and posted it on here.

For those looking for conformation about these covers. If you go to the link posted by Monosandalos, they do check out. That being said you can also find covers that do exactly the opposite.

In Oct 31, the US cover was on "The China Bubble", while the others were "Inside Tintin". For Nov 14, the US cover was "Can you still move up in America?", the others were "Why Mom liked you best".

Given that whoever made this post would have had to have seen those examples as well, this is really just America-bashing.

This was stupid when it was on imgur a week ago, and it`s stupid on here. Nothing is being censored. Time magazine chose to change the cover of the magazine (Probably to make it more appealing to an American audience). The contents of the magazines are exactly the same.

So? TIME is not widely read here. It`s a leftover from another era. Old people read it. Tea Party people. So naturally they cover stupid TeaBagger stuff like the Bibbl in school and crap.

Nothing to see here, move along.
