People who do this are twice the assh*le.

1 part assh*le for stiffing on the tip.

1 part non-nice individual for using deception to get someone to look at your bullsh*t "message".

All IAB`ers have my permisson to slap the living sh*t out of anyone they see doing this. I will pay your bail.

I was concerned about the "make $2.65/hour" thing, so I had to look it up. Apparently minimum wage if you get tips is $2.13/hour. The government expects you to make the rest up in tips. Here`s the kicker, though. If you don`t make at least what you should have made making minimum wage, your employer has to make up the difference. So technically you`re making at least minimum wage, if not more if you do good on tips.

Also, whoever made that fake $10 is an non-nice individual.

Nope. It`s clearly not a real US$10. It is "missing" the middle piece, as if folded so the bottom says "TEARS" instead of "TEN DOLLARS."

As a Christian I feel the need to apologize for this as if it`s my fault. Leave the waiter a gosh darn ten along with that or something! That`s just so petty! If I have a great waiter I always tip 25% plus, and good waiters get their 15%. But that, is just SOOO LOW

If you don`t make at least what you should have made making minimum wage, your employer has to make up the difference. Out of all waiter-compensation plans out there, that must be the worst.

1 - less than minimum wage, that by itself, is disgusting
    2 - $2.13/hr? Disgusting.
3 - Anything extra is based on a flawed social preconception to always tip
4 - If the wage is less than whatever the real minimum is, you get it anyway, from the employer, so there is little incentive to "do more to get more"

It`s hilarious actually. In this system everyone looses. Everyone. The customer, the waiter and the employer. Slavery would be preferable. At least then your owner has a responsibility to feed and clothe yo

The Catholic Church, the Mormon Church, etc, are sitting on a mountain of cash to the tune of billions. Shouldn`t they be helping the poor a lot more than they are? Why are they hoarding so much money? Wasn`t helping people less fortunate than you Jesus`s big thing? The Church`s could be doing wonderful things like spending their money on teaching the poor new skills. Or building low income housing. Or rehabilitating criminals. Where is the good? All I mostly hear and see from the religious leaders is judging.

Some are even outright corrupt. This is why I`m more of a "do right by yourself and by others, keep those universal human morals, and you`ll be okay" kinda guy.

some of the servers i know who make 2.65 an hour, will also be pulling $400-600 per shift or $100-200 on a bad night (4 hour shift). this is roughly $55,000 a year working at a chilies prices restaurant. so every time a server i know complains about a "bad night", it just makes me want to start tipping less.

Coming from a Jesus Freak, this is really sad. My grandma actually leaves those, but then she also leaves a 20% tip with it. Personally, leaving a note like that in my opinion wouldn`t have an effect on anyone (as we can see here). It just satisfies the persons urge to share Jesus. So, essentially, it is quite selfish, which is the complete opposite of what sharing the gospel is supposed to be. And I do not blame a waiter getting that for hating Jesus Freaks like me even more. To anyone out there that this has happened to (and I know this means absolutely nothing, but I thought I`d say it anyway) I am sorry on behalf of "Christians" who do this.

    1. Servers don`t take names and addresses along with drink orders, so I don`t even know where you`re trying to go with that. There`s nothing to indicate bad service. Good servers get screwed over every day.

    2. Well duh, it`s the only terms they *can* agree to. Do you really think servers can negotiate a higher wage? If so, please try that and report back.

Being English, I just don`t understand tipping. In the USA, are prices for food made to look cheaper by about 20% by not including enough decent money for the waiters? Why don`t restaurants put the right price on the menu, enough to pay people properly? Something just doesn`t make sense.

Waitstaff do make minimum wage. They have to claim their tips and if they don`t make enough to constitute minimum, then the company is legally obligated to bump up the pay to make it minimum wage.

However, I have yet to see any waitstaff actually claim all of their tips because it`s mainly cash tips. In reality, they tend to make at least $20+ an hour, unless they work for a pooty company...

10Bears, yeah, it`s pretty much expected that you tip here. People often feel entitled to it. It`s sort of like how I get mad when people drive in front of me/merge into the lane I`m in on the freeway (highway, to you?) and don`t use their blinker. It`s not a right; you are letting me know you intend to get into the lane I`m in at some point, and asking my permission to let you in. And going back to the food thing.. you never know when someone you give a `poor` tip to one time will do something to your food, or -not- do something to it that needs to be done, that keeps us usually tipping well. It`s the sad state of things.

Boo-hoo, you don`t have enough for a frickin` game. Wah. If you were truly hurting for money, I could understand, even justify, your outrage. Since you have clearly stated your intent to purchase a game (as opposed to getting groceries, paying rent/bills, you know actually important stuff) you sound like a spoiled child, trying to make a go of being all grown up.

Actually grow up, have some real money concerns, and for the love all that is scientifically rational (because you`ve so assertively stated your devout atheism) realize you can do nothing but further pollute the gene pool and save up your meager tips for a vasectomy.

Jaellot... part of a waiter`s salary is based on tips. How would you feel if your boss came up to you and said, "I am going to deduct 30% of your salary to encourage you to go to church." Would that be okay with you? Because that is what people like this are doing. (Note, I do modulate my tip based on service, but I would never do anything like this.)

Second, if he wants to spend his salary on a game, that is his business. Besides, this is clearly a joke. He earned a proper tip, who are you to judge how he spends money he earned. If I told you how to spend your money you would be pretty angry.

Finally, my guess is that notes like this do more to hurt the cause this church claims to be for. This is just an excuse for the non-tipper to feel sanctimonious, when they are really just being cheap. If you are not prepared to tip someone, don`t eat out.

I`ve worked restaurants. The cheapest non-nice individuals on the planet are the Sunday after church crowd, who think they`re being generous by dropping a dime on a fifty-dollar check. Pricks, every one.

If a business lets its employees accept tips, it doesn`t need to pay minimum wage. Therefore, if it pays better than minimum wage, it won`t let you accept tips typically.

"$2.65 an hour? Is that not way below minimum wage? "

If it is tip based, they can pay you whatever the drat they want, HOWEVER! If per hour you make less than minimum wage with tips, they have to bring it up to at least minimum wage.

American food outlets must be assh*les, why not just pay a decent fuc*ing wage? Tips should be given only if the service you receive is of a high standard as is the case here in the UK.

That`s base pay. Then you add on tips. Most Americans prefer it this way. Waiters still get their money and customers get better service. It`s considered extremely rude and offensive to not leave a tip.

Imagine a world where everyone earned tips. I`d love it - I`d get my iCrap at cost and say "gee, I`d like to pay more, but, y`know, the service on it really isn`t that great... so I`m gonna skip it." Or "thanks for fixing up my car so I can get to work - and those new wiper blades and an oil filter was a good recommendation. $285 in parts? Oh, I only budgeted $300 for the repair, so here`s $15 for all the time you put into it. Really great job."

Serving sucks. If we could actually choose to ignore those customers who are regulars and don`t tip (or try to walk out on their bill), or if the boss didn`t say "you make your own pay raise" - then every time we increase business they hire a new crappy server to take away our income - then I might not think it sucked so bad.

What burns the most about getting stiffed? That $2.33 basically covers all the crap cleaning work you have to do - so the person basically told you you should work for

Here is a tip - get an education and you might not have to wait tables, also, my brother was a very good waiter and he made more than I did in the factory . . . but he had to hustle for it! Not many folks can afford to tip these days get used to it!

if you can`t afford to tip at all, don`t eat at a restaurant. you should be eating at home with food bought from the cheapest store in your area.. if you`re so hard up.

"Here is a tip - get an education and you might not have to wait tables"

I`ve worked in many restaurants through the years. I have a degree, and 80% of the people I`ve worked with in restaurants do too. They don`t keep doing it over other job offers, because there just aren`t enough offers. Every job wants experience but no one will hire people to give them that experience. Restaurants always need people to wait on your lazy ass for you to not tip. You should be ashamed of yourself for spewing such ignorant nonsense. Probably a teenager who frequents Perkins all night, makes a mess and leaves no tip.
