Teacher Might Be Fired Over A Remark [Pic]

Submitted by: eugenius 5 years ago in

The remark was at student. Did the remark cross the line, I-A-B. Is everyone too sensitive or is a firing just?

Im a teacher, and I have to say if this guy gets fired over something silly like that that`s ridiculous. If saying that is enough to get you fired I should have been fired five times over by now. That`s just dumb.

Depends on the context. If the student was making an excuse about not doing it and the teacher goes "What, did you eat it or something?" making a joke off a well known phrase then I think it`s ok. But if he was all "Hey fatty, did you eat your homework you fat fatass?" then I think it`s a problem.

Butthurt. And by the context, I would guess ENORMOUS butthurt.

So, apparently it`s okay that colleges have to offer remedial reading and math courses because incoming freshmen are functionally illiterate, but THIS is intolerable.
So apparently the students have the right to free speech, but teachers don`t.
There`s quite a large difference between being allowed to express an opinion amongst peers, and an authority figure verbally abusing someone in their care. Keep in mind, if the student had retaliated with a similar insult, it`s likely he`d have been suspended.

That said, if this is a first offense, I think firing may be a bit much. However, we don`t know if it`s a first offense, or if the teacher has a prior history of abusive treatment. Some type of disciplinary action is called for, however.

I`ve had teachers say worse things. Not that big of a deal.

Not nice, but not worth firing him/her.
Like those other teachers featured at IAB not long ago, systematic abuse = 1 day punishment? oy vey!

Inappropriate for a teacher to behave that way, I`d agree, but firing him I think is a bit harsh.
