When the people do it, they go to jail. When the cops do it, nothing happens....

I see the word "violent mob" being thrown around a lot. There is a HUGE difference between a really large group of UNARMED angry people that want to be heard (doesn`t matter if you agree with what they`re yelling about or not) and a violent mob. If you get shot for speaking your mind as a large group in this country, I don`t care what side of the political spectrum you`re coming from, we`re all screwed.

Yeah go home like a good civilian, work your ass off and buy poo like you`re supposed to do. Become a slave to the established system, which promise you freedom and whatnot while gradually stripping you off your rights.
poo is so cash.

There`s no proof either way unfortunately so let`s leave it at that. But to say "police line = violent mob in front of police line" without seeing said mob is an argument from ignorance.

Look at all the graffiti, they are trashing the place. If you were smart, when you see a large group of police in riot gear, you go home.

You idiots blindly supporting the rioters sicken me. yadda, yadda, yadda...

Again, would you prefer they use real bullets. Here`s a clue: Don`t be a part of a violent mob and your chances of getting shot with a rubber bullet is greatly minimized.

Thank you EgalM. Interesting how the story changes once you have all the facts.

Yeah go ahead and set those standards and see what happens when an issue you actually think needs to be protested comes up. Oh they`ll be nice to you then right?

Exactly MeGrendel, The police sit around their precinct and at the stated time don their riot gear and go down to the protest and label what`s going on an "unlawful assembly" and just shoot people who point cameras at them.
Sure glad you don`t run the world.

Cajun247-"Proof?"

Yes, because riot police always gather in full riot gear and armed with non-lethal ordinance in a line accross a street where ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is happening.

You, also, have no prove that there was no violence or instigation on the part of the protestors.

@Cajun247

In that case, I suppose we should also have proof that he was a peaceful protester doing absolutely nothing wrong at any point before the video started. Oh, and proof that the mob he was in were peaceful and absolutely not trying to provoke a violent police response so they could complain about police brutality. It`s a two way street here.

What, you don`t know what`s happening, LOL listen to the freaking video! The guy on camera asks if it`s OK ... and for 20 seconds, he pans a video to show the police, and then he gets shot. You are right, he was an @$$, and with a dozen people all around him that were taunting police silently, with molotov roostertails in their hands, he was just the unlucky one to get the "one" shot that happened there. -- Geez! As far as the Occupy movement, the Oakland city is a total shame, protesters went more extreme as the city escalated their pressure. They want a military police city, that`s what they have.

I`m sorry but that was hilarious. He must have done something off camera to piss them off so they shot him, simple as. Not quite as special as the people in the UK I`ve seen run TOWARDS a riot police dog however. It did not end well for them!

The cops are doing it to violent protestors. It`s completely justified..

You don`t want to get hit? Stay out of the streets. You know God damn well what`s going on out there and if you choose to stand with them, you should be dealt with the same as them.

BBJellyFish-"So you`re telling me that cop was justified in shooting the man who was doing absolutely nothing wrong."\

1) it`s rubber bullets. Better then real bullets and (idealy) non-lethal. DIdn`t kill the guy, did it?

2) on what do you base your claim that he `was doing absolutely nothing wrong`? The (obvious biased) video that`s only showing you exactly what the person videotaping wanted you to see?

He knew he shouldn`t be approaching RIOT POLICE FFS!! You have no idea what he, or others out of frameshot, was doing to antagonize the RIOT POLICE FFS in order to get just a situation on tape. Thought process like "Hey man, I`ll hold the camera, and you stand behind me and wave your wang at the cops, or maybe flash a pistol, and when they shot YOU..er..`one of us`, we`ll post the video and it`ll make the pigs look bad, man. Don`t worry man, it`s only rubber bullets, man."

Later thought process: "OWWWOOWWOWOWOWOWOWO

As long as they do so in accordance to the law. `Protest` does not include breaking windows, trashing ATMs, raping girls, burning cars and forming a violent mob.

madest-"was shot for no reason. "

No, he was shot for a reason. The reason was he was a member of a violent mob moving in the direction of riot police

madest-"cannot order you to stop exercising your constitutional rights."

Again, violence, destruction, rape and assault are not constitutional rights.

As a person from a police family and a conservative I still don`t get why Oakland (and some other cities) think they can justify using this kind of force to disperse peaceful crowds. It seems they only become violent when they try to crackdown on protesters.

This video seems like an abuse of power. What justification was there? He wasn`t crossing a police line. He wasn`t throwing things. He didn`t even seem to be taunting the police.

However, just like it has been said before, what was happening on the video beforehand?

Every American has the constitutional right to protest. This lone man armed with just a camcorder was shot for no reason. There was no justification no matter what the police said. The police cannot order you to stop exercising your constitutional rights. Any American who is on the side of the police (M Archer you don`t count) is against their own rights which indeed what OWS is all about.

The Oakland police will more than likely end up under justice control like Louisiana. They are a crooked department run by thugs. The true jack-booted thugs republicans so fear.

There`s a video I haven`t posted because it seems many of you are getting burned out on OWS minutiae. But it exposes some of the awful things the OPD is up too. Their police officers have infiltrated OWS and cause much the mayhem the police are blaming on OWS. You haven`t heard the end of OWS in Oakland and I assure you, you wouldn`t expect that from your own police departments.

What`s the problem? The government should be the only body that`s allowed to use physical force; that`s the entire point of the government.

These people are destroying private and government property and blocking traffic; the government absolutely has the DUTY to remove them from the premises. If they don`t go peacefully when asked, the cops have no choice but to use force.

What exactly is the problem?

Buiad-"Unprovoked."

Let`s see: Angry mob, violence, destruction, vandalism, shouting at police, breaking the law and confronting officers with proven history of rape, assult and belligerence.

You seem to have an unreasonably high standard as to what constitutes provocation.

It would have been very simple to avoid getting hit with a rubber bullet. DON`T BE ANYWHERE NEAR WHERE ONE IS BEING FIRED!!!

@brocky86 - Ok first off, I hate partial videos, we have no idea what proceeded before this, Obviously something did, as to why people where shouting.

Secondly, the camera man was moving TO the people who where arguing...In addition, The police may have already had run in`s with the camera man for all we know, why was he asking "is this ok?"

The crowed he was a part of (maybe even himself) did something to attract the attention of the police (one warning of "you should not be here")

I`ll say it again, If you don`t want to be gased, shot at, or maced, DO NOT be anywhere near riot police, riot police are called for a reason, there is a HIGH percent chance that Sh*t will go down...So, yeah, I still blame him for getting hit, could have simply chose to leave, he didn`t, so there`s the summation of his choice.

So basically the story here is that a cop used perfectly legitimate crowd control measures to control a crowd. Bastards!!!

I`m no fan of the police but I do get some form of satisfaction from watching someone who is clearly a c-ock, acting like a c-ock, and then getting his comeuppence. Seriously, what kind of spastic goads someone who`s carrying a gun? If this was a member of the public violently reacting to someone that annoying you`d all be cheering him on.

Which sometimes entails crowd/riot control where some idiot(s) can get hit by:
-tear gas,
-rubber bullets,
-water cannons,
-bean bags,
-tasers

It also entails the possibility that someone is going to get hurt.

Would you rather he got hit with the rubber bullets? Or the steel kind?

How about personal responsibility or common sense? If I were there...well wait, I`m smarter then these people, hence I`m not...There`s the point, you see armed police officers, they tell you, don`t go here, so how much intelligence do you have to go where they just told you not to?

Side note...You see armed police officers, how smart to you have to be, to be TOLD not to be there?

If you saw a firing squad, would you stand in front of them?

Shot because he was filming. Some people defend the polices behavior. I guess everyone can`t love freedom. The paradox is, of course, that freedom of speech entitles you to be exactly that way, a freedom you oppose. Same thing with religious extremists who enter Europe, and say that the Saudi and Iranian regimes are good. But if they went to opposition of government in those very countries, they could end up in jail. It`s almost hypocracy. But it`s mostly irony.

Yeah, always a surprise when they do what they are supposed to do. When the give you an order, you listen. They say, don`t cross this line, you don`t.

What you DO NOT DO is walk up to them like a nine year old kid, point your finger right in front of thier face and say "I`m not touching you!" or the equivilent, like int his case.

People have the right to gather, but NOT to provoke!

(Cue 8 million, "F the police, they`re all abusive" comments despite the fact that only one of an entire line of cops made a mistake)
