They needed a Gallup poll for this?

You cant regulate a plant............whats to stop anyone just growing their own still even if it is legalized. It will probably cost too much if it is ever legalized because the gov. wants to make their tax dollars off it, and imagine the poo they would put in pre fabricated joints. They would be another type of cigarette more so then a marijuana cigarette. My views are just to decriminalize it.

It`s the most versatile plant on the planet. Its not going away. It costs too damn much to fight it and incarcerate users. Legalize it!

I`m getting so tired of this nonsense. Just do it already, legalize, regulate, tax, and relax. What angers me is that my bloody country is being coerced into maintaining it`s own ludicrous anti-marijuana laws because the U.S. government can`t pull it`s head out of it`s ass and and fix the problem.

vv Very true @Selous, but the Government wants the TAX MOOLAH so, just like booze and smokes, it`ll be `controled` and taxed, heavily.

"50% of 1005 Americans doesn`t really speak for the whole population.... 1005 is a pretty low poll size for something like this."

Actually it`s not. 1,000 is a typical sample size for most polls.

From the people I know, I`d say this is probably right. Even people who don`t like pot are tired of spending money on it. AND they`re tired of their kids and grand kids getting busted for it.

@tedgp: Interviewing 150 million people is not feasible. Gallop polls are usually quite accurate, and all polls have to take small samples and generalize it to represent a population, otherwise there would not be any polls. a 1,000 poll sample has a 3% margin of error in 95% confidence. If they had done 10,000 people margin of error would be 1%, but really is not necessary or economically viable in this instance. In other words, lighten up, it`s a poll.
so they polled a little over 1000 people and say thats the general consensus? Why the hell is this even on this site?
It`s not generally necessary to poll an entire population to achieve accurate results. What`s important is to understand the biases of the survey sample and how they might affect extrapolation to the population as a whole. This is why survey results are generally given with sampling error - as do these, in the description of the survey methods.
