@thelonius there is no holding penalty when bringing down a ball carrier, excluding the horse-collar (and probably the facemask too, not 100% on tackling rules). The holding penalty mostly applies to people blocking for the runner.

actually. Anything that isn`t your head or your horse collar you can grab, as long as your stopping a receiver (linemen are a different issue). So yeah. Arms, legs, thighs, hands, jersey, hair (don`t know why it`s allowed, but it is) you can grab. That move in the pic is perfectly legal.

Thats why some guys have elastics around their sleeves, so its harder to grab. Hair is your own choice. You don`t like it being grabbed, cut it off.

Your hair is not a part of your body?

why doesn`t he just tuck them under the jersey? he`d have a lumpy back, but at least this stuff wouldn`t happen

"I enjoy when guys pull me down by my hair. That means I have the ball!" It also means you got tackled unnecessarily, dumb drat!

@mil578 - Some players don`t cut their hair due to religious or cultural reasons. Honestly, I can`t imagine Polamalu without his hair, flying behind him like a cape. lol

To quote Polumalu, "I enjoy when guys pull me down by my hair. That means I have the ball!"

I remember when he got pulled down by his hair but then the tackler pulled him back up by the hair. The first was legal because it is part of the uniform, but the latter was not legal as the play was over.

It`s my understanding that, according to NFL rules, if your hair covers your uniform it becomes part of the uniform, meaning it`s just as grabbable as anywhere else. It makes sense; if you couldn`t grab someone`s long hair, every player would have hair covering their entire back to get an edge.

If you don`t want your hair grabbed, cut it.
