why are they going through so much trouble. maybe now she can see the church for what it really is. a club for special people and that`s all.

drop the religion or find a more tolerant church. it always amazes me that they will quote from the bible, yet, when it comes to stupid race issues - they never mention why they hate, nor do they ever bring up that convenient passage in the bible that supports the hate.

@ryanwi- So it`s a good thing to discriminate? To ser people apart? Thank god I`m not religious(See what I did there?).
I`m unsure why you think I misunderstand religious freedom as I was clear they could make that decision, just as I was clear that it is bad ethics. But then, I see little evidence of good ethics in practicing religion- the theories, yes- the practice, sadly no.

"@CaptKangaroo You totally misunderstand what religious freedom means. This story is actually a perfect example of why religious freedom is always a good thing. She has the religious freedom to go to a different church with different beliefs. In some countries she would be bound by their decision.
"

Denying entrance into a house of god because they perceive them as different "races" is not religious freedom. That is bigotry. These people seem to forget, "God created one race, people created racism".

By doing this, especially in a house of god, they are honestly damning themselves by expressing malice and discontent.

Another case where color should not even be in the story. People simply cannot see this as two people. Nope, its one black person and one white person. The whole notion is disgusting.

"Modern doesnt always mean better"

I do not think that being blind to race is "modern". As a matter of fact I think even dehumanizing someone by calling them a different race is rather barbaric.

"`Modern` doesn`t mean better."

Let me fix that for you:

`Modern` doesn`t always mean better, but it very often does.

@CrakrJak no Christian in their right mind wants to get into a debate on biblical laws that are no longer relevant. It`s a lost cause.

@Megrendel- All ideas have different aspects to them; Some good, some not so good and some bad. Few things- if any, are black and white, either or.
The concept of religious freedom is generally considered a good thing, but as illustrated in this particular story, not always. This is what I meant.

Wow.. This is from my "local" news station. I am not surprised though. Kentucky has a lot of racist communities. Pike Co.? You do realize this is also the originating county for the Hatfield and McCoy family feuds right?

Draculya: "church in general is neither compatible with modern enlightened ethics."

The Nazi`s thought they had "modern enlightened ethics" as well, based on social darwinism they believed they could breed and cull their way to making the perfect human race.

`Modern` doesn`t mean better.

patchgrabber-"your NAACP means that your racism problem must be very big"

Actually, the NAACP does nothing but make the racism problem worse, as they are the biggest group of race hustlers in the U.S..

chimmeychang-`You know what isn`t racists? Ignorance`

Hear, Hear! Ignorance is truly an equal-opportunity affliction.

@jtrebowski: I`d think twice about citing any poll by Public Policy Polling. They are biased (listed as a Democratic polling firm) and its polls are usually commissioned by the Dailykos and sponsered from the SEIU (not exactly bastions of impartiality or even truth). The PPP admits its sympathies lie with the left.
Hate to tell you, but racism is pretty much universal.
I never claimed the US was the only place in the world where racism exists. Racism in the US is just tolerated more than it is here. You can`t go on national television in Canada and spew racism without becoming a social pariah, but I`ve seen it numerous times on American television, and it`s decried by some, but ultimately ignored.
(you even have a council to try and fight racism in Canada [NARCC">, so it must be pretty bad.)
That makes no sense. By that logic, your NAACP means that your racism problem must be very big. Correlation implying causation.

It`s a Dominionist church...the same type of theology that Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann subscribe to.
Anyway...next time you come across a Conservative from the south, you might want to consider how the cons in Mississippi feel about interracial marriage

Conservatism is a disease.

CaptKangaroo-"It`s one of the downsides to religious freedom."

As opposed to what? There is no downside to religious freedom. You find idiots like this everywhere. They may form a church, they may form a coffee club at Starbucks. When they gather together it`s just easier to notice them.

Draculya-"church in general is neither compatible with modern enlightened ethics."

Sorry, there is no such thing as `modern enlightened ethics`. Every community at every point in history has a clique who THINK it is more `modern`, or more `enlightened`. The one thing they have in common is that they were all wrong, and usually all idiots.

Many people consider themselves `enlightened` (majority of which lean left). This is just a way to feel superior without being able to debate rationally, as they can always `win` an argument by saying "YOU just don`t understand like WE do because WE`RE enlightened." It`s a delusion.

@collegebound- Perhaps the big, big word `deplore`, confused you. If you don`t know how to look up words you don`t underatand in a dictionary, I`ll help you out.
So; Deplore:verb-find unacceptable,frown on,disapprove of,take a dim view of,take exception to,detest,despise,condemn,denounce.
Now look up moron, I`m certain that you`re familiar with that state of mind.
I pity the college that gets stuck with you.

This isn`t just one nut-case making f-ed up decisions behind some desk. This is a large group of nut-cases that VOTED not to allow a certain other group of people in THEIR church. Let the racists have their own jesus box so they stay out of all the non-racist jesus boxes.

I love how Christians always say that the church is good and how we can`t tar their church with the same brush as other radical churches, until it turns out to be their own church, and then they blame individuals and/or switch churches.

Just admit it, the church in general is neither compatible with modern enlightened ethics, nor the inclusive love taught in the bible. It`s just the tax-exempt organisation of outdated bigotry.

Yes, because when CaptKangaroo said, "While I deplore the church`s stance," that TOTALLY meant he supports racism.

>.< He`s not supporting the church`s stance, and he doesn`t have to personally tolerate it. However, the church DOES have its rights.

I agree with CaptKangaroo on this one.

The church has a right to decide who will and will not worship there. Do I agree with them. Hell no. But the church has its rights, and unfortunately this is one of them.

""they plan to ask the church to change their decision".

Great...so, it`s better to stay with a racist church that grits their teeth and bites their tongue rather than find a church that never considered skin color to be a factor in the first place?
Ask any real American why they`re a Progressive...you might get some insight."

"Did you miss the part where she said they were going to find a new church if the answer was still no? I can`t blame the parents, really. They`ve been in this church for decades. Instead of changing churches, they`d rather see their church change.
